Inya Lake Hotel, Yangon
Ranked #29 of 161 Hotels in Yangon (Rangoon)

It's a soviet-built 70s concrete block, relieved by lots of teak inside. Anyone who has been to Eastern Europe will recognise this type of hotel built to accommodate loyal party members and host conferences.
It's now rather shabby now but rather fun staying in a place which was built to serve a very different purpose years ago.
Nothing wrong with the hotel, but nothing special other than its beautiful location on a lake quite far from the city centre.

It's a cab ride away from central Rangoon and the main sights but nearer the airport and a good place to retreat to with western style facilities. The rooms are clean and comfortable. It has huge gardens backing onto the Lake - where Aung San Sui Kyi lives on the opposite side - and there is a big swimming pool with plenty of sun loungers.
The restaurant here is very good if you don't want to walk down the lane to nearby ones.

My boyfriend and I just got back from our 12 day tour of Myanmar, and the Inya Lake Hotel was the first place we stayed - and ranks towards the bottom of the five different hotels we stayed at throughout the country. Our room itself was pretty nice and spacious (we ended up with a Junior Suite due to some confusion with our tour company), and the shower had great water pressure! The hotel gives off the air of being from a different age - i.e. 50 years ago. The staff was very friendly and helpful, but the elevator was ancient, the HUGE dining room felt awkward, and the outside of the building was less than attractive.

The location is about a 30 minute drive from downtown Yangon (depending on traffic), so we ate dinner at the hotel. The food was pretty good albeit pricey (the standard for hotel food in Myanmar).

All in all, it wasn't a bad experience. However, I would definitely opt to stay at the much more modern Trader's Hotel (where we stayed our last night) if you're gonna spend this kind of money!

Room Tip: The Junior Suite was spacious and had a great shower!

Room 527. Room size was large, with AC, safe, TV with many channels (BBC, sports, fox movies, NatGeo, TLC, movieis). Bathroom was modern with good pressure on shower, hot water and various free toiletries. Outstanding breakfast with huge choices of Western and Asian, they even had Korean kimchi. Our tour group was very happy with this hotel. Only issue is that rather far from anything -guide recommended we eat dinner in hotel as few street lights to see where you are going and places to eat are rather far. I never had time to use pool or other things.

The restaurant was excellent and the staff very kind and gracious.
They were very attentive and friendly-felt very much "at home" at this hotel.
Good location with transportation at hotel on regular basis.

Back in the day this was THE hotel but it has seen better days. It's a little tired to say the least and the rooms are drab and so are the common areas...lots of wasted space. We had a balcony with no furniture which was good because with the exception of seeing a little of the lake all we saw was trash below. We ate in the dinning room which was drab and served awful food. I suspect in a few years more higher end hotels will be popping up in Myanmar.

Stayed for 4 nights at our recent visit to Yangon, because of the SE Asian games going on there, we could not get a better room in the hotel, for a lake-view room would have been much nicer.

Anyway the room has AC, very clean and comfortable. The dining room serves great buffet breakfast, sometimes also buffet lunch & dinner, with very nice variety and I really enjoyed the local dishes.

The hotel also has very nice shops, a great salon and reflexology foot spa for very reasonable prices and great service.

If you like vintage building, big outdoor grounds and a natural lake environment, away from the busy downtown area, then this is the hotel for you.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake-view room for the spectacular sunsets.
