“Colonial Charm”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2014

Location: in the colonial district, center of the city, nice surrounding area
Reception: greeted by name when checking in, excellent job.
Room: very spacious. Bed comfortable with quality linear. No tea and coffee facility in room, but with butler service of hot tea and coffee delivered very quick to your room.
Service: very accommodating. Request a late check-out at 4pm, though not possible, was offered a room for refresh and shower before the flight.
Breakfast: plenty of choice and really delicious. Best food in my Myanmar trip.

Overall the hotel is on the pricy side to SEA standard but well worth the money.

It is not your budget place but the service and history make it a destination stay. We loved the way they knew our every need and were above and beyond helpful. The restaurants were fantastic!! The shops as well. The architecture make this a must visit even if you don;t stay here, but do.

This was the second time we have stayed at the Strand, the first was in 1989 and the place has changed! It has been restored beautifully, it is quiet, elegant and faultless. Our room had a butler service on hand, the cafe did a good mohinga soup, the conciege lady spoke excellent English and the bar makes a lovely gin and tonic. The hotel is very central and it is an interesting walk to the Shwedagon early in the morning through the colonial quarter.

The room was extremely spacious with high ceiling. Hotel is clean and there is a butler at your service. Comfortable bed, clean room, great service when they deliver coffee or tea to your room. The hotel is opposite a ferry terminal where you can take the ferry across to an island where there are many villages that you can visit. There are trishaw riders who quote about 10USD for 2hrs and they will bring you around to see the different villages and temples on the island.
After a long day, most places closes by 9pm so it is awesome to head back to the hotel to have a drink. The hotel's bar is a great place to chill out with good drinks selection.
Breakfast was yummy but we always prefer the cheaper alternative to eat street food simply because it tastes more authentic with a casual local taste to it.

Our first time ever in Myanmar and Yangon welcomed us so warmly (not just the heat :)) which continued in the hotel. The view at the building itself was already wonderful, then the lobby, the bellboy, the welcome drink, our room, a butler… We felt back in time in the colonial Burma.

The hotel is so central that we instantly explored the area by foot. Found a brilliant gallery very close by, had a lovely experience in on of the streets nearby: We saw 'golden bananas' and wanted to buy few. They offers - of course - a whole bunch. This was far too much but at the end we agreed and thought we will give it to somebody on the street. But at the end they didn't want to sell anymore they insisted to give the bananas as a present. We insisted but useless. Such a nice experience.

The breaki next morning in the hotel: Brilliant. We didn't miss ANYTHING. During our stay we also had lunch and dinner there and it was all delicious. At dinner time in the restaurant in the back it was a little stiff due to just another table filled but it was all right.

A wonderful luxurious colonial experience. Loved it!

The Strand transports you back in time to colonial Burma. It oozes charm and character, from the lobby, the bar and the restaurants, to the rooms themselves. The hotel staff are courteous, and nothing is too much trouble for the dedicated room butlers.
We had dinner once at one of the restaurants, and I can highly recommend the tea-leaf salad. Among the bathroom products they also offer local thanaka - a nice touch. The wifi signal was good, excellent for getting in touch with people at home especially when you keep in mind that your mobile won't work anywhere in Myanmar. I even used skype, and the connection was fine.
If you're going to Yangon, might as well stay in the city's most iconic hotel!
