“Escape from chaos”
Reviewed 23 March 2013

This is a lovely Colonial style hotel with good facilities & nicely furnished. The bed was on the hard side, but perfectly comfortable. The pool area was lovely, very peaceful. Average breakfast. The staff on reception tried to be helpful, but most had a small working knowledge of English. We had trouble getting more than one towel! Although it's quite a long way from the centre of town, I thought that was good, as it's chaos in town! A taxi to the Strand Hotel area was only 3,000 bht (under $4). We found that it was easier to go to a big hotel & ask the doorman to get you a taxi for the return trip. The hotels in Myanmar are expensive & the restaurants match the room costs. Opposite the Savoy on Inya Rd is a very basic looking restaurant called Friendship Restaurant. We approached it with trepidation, but it was excellent & very cheap. There was another good restaurant, if you liked curries, called Thai Kitchen, on the opposite side to the Savoy across Dhammazedi Rd.

Room Tip: The best rooms overlook the pool.

We stayed here at the beginning and end of our Myanmar visit and were very comfortable. The building is exactly as one would expect with lots of polished wood, old artefacts and colonial type service, all surrounding a lovely little pool. Rooms are simply stylish and very comfortable, the staff are, of course, attentive, helpful and delightful. They were soooo obliging at the end of our travels when I wanted to freshen up at the end of a sight seeing day and just prior to leaving for the airport; so had checked out of our room. They installed a hairdryer, towels and bathroom goodies in the pool changing room to make my very own bathroom. Service indeed. We ate in the restaurant which we found very satisfactory, the food is of a high standard for a developing country, service pleasant and the atmosphere convivial. Thoroughly recommended

Have beeen there just for dinner as I wanted to take a new hotel as ny favourite, but unfortunately massed up.
I ordered tuna and steak, first they were comming up with steak, so i asked them to bring tuna first, this w done. And tuna was quite fine, but then the steake cameback, but for me it turned out as lamb and as a quick unfrozen too.

You an see it from the surfacce if you ever have done some meet.
So I really dont understand why they do such ... , with such a nice place.

I stayed for the 8 th time in 5 years at the Savoy and noticed some nice improvements done by the Management . The new showers in the rooms , the kettle and complimentary coffee and tea , and the new lamps near the beds ...
It is such a nice feeling to come back every time and be welcomed by the doormen, who are the same lovely people for many years now .
Despite the 'new rates ' I will come back for the 2 nd time this year in August .
By the way , the rooms on the pool side are the quietest !
Just give me room 109 and I am happy !!

Room Tip: Don't choose 109 or 105 , it's mine :-)

My wife and I spent one night here last month and were altogether pleased with the place. Our room had plenty of space and was quite clean and quiet. Dinner and breakfast were very nice and the hotel's staffers were very friendly and efficient.

We stayed in the Savoy for 2 nights in the first part of our trip and 1 night at the end. We asked and got rooms overlooking the pool. The rooms provide everything you need. We stayed in room 206 the first time and room 308 (3rd floor) on our return trip.

The air-conditioning is fantastic and provides the temperature you want. The pillows are very soft - just how I like them. Strangely they only initially provide 2 pillows to a double bed, but on requesting two more, these were provided very promptly.

Bathroom is lovely, with all the usual accessories, although the temperature in the showers seems to vary quite a bit, as you are using it

No omelette service unfortunately which is a shame as it was provided in other hotels of lesser *

The pool is small but good for a dip following visiting the temples. Not many sunbeds unfortunately. The area is very clean, with individuals picking up flowers/leaves almost all the time. The bar snacks are quite pricey, but on par with this hotel standard - you pay in $, not in Khats.

We did not eat in the hotel, so cannot comment on the quality or the service, but the prices seemed quite high for Burma, when we looked at the menu. We did have a glass of wine in the Captains Bar which was a good sauvignon blanc Red Mountain as a reasonable price

A lovely way to start our holiday in Burma and would definitely stay at the Savoy again.

Room Tip: We stayed in rooms 206 and 308 and both were very good. Make sure you ask for a room overlooking the...

We have just returned from Yangon and stayed in this hotel for a night.
It is not anywhere near the standard of the 2 other boutique hotels in Yangon and in Australian terms it is really a basic 4 star hotel.
The most disappointing area was food in the main restraurant which was almost appalling.. So much so most of the food was left on the plate by 4 of us and the in room breakfast was laughable.
Both the Strand and the Governors residence surpassed this hotel easily , we having stayed in both the others., the latter of the 2 was the best and the strand was fun

Room Tip: No lift and it 2 story's high!
