“Colonial elegance”
Reviewed 22 May 2014 via mobile

The Strand transports you back in time to colonial Burma. It oozes charm and character, from the lobby, the bar and the restaurants, to the rooms themselves. The hotel staff are courteous, and nothing is too much trouble for the dedicated room butlers.
We had dinner once at one of the restaurants, and I can highly recommend the tea-leaf salad. Among the bathroom products they also offer local thanaka - a nice touch. The wifi signal was good, excellent for getting in touch with people at home especially when you keep in mind that your mobile won't work anywhere in Myanmar. I even used skype, and the connection was fine.
If you're going to Yangon, might as well stay in the city's most iconic hotel!

Once voted the best hotel to the east of Suez, this old colonial hotel is absolutely beautiful and charming. We stayed here for 1 night at the end of our travels around Myanmar and it was truly wonderful. The bar is also a great place to come in for Western cocktails or a gin and tonic even if you aren't staying at the hotel and was bustling with ex-pats in the evening. Although it doesn't have the burmese charm of the other local guesthouses we stayed it, it was reminder of a by-gone era and a real treat.

I came here for 3 nights with my Grandma in 2013! The staff were absolutely amazing and kind to us... Especially as my grandma is 85 and has some difficulty walking. They went out of our way to make sure we were comfortable and looked after! She stayed in the strand suite and I stayed downstairs in another suite! The rooms were so charming and luxurious- my grandmas was the size of a large apartment! The butlers were always smiling and willing to help and breakfast was yummy! I liked the a la carte style of breakfast rather than the normal buffet you see elsewhere. The hotel itself was gorgeous- so nice to stay somewhere that has old charm rather than ultra modern these days... Love loved it.. Would stay again in a heartbeat! The welcome gift of champagne and fruit was lovely and the TVs with lots of channels for movies etc were great after a long day of sightseeing before I went to sleep. Only thing is a hope they plan to put in a pool in future :)

This is a great hotel if you like old colonial hotels and a high level of personal service. My family and I stayed here for four nights in early May, 2014, during a tourist visit to Yangon. Our stay was great from start to finish. We booked airport pickup from the hotel and it worked fine and check in was quick and easy. The hotel has only a handful of rooms and each floor is looked after by a butler. The staff are curteous and friendly and quick to respond. The rooms are huge. Breakfast is served at the table and, naturally, there are fewer choices than from a buffet. However, the food was delicious and being waited on at the table is more civilized than a buffet. The hotel bar is great with good drinks and friendly staff; lots of expats on Fridays. This is a great hotel but don't choose it if you're looking for value for money or modern facilities (the building is 100+ years and plumbing, and so forth are not entirely up to date) or a swimmingpool (there is none). Do choose it if you want a piece of history and old-fashioned, excellent personal service.

Lovely Staff Always welcoming With beautiful smiles.
The Strand Hotel draws in not only hotel guests, but hundreds of tourists each week keen to see a beautifully maintained colonial building with a long history as a leading hotel in Yangon. Each week many local expats and Myanmar frequent the bar to mingle and talk of current affairs, business and general gossip.

Although I have never slept in this hotel, I've seen the impressive rooms they have quite a few times. I am also a regular at the Strand Cafe and bar during Friday's happy hours. I love the charming colonial atmosphere of the place and always recommend the place to friends and clients. Not a single one of them has ever been disappointed!
