The best reference to this Hotel it's the location, that couldn't be better.
It has all the amenities you may need, although it is not a luxury or "boutique" hotel, not by far, but it's Yangon and you must adapt yourself to it's reality, so I believe the the cost-benefit balance it's quite positive.
It is spotless clean and with very attentive staff as is standard in Myanmar.
You have restaurants an all the shops at walking distance and the taxis are really inexpensive if you're too tired to walk.

for people in budget, it is a good catch.

i don't understand how the prices have gone double and the service and amenities the same.

i hated the fact that there are no lights. i can't see a thing. i had to use the reading lights to see my luggage. there were also holes on the floor. me and my friend can only wonder why.

but there's free water. i think water is cheap in myanmar.

i've read that the high tourist influx caused the prices to reach an all time high. bangkok hotels are really value for money. yangon has a long way to go before prices become competitive again. for the money i paid USD 90- i could probably stayed two days in a good hotel in bangkok.

A.S.

Room Tip: free water. bring wet ones in myanmar. there's gonna be a lot of barefoot walking. wear rubber sandals. bring plastic so you don't have to deposit your shoes and be asked to make a "donation" in pagodas.

We stayed at the East for two separate nights - when we first arrived in Myanmar and when we returned to Yangon. After our first stay, we were catching the overnight sleeper train to Mandalay so the proximity to Yangon rail station was part of the reason we chose the East. The second stay enabled us to get to our birthday treat (a night at The Strand) early in the day. The location is excellent, close to the Sule Pagoda, independence monument and two massive markets. If you want to see middle class shopping, there's also the Ruby Department Store nearby.

We quite liked the quirky shower cubicle but the long time to get hot water was a concern as was the absence of hot water at the basin. There was a good selection for breakfast although some of the dishes could have been warmer. The freshly made omelettes were excellent. While the restaurant is very good, there is an even better restaurant nearby, on the 20th floor of the Sakura Tower, giving superb views of the Shwedagon and Sule Pagodas.

Hotels in Yangon are expensive by Asian standards but we thought that East was good value for the city at $100. Because we were doing a loop around Myanmar, we left a bag at the East and they were happy to keep it for us and had it available for us when we returned.

Room Tip: We were pleasantly surprised by the lack of traffic noise despite facing out over the main road.

I didn't stay in this hotel since it was fully booked but i end up eating and hanging out at 'Amber Cafe' everyday. It was very clean with great ambiance. I liked their food too. If you are looking to take it easy, read, write or browse the internet i would highly recommend this place.

This hotel is really in the center of Rangoon. But except this point, it does not have any quality.
The room is so simple, so small, no door for the toilet. The water does not go down very well in the bathroom neither. When you finish your shower, flood...
