“Value For Money, Good Location”
Reviewed 7 December 2012

Chatrium is nice and huge hotel, with large rooms. There are numerous dining varieties. Preferred to dine in the hotel itself rather than outlets in the city. Tried the Japanese restaurant, Kohaku. Food was decent and inexpensive. One of the drawbacks were the wifi connection, barely had any signal and internet speed was ridiculous & highly over priced. Had wifi connection for 3 days and had to pay about USD 40 ? Had no signal going on. Apart from that, the lobby lounge is quite relaxing, great atmosphere and suitable to try out or drink your myanmar beer and watch the sunset.

Chatrium is a high end hotel with large rooms, swimming pool, spa, and a good breakfast spread. The dinners are not very good and it is best to go out on the town. The park is directly across the street - great for walking.

The hotel is nice arcitecture from colonial times, but this implies ageing, and servicse mentality is low. They charge 5% on visa, and wifi is just stupid, every time your device is idle you have to logon again. As this is large compound and wifi is free, i dont know what are their fears, that outsiders log in. Just annoying. Rooms are nice but carpets are ( due to the weather) wet and therrefore mold, you will smell it.
180 per night is not appropriate, but as the city is fully booked, quite normal.
Brakfast is unfortunately quuite basic for 5*.

We booked a package tour of Myanmar which included luxury hotel accommodation. Our itinerary stated 1 night deluxe accommodation at Chatrium Hotel in Yangon. When we checked in, our friends and ourselves were allocated rooms on the club level. We were pleasantly surprised and assumed this was the deluxe accommodation referred to. We queried whether we had access to the lounge and free Internet and were answered that we were entitled to both as we were on club level. We went into the lounge and between us ordered a cup of coffee, a cup of tea and a can of diet coke and took a small bowl of nuts. We were asked our room numbers and were served our drinks. While drinking we were approached and told our rooms were not eligible for the club as we had been given upgrades which did not include the lounge. They were very apologetic that we had been given the incorrect information and we accepted this. Imagine our horrow to be presented with a bill for $17 for these drinks as we were not eligible and were then told that our Internet was no longer complimentary either. We paid the bill and asked to speak to the duty manager but no-one would call him/her. The only person they would let me speak to was guest relations who appeared appalled by the situation and promised to look into it and that was the end of that. When we came up to our room that evening they refunded me 1 dollar which they calculated was overcharged! Imagine receiving an upgrade to business class on a plane, being served business class food and then being charged for it, as the crew forgot to tell you until after you had eaten it, that you had received an upgrade that did not include food so would be charged for it. We are all utterly appalled and will recommend to anyone who asks us where to stay, to stay anywhere but the Chatrium.

We stayed for two nights and enjoyed our stay. Breakfast good with plenty of choice. We also had dinner in the hotel and were very happy with the food and service. The pool area was lovely although we were too busy to use it! There was a big wedding on at the poolside one evening but this was all over by 10pm so not a noise problem. We watched the proceedings with interest from our balcony which had a view to the Shwedagon pagoda which was spectacular at night.

We stayed at the hotel for three nights in October this year. The room was good, clean and with comfortable bed. The hotel staff were pleasant and helpful and the restaurants served good food.
There is a large swimming pool, we did not try that. All in all a convenient and pleasant place to stay when sightseeing in Yangon.

Room Tip: Our room was a deluxe room on the third floor over looking the gardens and swimming pool.

Dear Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon.

My name's Watanyu W. and I would like to make a compliment to your staff, Miss Sarah who services on first floor at Tourist Info desk.

During my staying on 21-22 October 2012, miss Sarah gave us a lot of escorting about places to go and how, since I'm Thai, it was easier to communicate my own language, miss Sarah happened to speak Thai very well, her Thai was exactly right, politely and fluently, also she was perfectly nice girl with beautiful smiling face.

I was amazed and felt very good for the whole staying coz I realize I always could get some help from her during staying by just saying my own language.

The rest of the staffs are also very polite and helpful, I couldn't remember every name but I felt very grateful for their good caring during my trip.

Thank you very much and hope to see you all again some day soon.
~Watanyu
