“Good room and stay”
Reviewed 25 February 2014

I stayed at this hotel for two nights on my own and then two nights as part of a tour. The staff at check-in was pleasant and efficient. The room I had (707) was quite large with nice wood floors in the main room and tile in the bathroom. This room was on the backside of the hotel and was quiet. There was a wardrobe, a fridge, a desk and chair, two beds (one queen size and one twin size), and a small table with two chairs. The beds were comfortable but the pillows were too large and too hard (I asked for a softer one, but they brought one just as hard). The air conditioning worked well and was quiet. There was a hot pot for making tea and two large bottles of complimentary water. There was a safe for valuables (not working when I got there but they promptly came up and put in new batteries). There was a wall-mounted flat-screen TV with BBC and CNN. There was good free wifi available in the room. The bathroom had a shower/tub combination and adequate shelf space around the sink. Plenty of hot water at the shower; only cold water available at the sink, though. Breakfast was good, with the option of cooked-to-order eggs plus a variety of other food. Compared to hotels in the US, I would consider this hotel overpriced, but the shortage of decent hotels in Yangon has driven prices up.
Restaurants: I ate at both the New Doreen and the YKKO down Watun Street near the corner of Bogyoke Aung San. Both were good. Also ate at the restaurant above the YKKO called the Relax (I think it may actually be part of the YKKO). It was good, too, and more high class and quieter.
Shopping: Go down Min Ye Kyaw Zwar to the T intersection with Pyay Rd. and turn left. Go approximately 500 m and you will find a department store on the west side of the street. Across the street is another department store that has a supermarket (direct entry to the supermarket is around to the left). There is also a small bakery a block down Min Ye Kyaw Zwar street.

Fairly typical of Burmese hotels - pretty bog standard business/tourist hotel. Rooms are clean and functional, staff are helpful (except breakfast staff who were pretty poor), wifi available, had a good breakfast box when we had an early start one day. Not a huge amount in the local area but not too far from the Shwedagon pagoda and other sites.

We stayed at both ends of our tour of Burma, and enjoyed the place. Friendly, helpful staff, adequate breakfasts with choice of Asian and basic western. Go for the cooked eggs to order. Nice fruit, toast. There are doubles and twin rooms, ask to be changed if you're not happy with your allocation. Upper floors are closer to the wedding receptions, which can be noisy. Pillows hard, towels small, but the shower worked very well. Wifi was also the best we had in Burma, though that may be a function of Yangon, rather than necessarily the hotel. Good location and can walk to the Padonmar restaurant and Governor's residence as well as the National Museum and Scott's market. Taxis also freely available.

Nice Hotel; very old design; not much maintenance- thus expensive. Hotel restaurant was okay- but not much choice.Good breakfast spread with local cuisine plus bread- juice and eggs of choice. Wi-fi is good- although breaks intermittently. Hotel is in Hospital district- with several hospitals surrounding it- thus public transport is plenty. TV channels are limited. although it's in excellent location and i could see the golden pagoda top dome- right from my hotel room on 6th floor at far angle.Nearby shopping mall can help for any shopping needs. Hotel staff at reception speaks good English.

We stayed here twice during a tour of Myanmar. The rooms are clean and comfortable if a little dated. The hotel was a good place to explore the city from and staff are happy to help with any queries. The internet was free and generally ok. Breakfast was sufficient for our needs with fresh fruit, toast and breads and Burmese style food available too. The pillows were a little too hard for us and affected our sleep a bit.

Stayed here a few times before/during/after a tour of Myanmar.

Nice, clean, functional rooms. Decent breakfast, maybe avoid the cold fried eggs!

First stay - arrived at 07:00, my room was ready, excellent. Last stay, couple of things not working in the room, they were fixed by the time I got back later that afternoon, Sometimes things like this happen, their response was excellent.

Location good, a $2-3 taxi ride from most locations if you didn't fancy a walk. Couple of decent restaurants round the corner if you didn't want to dine in the hotel.

Staff always friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Rooms on upper floors seem to be nicer, but you may have to wait longer for the lift.

My wife and I stayed here for a week. First, the downside: this is an older hotel in a developing country. Don't expect the Hyatt or even Courtyard. The paint will have a few cracks. The upside: the rooms are very clean. The flooring is parquet tile, but it sparkled. There is a flat screen TV which we never watched (though it did work, and picked up channels like CNN). There was a refrigerator and tea kettle (with espresso and tea mix which they left everyday). Complimentary bottled water (2 large bottles) was left daily. The air conditioning worked GREAT, especially important in Yangon.

We had breakfast at the hotel each day. It was mostly Asian, with rice and noodles. Dishes rotated each day. Usually there was fish, pork, or chicken. There were fried eggs (sunny side up and cold), but a sign advertised that they would cook your eggs to order if you wished. Pastries were available along with fruit. We ate a number of dinners in the restaurant, which were very good (some of the best fried rice I've ever had). Prices ranged between $16 and $22 for two people including beer.

The main thing we enjoyed were the people. Service was excellent, from the front desk to the housekeepers. Everyone had a smile. My wife purchased a longyi but did not realize that it needed to be sewn up. We asked at the front desk if this was something we could pay their laundry service to do. The lady said she would be glad to take it home and work on it free of charge. (Of course, we gave her a gift in appreciation for her good deed.)

We were very happy we made the choice to stay at the Panda.
