I very much enjoyed my stay here, especially the spacious, nicely furnished room and bathroom. It's quiet and luxurious, with lovely decorations, plants, and a picture-perfect pool overlooking part of the city. There's lots of public space. Because it's set aside from the hustle and bustle, though, there are not many places you can walk to (like restaurants), and I was so tired upon my arrival that I didn't even try to walk off the grounds. Instead, I had a nice little lunch in the restaurant downstairs. The room is impressive, with huge tall windows, statuary, and an enormous vase in a cool wooden structure next to our table. The service was excellent, the waitress even sneaking watermelon off the buffet for us when my friend and I wondered why it wasn't on the menu. But the cups of hot tea we had afterward - nothing special - each cost $3, an exorbitant amount for Myanmar. I guess this follows the pattern of so many top-notch hotels, that gouge the "let's meet for coffee" folks because you are enjoying the gorgeous setting. Breakfast, an enormous buffet in the same area, was fantastic, though.

We stayed 2 nights in this hotel before an 8 day river cruise. It was the best way to begin this type of trip at nearly the hottest time of the year. The setting is perfect, quiet and spacious. The staff were superb, always genuinely friendly, helpful and engaging. The in house restaurants were excellent and food of wide ranging variety very good. Such hotels are not yet in abundance in Myanmar but we would not hesitate to visit the Chatrium again.

We stayed at the Chatrium Hotel for 4 nights in March. The hotel is in a peaceful location and the rooms with Club access were a good size. The lounge I found to be small but satisfactory and the staff were all friendly. The breakfast offered a good variety catering to all tastes and nationalities. I ate dinner in the restaurant twice and did not enjoy the food at all.

You can buy sim cards for your phone for $25.00 for 20 minutes of international calls from the souvenir shop to the right of the lift. I was unable to get a line out of the country but it worked on local calls.

A taxi into the city costs 3000Kyats. The exchange rate in March was about 850 Kyats to the USD. The exchange rate at the hotel was the same rate that was offered at the airport.

Overall a good comfortable stay.

Had one night a the Chatrium Hotel and it is def not 5 star standard. The rooms are old but certainly spacy and clean. They have a pool outside and the breakfast is ok but all not worth the money. But hard to find something better in Yangoon at the moment...

Possibly the only hotel in Myanmar to aspire to 5 star status.
The last day we were there, the Myanmar Military hired the conference centre to host the " Passing Out" graduation ceremony of their Navy.
Well appointed in beautiful. spacious grounds opposite the Royal Lake, with Spa, Swimming Pool, Gymnasium, and good free WiFi.
There are 3 top restaurants including Japanese that has cleanly gentle and very fresh food for a much travelled stomach!
Be sure to pre-book a non-smoking room if that is your preference, as whole floors still have a heavy smoking smell.
Apparently prices have doubled in the last year as affluent tourists are now arriving in numbers.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room with views across the City to the justly famous Shwedagon Pagoda
