“Excellent hotel at reasonable price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 March 2014

We had a brief stay at this hotel, as we arrived at night and left again after only one day. But we were impressed by the service, the excellent buffet breakfast and the superb location.Considered it belongs to 'Shangri-La' Group, we think that the price we pay for the room was quite good.We will definitely come back!

My wife and I stayed at Traders before and after travelling up country to shoot tigers. My wife is new to big game hunting but I am a seasoned shooter
Traders is very calming with wonderful friendly staff who seem genuinely pleased to help.
Highly reccomended and a good location too.
The bit about hunting is not true.

This trip we decided to give the Traders a visit
Upon arrival at night ( 2345) , we faced a queue for check in of 30 minutes . 10 mins per person
This in a shangrila group hotel is unacceptable .
The staff were slow and there were only 2 of them , plus the dragon flight from Hk is known to bring the Hk business trade . The people behind who had not flown business were still queuing after I had showered and returned to the lobby.
The concierge staff had no clue on where / how to purchase a SIM card.
Rooms were clean quiet comfortable but non-descript. plus the hotel has a central location
For 283 usd a night I expect far more .
The bar was closed so we had the choice of warmish beer at the coffee shop
The breakfast the next morning was noisy packed , as any hotel running full would be , but was a well stocked mid level buffet .
I cannot say the hotel was in anyway bad but it just did not match previous trader stays , and given the choice of the savoy or the governor's residence , which are not as well located or as business like but are running at the same price , I would definitely opt for these instead next time.

Dear RHKP_traveller,
Thank you very much for your comments from your recent stay with us. I appreciate the feedback, since it provides an opportunity for us to improve our services and product. I apologize for the slow check in experience and will ensure that we prepare better for the late night arrivals, which we need to anticipate much better.
Simple services like a SIM card remain a challenge in Myanmar, but we will continuously improve not only our concierge services, but also our F&B offerings.
Hopefully you will allow us to demonstrate the improvements, as me and my team are looking forward to providing you better service upon your return.

We stayed at the Traders Yangon for two nights at the beginning of our Burma trip. It is well located in the heart of the city. Our room was large and clean but generally the hotel felt like it was ready for some repairs and refurbishment, in comparison to other Traders Hotels we have stayed in the service and look and feel of the hotel was lacking.

Breakfast was good with a wide choice.

Give the bar a miss service was very very slow and the coffees we had were expensive

It an expensive hotel which could do more for its guests

Room Tip: We asked for a high floor

Dear 86Robsons,
Thank you very much for your comments and valuable feedback on your most recent trip with us. I am sorry to hear that your experience was not a better one, and apologize sincerely for the shortfalls.
Although our repairs and refurbishments are ongoing, I am happy to report that we are almost done with the progress and look forward to presenting better, upgraded facilities and product.
I will personally follow up on the slow bar service, which is not acceptable and needs improvement.
Our entire team is looking forward to welcoming you back and impressing you with the improvements made.
Best regards,

We spent two nights in Trader's Yangon - one at the start & one at the end of our 10 day trip to Myanmar. It was the most expensive place we stayed and objectively the most luxurious. It wasn't my favourite hotel of the trip, but we had a good time.

Pros
Clean room with a comfortable bed & good shower (plentiful torrent of hot water with Trader's own brand of not-at-all-like-what-your-grandmother-smells-like lavender scented toiletries) with plenty of white towels & two waffle robes

Extensive & high quality breakfast buffet - definitely the best we experienced during our trip - with lovely fresh fruit, breads & pastries, fresh juices, cappuccinos, eggs cooked to order, plenty of savoury & asian options, a doughnut "tree", a live waffle station and even a bucket of Chupa Chups - for the kid in all of us. :)

Wifi - while still slow by most international standards, was some of the fastest we encountered in Burma (but then you don't go on holiday to Burma for the wifi!)
Although we were far too slack/busy to use it, the hotel has a nice looking gym overlooking their rooftop pool area

Cons
Bustling business-like atmosphere - lots of laptops over pre-dinner drinks in the lobby lounge & the breakfast restaurant was also quite noisy. The hotel was also hosting a wedding when we checked in so there were kids running about & shrieking. The pool bar also suffered from a rather unfortunate constant humming noise - generators or A/C units it wasn't clear which - but it interfered with the otherwise peaceful surroundings somewhat.

The hotel is also undergoing renovation work - which we heard progress right above our 2nd room (only during the day from 9am to 6pm so quiet at night) Not a huge deal but would have been nice to know at the time of booking (for $300+ a night I kind of expect to be able to relax in the room during the day too)

While staff were friendly, on checking in, the front desk almost immediately asked us "What time will you be checking out?" which though perhaps a necessary question for allocation of rooms, also felt a bit premature & unwelcoming

Slooooooow lifts - going upstairs to fetch something from our room on the 10th floor took the better part of 10 minutes to go up & back at times. And there is also no onsite parking, so if you're being picked up be on time or else your car will need to leave & circle the network of one way roads around the hotel again.

While it's clearly one of the best hotels in Yangon and we were perfectly satisfied with our stay, compared to recent hotel stays in other South East Asian cities we thought it offered only average value for money and (aside from breakfast) was somewhat lacking in wow factor for the price point.

We began and finished our 3 week visit to Myanmar by staying at this hotel. Great service from start to finish, especially at club level. Rooms were excellent, good choice for food and lots of choice just outside. You're a 5 minute walk from places like Sule Pagoda and Scott's market, as well as all the colonial buildings near city hall. Pool/spa area was amazing, with water and fruit on offer to keep you hydrated (note, no hotel in Myanmar heats their pool, enjoy it for what it is). Massive choice at breakfast, with all cuisines on hand. Thoroughly enjoyed staying here in February, 2014. One of the only places we stayed that had a good internet connection (you are in Myanmar, after all). Thanks, Traders!

Room Tip: We stayed at club level on our first visit (21st floor) and 10th floor on second visit. Club level w...

Combined Buisness family vacation. All staff are amazing. Mike at the bar has the best trained staff and is the best bar manager in south and south east Asia. I used to stay at park royal. No more this is the best hotel in Yangon, great location brand new rooms and five star service.
