It was easy to find the hotel because its facade stands out in the area. Also it's right across Trader's Hotel (Sule Shangrila). We got a double room with an extra bed and still have enough space to move around. The shower and toilet is more or less incorporated in the room with only a swing door yo separate it from the actual bedspace. Breakfast has good options and the staff were really helpful.

When Myanmar's market and economy open since 2010, hotel accommodation rose to astronomical heights. Before the release of Daw Aung San Su Kyi, 3 to 5 star hotel rates were priced a fraction of what it is today. If you can find hotel accommodation under USD $ 100/- these days, then you can consider yourself fortunate. Don't fall the spider's web of Yangon's so called hotels, that over price you and give you the basics that do not satisfy your logic or expectations. One very good boutique hotel in the city center is East Hotel at Sule Pagoda Road. Don't be mistaken for Eastern Hotel. East Hotel maybe 'pricey' for boutique hotels' rates, but it will definitely be considered value for money in this country that has newly opened up its economy and reforms with the sudden 1000s of tourists flocking in the whole year round. Look out for reviews before you commit your accommodation needs, to avoid the culture shock of some ghetto motels that charge you an arm and a leg for the basic of basics.

Room Tip: Go for the higher floors and behind the hotel to avoid the traffic jams in front of the hotel from 8am to 8pm.

Stayed here for one night and two days with my boyfriend. It was exactly what we needed - clean, nice rooms, good breakfasts and an excellent central location where you can walk to most of the sites.

Food in the hotel was fine, breakfast was really good. Really lovely, clean dining area with great air conditioning and lovely staff. Comfy bed, really good shower and really clean bedrooms. Some good TV channels too with British news, films etc. You also get unlimited cold bottled water in the lobby fridges which was handy.

We didnt leave the hotel until 11pm at night, even though we checked out at 1pm we were allowed to keep our bags in the hotel all evening which was very handy.

Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a nice, clean hotel with lovely rooms in a good location.

Our 3 nights stay was at East Hotel, Sule Pagoda Road, Yangon. Very strategically located and close walking access to Scott Market, Little India, Chinatown, City Hall, Sule Pagoda, Central Railway Station and much more.
We were comfortably accommodated and well fed every morning we woke up. Simple yet heavy myanmar breakfast.

Thanks for the great stay and friendly hospitality!

If you don't have money to burn at The Governor's Residence, East hotel is a good average hotel in a fantastic central location. It is walking distance to several sights (Sule pagoda, the gardens / Strand hotel/colonial area, market, Chinatown etc) and there are always taxi's outside (hotel will also get them for you and tell you a fair price to pay). Shops, restaurants, money exchanges are also right outside.

We stayed in a Retro Concept Deluxe room (2 different rooms) which are a good size. Rooms are quite clean - look a little worn but not dirty. My main complaint is that in our first room (2nd floor in the building next door to reception) the room was infested with mosquito's, and no spray was provided to kill them. Take coils to burn with you! Air con is noisy but efficient. Hot water was always available, although on the 2nd floor water pressure was great and on the 7th floor it was a bit rubbish! The rooms had a safe, slippers, dressing gowns, basic toiletries etc. Unlimited drinking water is available in a fridge on each floor (no fridge in the room).

The breakfast was very average, and the room/lobby was also full of mosquito's. The buffet food looked like it had been out a while, and the fruit juice was artificial and very sweet. There is also a menu which you can order cooked items from e.g. eggs, and on our first morning the service was very good and they told us about this. But on the second visit the staff were very slow, never told us about this and so we would have missed the chance to order anything if we hadn't already known about it.

Reception staff are helpful and made restaurant reservations for us, had free photocopied maps. But were not so helpful when it came to check out late - for some reason 1pm was fine but 2pm wasn't, even though they admitted the hotel wasn't full. I wouldn't have minded except that they had nowhere else to take a shower and freshen up prior to going to the airport.

Would definitely stay there again, but don't expect luxury. And yes it's very overpriced for quality compared to the rest of SE Asia, but it's a good price for Yangon.
