Myanmar Panda Hotel
Ranked #62 of 159 Hotels in Yangon (Rangoon)

We had a hard time trying to find accommodation at a reasonable price in Yangon & chose the Panda purely from Trip Advisor comments. This hotel is way above our normal budget but you soon learn that Myanamar accommodation costs are higher than those of its neighbouring countries & we had a very bad experience in Bagan staying at a cheap Guest House. The room was a good size & very clean. We had a view of the Shwedagon Pagoda & the internet worked well in our room. There was a safe, TV, fridge & coffee making facilities. The location was great, we could go anywhere in a taxi for K2000 & the breakfast was adequate.

Very convenient and clean hotel, excellent staff that has been extremely helpful with flight reservations and other minor arrangements. This kind of help is specially useful in a country like Myanmar where everything is a little bit more complicated than abroad.
Breakfast ok, in-room internet is below acceptable standards but in lobby is ok considering that internet speed is a problem all around the country. Bathroom is ok, quietness also.
Well located.

Checked into the Panda after two nights at the Thamada. Although these hotels are both about two stars, the Panda is much nicer. The front desk staff and young men who held the doors all went out of their way for you. The rooms are dated, but spotless clean. Flat screen t.v., room safe, fridge. There was even a staff member on duty on the floor 24/7. If you needed anything, all you had to do was ask.
Bed linens and towels were of decent quality and clean.
The location is on the edge of a neighborhood. You will probably be hiring a taxi for the day (The best way to see the sights and get around. Most taxis don't run their A/C's here, so make sure that running the A/C is part of the deal), so don't let the location bother you. There is a Thai restaurant about a block away that was very good. There are also numerous street stalls in the area.
The breakfast buffet leaned more towards Asian fare, but there was enough there to get you through the morning. Not the greatest, but I''ve had much worse.
Hotel rooms are outrageously priced here. This hotel is a good cost effective option. I felt safe and the room was comfortable. I got the room for $80/night at Agoda. Walk-ins were being quoted $160/night when I was there. There seemed to be a lot of travellers going from hotel to hotel looking for rooms every morning, so it would be a good idea to have reservations before coming here.
The Panda is a decent two star with a great staff. You will not mistake this place for a Four Seasons hotel, but you should get a good nights sleep for a fair price.

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side of the hotel (the back side) tend to warm up in the afternoon as they face ri...

A great place to crash in Yangon. Clean and quiet rooms with friendly staff. Although the cleaning ladies get a bit pushy when you are leaving, it is generally very relaxed. Avoid the Chinese food on the dining room menu unless you really like corn starch and orange retro sweet and sour sauce!

We had booked online, hotels are getting very busy in Yangon, and we were paying double what Lonely Planet had quoted, but we did not want to go without accommodations. The hotel is just great, dated yes....60's, but very clean. We had a nice big room, A/C that worked, a safe, and a wonderful shower with lots of hot water. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and there is a breakfast included in the price, and it was buffet style, with great coffee.
Our only complaint was they had numerous weddings booked in the Banquet Floors 12/13, and we were on 11, I am assuming they wanted to fumigate these floors, but we were not forewarned. We were in our room about 9 PM when this obnoxious smell seeped in, we opened the door and the hall was filled with what looked like smoke. We made our way to the lobby, to find the staff with napkins to their noses, they assured us everything would be fine, all they would say is "fumigating, go back in 10 minutes" and they were right.
The hotel is about 10 minutes from downtown by taxi, and they can be K1500-3000, depending on the time do day, or driver. However it is an easy 10 minute walk to two air conditioned shopping centers, and another few minutes from them you are at the National Mueseum, worth the $5.00 US.
Also a couple of nice little restaurants almost next door, on the next street. New Doreen and YKKO, both clean, good food, and good service.

Not a very inspiring hotel, but for one night it is fine. If you get
the right room. Ask for the ones ending in 01 or some of the even numbered ones, so you can have a beautiful view of the Schwedagon Pagoda. I had room
703 which was a basic room with a view over trees to other buildings.
It had a queen size bed, flat screen TV with cable channels (including CNN). There was
no hot water in the shower in the evening, but good hot water early in
the morning. Breakfast buffet was good and there was free internet
with three computers in the lobby.

If you need a moderate place to stay for one night in central Yangon,
this is an OK choice. But if you need a night before leaving for the
airport a better choice would be the Myanmar Life hotel 10 minutes
from the international airport. It is newer and well kept.

This was a hotel on a group tour and it was OK, but I would not stay here again

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view to the Schwedagon Pagoda

There really isn't too much wrong with this hotel. The staff are excellent and the facilities are good. Unfortunately, what sticks in the mind is the worn room and very stained toilet seat. Hopefully, with the tourist dollar now flowing freely into Myanmar, a programme of refurbishment will be on the cards.
