“Totally overpriced Hostel”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

We arrived very late in Yangon and since the first Hostels we asked have been already full we decided to stay here despite the high price.
The rooms are tiny, the bathrooms not the cleanest, the owner is really unfriendly, Wifi is just ok, the breakfast was really good though (huge variety). All together this would be an ok guesthouse...but not for this price. We ended up paying 28 USD for a double room (highest price we paid in Myanmar and worst room we had in Myanmar) and that was not worth it at all.
Furthermore the counter in the front is charging a high price for bus tickets so just go anywhere else to book them.

At first we were shocket as we saw our room. No windows, just a lowsy fan standing somewhere in our room in the 7th floor. But we had a really nice stay at white house hotel. We slept really good and I think it is common for rooms in yangon to have no window.
They had a terrace on the rooftop (I think it is the 9th floor) with many plants and flowers. It was very relaxing to sit there.
The staff was very nice and helpful and the breakfast at the rooftop was amazing.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a own bathroom.

The staff are super-friendly and helpful; the wifi is reliable; the location is great; and the breakfast really is super, but the tiny, tiny rooms are very overpriced even by Yangon standards, and if there was a fire, it would be an absolute disaster. The curfew also sucks.

It would be worth staying here for a night and then changing to one of the many other cheaper guesthouses that you can find within a short walk. Make sure you reconfirm your room by email 24 hours in advance.

Breakfast really is great though; I may have mentioned that already. And that can be a deal-breaker for some people.

We stayed at white house hotel for 3 nights. and changed to another (cheaper one) for our last night. Actually its a ok place, because the location in the middle of the indian quarter is really great - but there are also other (cheaper) guesthouses/hostels around, near by. the breakfast on the roof terrace is definitely the best thing about this place. for sure. the breakfast is big and delicious. and the view from from the rooftop is nice. but this is basically all you can say positive about it. sure, they have wifi (but mostly all places in Yangon have wifi those days). our room was on the top floor. the beds were bad and the bathroom as well. I´m not sure what i would write or say about this place if it was 20bucks, but we paid 45,-$ for the room and this was way overpriced for what it is! the problem I see, or realized, in Yangon (and other places) is that most of the places are overpriced since Myanmar becomes more and more popular. so compared to other southeast asian countries its quite hard to find a good value-for-money ratio.
To write a conclusion: stay at another, cheaper place because white house is basically a 20$ guesthouse.

Room Tip: there are two rooms on the rooftop - they are really cool!

Let me start by saying that finally we did NOT stay in this guesthouse.
the story enrolled like this: we made a couple of days before our return to Yangon a reservation (we called) and booked a doubleroom for 27 Dollars with breakfast. The day we arrived the (very unfriendly) man at the desk could not find our reservation. After staring at his agenda for like 10 minutes he found out that he misunderstood my friend who was making a reservation for the twentyfirst. He booked us for the twentythird. So far so good. we tried to solve the situation diplomatically by saying it was neither our nor his fault and asked if they still had a free room. To find out if there was a free room he stared again for 10 minutes on his sheets and then gave us the keys to check out two free rooms (for which he wanted over 30 dollars). we had a look - the rooms were terrible! you feel like in a mental hospital! and it smelled everywhere from cat pee. (oh, they even offer condoms in the rooms). we also saw the kitchen where dozens of cats reside. Consequently, neither breakfast nor staying in one of these kinky disgusting rooms seemed appealing and we left. We found a beautiful guesthouse a couple of blocs away: okinawa guesthouse.
In a nutshell: White house hotel is not a welcoming place. staff is unfriendly and stubborn, rooms and kitchen do not seem very clean.

Coming from a backpackers point of view this hotel was average.

yes the rooms were grubby, but if you are planning on not spending too much money on accommodation in Myanmar then this is how the majority of the rooms are. I think we paid $27 for a room with no window for 2 people

One of the guys who worked there was very friendly, as most of the Burmese are, he helped us book our bus to bagan and even sorted our taxi for us.

the breakfast was the best I had in Myanmar, all of which vegetarian.

the internet only works at reception but expect this for the majority of Myanmar.

The location is perfect, right in the centre of Yangon.

Over all I had a nice 2 night stay.

At 22 $ for a double room with shared bathroom, you can find much better in Yangon. Room apparently clean but don't look behind the beds or below. Sheets had holes. Overall, the guesthouse need to be refurbished. Large breakfast buffet. Booked bus ticket to kinpun (golden rock) asking for aircon and he confirmed but no aircon in the bus.
