“Great room for the special, but hotel has a long way to go”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

We booked using the Agoda special for $36/night and at that rate it was a great value. Rooms were spacious, AC was strong and bathrooms were nice and clean. And there's HBO and another good movie channel on the flat screen :) Bed also very comfortable. Wifi was useable but slow from room. We were in room #801 and experienced no nightclub noise, but there was construction noise in the daytime and early evening.

Lobby and rest of the hotel outside the room feel like a construction zone/local hostel. Dust covered shirtless men in longhis pass you in the elevator and hallways on a regular basis and there seems to be 2 inches of dust on every surface. Again, fine given the price and quality of the room but hotel has a long way to go before they can charge full price.

Breakfast was so-so, environment is not very pleasant (low ceiling, no window back hallway room w/ flourescent light). Buffet options include fried rice, fried egg, noodles, and toast/jam, tea/coffee.

Restaurant "New Doreen" is right next door and decent. I recommend the gyoza, tempura or cashew chicken.

Front desk was gruff but got us what we needed including breakfast to go for an early flight (bananas, sweet bread and watermelon).

Room Tip: Room #801 was comfortable, wifi worked albeit slow and nice clean bathroom. No nightclub noise and c...

Booked three standard rooms for two nights at a discounted price at Agoda. Requested lower floor due to bad reviews we read about disturbing noise from karaoke lounge on the 11th floor. Rooms on 8th floor and below should be fine. Our rooms and attached bathrooms at 5th floor are spacious and clean. Good free wifi reception at lobby and restaurant, weak but usable in our rooms. Hotel was located about 15-20 mins walk to downtown Yangon where street food and restaurants are plenty. Good buffet breakfast. The negative points during our stay are only one of the two lifts is working and it is slooooow plus refurbishment works on all rooms at lower floor. Recommended hotel upon completion of refurbishment.

We stayed at the MGM for the entire time we were in Yangon - 5 nights. The hotel's staff is incredibly friendly. Anytime there was an issue, they took care of it immediately. My partner asked for extra towels when he was downstairs and by the time he made it up, we already got them. They always remember to give you our daily free water bottle for Yangon's heat.

The rooms are decent and clean. Every floor is different, so the hotel might be a hit or miss. Some are undergoing renovations. The 8th floor was great. Air conditioning worked perfectly.

Breakfast was nice. There are some Burmese choices of rice, noodles, and vegetables. They also have eggs over easy made in mass on the buffet table, toast, rice porridge (stay away), coffee, and juice.

I think this a good value for Yangon and the location was perfect for us.

Room Tip: 8th floor rooms are definitely worth the price. Location was great!

The place is perfectly located at the center of downtown Yangon. But its maintenance is not that good. There are some floors that are newly painted, but overall it needs renovation. The ground floor reception shares the door to a seafood restaurant which makes the fishy smell evident when you come near the reception table.
The staff are helpful are helpful.

Based on my experience of many hotels in Myanmar and especially Yangon, i will quality this hotel not bad for the budget.
Old rooms without any efforts on the decoration but main utilities renovated which provide you good hot shower, air condition and flat screen TV.
Main issue is the karaoke inside the hotel which is really noisy even i was on the 9th floor.
But if you are looking for a basic accommodation and avoid spending too much while you are in Yangon for few nights, it is acceptable

We stayed on the 8th floor and had a nicely renovated room. Don't let the outside scare you. This is a decent hotel and 3 stars based on coming from the u.s. They have complimentary hot breakfast daily. There is a nice restaurant outside the hotel to your left. Also, there is a message place next to the hotel to the left. The value can't be beat for th price. There was one bad thing. We had a mouse that can in our room during the night one night.

Booking way in advance get me very good rate. Room was big, clean (on the 9th floor with window) but you need earplugs as karokie on the last floor will keep you awake late into night. Good breakfast buffet but better be early - not much selection later. Everybody was very friendly and helpful. It is not in the center of Yangon but you can walk to main attractions. The restaurants near were OK.
