This is a pretty standard 3.5 star hotel that thinks its a 5 star. The foyer bar is fairly soulless, and when we visited, the swimming pool was unavailable for use by guests. Rooms are fine but uninteresting, and bathrooms a little tired. Breakfasts are good (eat in the main, ground floor restaurant).

We stayed here one night, on the return leg of our trip to Myanmar.

This hotel is a 3 or possibly 4 star hotel.

The check-in is painless and swift.

The rooms are large enough, with decent facilities.

We were not asked if we wanted a smoking or non smoking room and, unfortunately got a smoking room. When we arrived, we thought it would be ok but it was very smelly when we went to bed. A mistake on our part and it would have been nice to have been asked.

We did not want to go out that night & toured the Sedona restaurants.

The Irish style pub downstairs looked ok; however, the hotel was hosting a huge, Chinese wedding the same night and the sight of the food preparation in the car-park impacted our Irish appetites.

The brasserie was closed (2030), despite being advertised. So we tried the Italian for pizza.

It has to be said, the restaurant experience was below par. The pizza and bread were very bland. The Tiger beer was great though! The same restaurant served breakfast the next morning. The selection looked great but the egg chef struggled with the guest requests & everything was ... well bland. In addition, we were charged extra for asking for cappuccino, instead of the standard coffee: a practice I hate.

Room Tip: Make sure you specify if you want non smoking.

As we had never stayed in Mandelay before, we opt for no surprises and booked an up market hotel. Arriving these the Sedona appears to be an average hotel, for facilities, services while the prices are really elevated. I have even filled out an appraisal form to the chain in Singapore telling that teh Manadaly hotel had really elevate prices for mediocre service and facilities.
However the location is really magnificent, locate in one of the strategic corner of the Mangadlay fort the view over both the fort and the Mandelay hill are really magnificent.

Room Tip: Get a room on the front side of the hotel as this view is what you all came for !! See photos.

The Sedona is one of the rare hotels in Yangon with a pool, bathtubs in each room, room service and excellent internet access. The staff wwere friendly, super-polite and obliging from the offset. The shuttle bus into town could be more frequent, but the service they provide in terms of helpfulness, politeness and cheerfulness makes up for it. Rooms are good size, very well-kept and clean, if a bit old fashioned. There's still everything you could need - satellite TV, internet, room service and a fabulous pool. Breakfast is plentiful, though they pack up promptly so if you're late you miss it. The internet connection was fast and I could access any sites. I had been warned that this would not be possible in Burma because of censorship, but it was not he case in the Sedona. There's a good choice of restaurants and a very good late-opening Irish themed bar in the lobby area. The concierge was very helpful and informative about local places of interest and I was attending a conferece there which was excellently organised. The only criticism I would make is that arriving back late one night, at about 2am, the lobby seemed to be strewn with prostitutes.

Yangon is startlingly green and the golden spired pagodas add a magical contrast. But in a city which has few communication links with the modern world, one needs the comfort of a safe and familiar abode, which the Sadona Hotel luckily provides. A great Italian restaurant, a popular pastry shop, international cuisine in room service, a helpful, English speaking staff, all this belongs to the comfort zone of travel. The hotel is designed to give you privacy, yet bring you into a social ambience when you seek it. And Yangon certainly deserves a visit, though one with the safety net of a reliable travel agent.

Room Tip: Get room overlooking the swimming pool

We stayed one night at this hotel before leaving Myanmar. It is on the same category/price range as the Park Royal which is a bit closer to town center. Compared to park royal, room at sedona is more comfortable and better maintained; the bathroom is definitely a step up in term of cleanliness and functionality. The breakfast selection is huge offering wide variety of western and asian dishes. There is also a nice outdoor swimming pool. Except for its slight off center location, this hotel provides a much better value than the park royal. It is only 6km/4000ks from airport so a perfect hotel option for staying the night before going to airport.

Room Tip: asiaroom or agoda offers discounted rate...we paid 100usd + tax for a double that would cost 150usd...

It claims to be a five star, but the facilities, deco and everything is just the very standard hotel you can imagine. No character.
