I normally stay at Traders Hotel, but on this Jan 2012 trip stayed at both Parkroyal and East Hotel. On arrival at the airport, most taxi drivers already know of the East Hotel, and if they don't just tell them it is opposite Traders. It appears they are trying to get US$8 for a taxi trip from the airport to the hotel, but the "normal" price is still $7. The best exchange rate we could get this trip was 860 Kyats/US$1. Anyway, about the Hotel! The location is great, within walking distance of Sule Pagoda and Scott Market. I'd suggest you get a taxi to the Shwedagon, tho ($2-3). The ground floor comprises reception and dining area, and is all modern and quite efficient. The folk at Reception are helpful and accommodating (sic). The lift is quite tiny, so tour groups may need several trips. I seem to recall about 9 floors. We stayed on the 3rd floor. The rooms are fairly small, but modern and comfortable, with tea-making facilities, shower (no bath), and security-card access. The bathroom/toilet area is separated from the sleeping area by partitioning and blinds, but is otherwise open to the rest of the room, so be sure to share the room with someone close and/or liberal-minded. Good aircon, large-screen TV, free WIFI (code on room key), and comfy beds make the place hospitable. Only 2 people per room tho, and if you are a family with children, you'll need another room. We had sleeping bags for the kids but no extra beds, and the floors are tiled, so not a goer. Road noise was negligible, and we all slept well. Breakfast was included in the room tariff, and was OK, but not spectacular (ABF: eggs, bacon, sausages, toast, cereal (muesli swimming in an ocean of warm milk), coffee/tea, juice, 3 fresh fruit). Burmese and Chinese set breakfasts also available. The staff were helpful, and the few inherent language problems (they speak limited English) were overcome easily. The staff will organize a taxi to the airport on departure (another $7). Tipping is optional, but appreciated. The design of the rooms (especially the bathroom) suggests they will show wear and tear quickly, so suggest you stay there sooner than later.

Room Tip: Would suggest a high floor, but we stayed on the 3rd floor and it was fine. The lift is slow and tin...

A cheap hotel in the heart of yangon, Just opposite the traders hotel. We got 2 double rooms for a rate of $50 each. Its a good deal comparatively. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. Hotel has one restaurant and it serves a limited selection of quality A la Carte food. The toilet and shower place in the rooms are very awkward. If you are travelling with family then its not a big issue else privacy has its limits. Apart from the small problem of toilet and shower place, The facilities provided by the hotel is very good for the rate payed. Free wifi is provided by the hotel for the guests.

I liked the TV, and functional airconditioning of the rooms. The rooms are quite small, and as others have said, toilet is straight ahead of the room entrance door. And i think the lack of a door was a poor design choice. The shower, it took 5 minutes for the hot water to arrive, but by then the shower area was almost over flowing. And as the shower unit is stuck in the corner of your bedroom, you dont want any water leaks... Another rather poor design choice.

Paid 55 usd per night, breakfast was ok, WiFi was intermittent. Staff were a happy bunch.

Would return if other choices were fully booked.

Although I did not LOVE Myanmar, I did LOVE this hotel. The location was excellent & the staff were always pleasant and helpful. The rooms are a nice size (could have more counter space). The bathroom is a small but okay for 1 person at a time. The rooms are very clean and TV had great channels. The breakfast is very nice & cafe downstairs is open 24 hours. The cafe staff was also friendly and attentive.

Exotic Hotel in heart of Yangon City. Staff were so nice, the Myanmarese innocence & respectfulness. Incidentally, my wife's birth day fell on the second day, of our check in. These restaurant guys surprised us, on the breakfast table, by bringing birthday cake. My wife was taken back, and she gave me such a cosy look...Well, the credit goes to HOTEL. Of course, with all brightness, there is a dot of darkness too. The LOO. It was positioned in such a place, where anyone who enters the room will capture the scene with embarrassment. Because, THERE WAS NO DOOR for the Loo. And they have hanged Plastic Balls as curtain , which make idiotic sound , whenever you part it to enter the wash & loo area. In the name of aesthetic and design, these guys had overdone it. Kindly tell the management to look into.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms in the backside of the hotel, the SUN is too penetrative.

Located in the centre of Yangon, opposite the Trader Hotel.
walking distance to Sule pagoda.,City Hall,Scott Market and Railway Station..
The Hotel is new, staffs are friendly and helpful.
Local call is 200 kyat per call but the staff didnt take from us because we didnt have small notes. The best things is there has a free mineral water on every floor and free to take as many as you like,
The only things is the toilet in the room doesnt have a door or even the curtains.
feel no privacy.
We ordered a local curry chicken rice ,taste good but waited for more than one and a half hours just for a dish.

This is a new hotel, opened about 10 months ago in a very central location in Yangon, within easy walking distance of Sule Pagoda.

As it's new, not all taxi drivers know it, but telling them it's opposite Traders hotel always worked.

Room facilities are good (aircon, TV, Shower) and it's very clean. Staff were helpful and the breakfast good.

The TV has a range of Thai and English channels.

The only downside that may be slightly off-putting to some is the in-room bathroom suite is not fully enclosed, and is separated from the main room by a thick curtain.

I would certainly stay here again.
