“Good but old”
Reviewed 31 January 2013

This hotel has been here for long and the rooms haven't probably been renovated for a while. Despite that, the room I was given was very clean and there were no strange odours or marks of mold. The room was huge with two double beds. Bathroom was a bit small but it was clean and it had a bathtub. A big surprise was that the hotel had free Wi-Fi provided both in the lobby and in the room. For the rate I paid (less than $100 USD per night) the room had a great value.

The location is quite central but don't expect to find big malls here. There's a restaurant down the street called 365 Cafe, serving western food. The steaks here are delicious!

If you're adventurous you can quite easily walk around in the city. Otherwise take a taxi, they don't cost much. In any case watch out for the holes in sidewalks and make sure you'll bring a flashlight with you. Most of the streets are lacking lights!

This is a typical business hotel/upper scale package tour hotel. All works smooth and the service is great, as you would expect for this type of hotel. Good location within walking distance of down town, at least with a good pair of fit feet’s. Our only objection is the lack of local charm, you could be anywhere in the world. If you – like us – prefer local charm and uniqueness of smaller hotels/guesthouse and the occasionally luxury boutique hotel this is not the perfect option. For what this hotel is, it does it well. No need to book orchid rooms.

Dear Sir / Madam,
Thank you for choosing PARKROYAL Yangon as your preferred residence in Yangon and for recommending us on Tripadvisor.
As you have rightfully mentioned, our Hotel is located in a Central Business District, many Tourist and Retail attractions are within walking distance. Over the past several years, we have continued to upgrade our facilities and enhance our offerings. The Hotel offers local connections in several forms. Our welcome Ambassadors wear the traditional Myanmar costumes from various states, all front line associates uniforms similarly reflect Myanmar culture, Hotels Lobby is reflective of Myanmar’s rich wood carvings and paintings, our restaurants offer various Myanmar specialties in our Breakfast menu as well as other meal periods and in the in Room Dining Menu.
I look forward to your next visit, please drop me a note, we could also arrange some special itinerary during your stay to explore the local charm within the Hotel and in the city.
Kind regards

we stayed at this hotel for one night before our domestic flight to mandalay. The decor was lovely and the room was modern and updated with a flat screen tv, free wifi, and a comfortable large bed. large clean bathroom and shower. quite an expensive hotel ($250/ night) given it was southeast asia but for the comfort and location it was worth it. the breakfast buffet would have been at least $25/ pp in the US and was the largest most comprehensive buffet i have ever had. i would definitely recommend those not counting pennies to stay here, they took our visa card (though oddly not our credit card- it didnt go through- but the bank debit card worked).

Room Tip: ask for an updated/ renovated room

This hotel is average in almost every way. It's like an American transplant in an unexciting area of Yangon. The lobby could be anywhere in the world. There are some teak finishes, but they are of indifferent quality. At the Brasserie, service is slow and the restaurant staff haven't been trained where to position the knives and forks of different sizes, or to set the table with table napkins. Burmese parasols on the walls give a spurious impression that this is true Myanmar, but really the style and the food are middle America. It's not surprising that this restaurant was virtually deserted at lunchtime on a Saturday. Upstairs there's a Chinese restaurant that is a little busier. The bedrooms are nicely appointed but with a standard Holiday Inn or Marriott layout. TVs are flatscreen, internet access is free - you are given an ID and password by the hotel. If you're travelling on business and want basic American comforts, you will feel safe and secure in this environment, but if you are a tourist wanting to get a feel for Myanmar, you would be better off staying either at a colonial-style hotel like the Governor's Residence or the Strand, or finding a more lively establishment.

Thank you for choosing PARKROYAL Yangon as your preferred residence in Yangon and for recommending us on Tripadvisor.
I take note that you enjoyed our services and accommodation standard and also have discussed your recommendations for service and culinary improvements in La Brasserie Restaurant with our operations team. The Phoenix Court and Shiki Tei offer Chinese and Japanese cuisines and are popular with our in house and city patrons. We have recently enhanced the menus in both Restaurants.
I look forward to you being our continued patron and please be so kind as to drop me a note whenever you plan your next visit.

We stayed at the Parkroyal twice in December 2012/January 2013 on either side of a two week tour around Burma.

The hotel was picked for us by our specialist travel agent. Accommodation in Yangon/Rangoon has not kept pace with the tourist influx over the last year and options are very limited. Even though we booked seven months in advance, the Parkroyal was the only international standard option available to us.

We were quite surprised how large the hotel was - the individual floors were quite large. This was good because it meant that there was a good choice of restaurants in the hotel (3 in total with one offering both buffet and a la carte). You will probably find yourself eating at the hotel as despite being a very safe city, there are so few options - we ate at the hotel two out of three nights. There is a strip of local restaurants just behind the hotel.

The hotel itself was clean with good facilities (the gym was average) but had as much soul as a Westfield shopping centre. The rooms were comfortable, if about 15 years old. More than adequate however. There was a large pool (which would be great in summer). The breakfast buffet was really good. At all times the food appeared very clean which is important in this part of the world.

I note that a few people mentioned that the hotel is expensive. I didn't see the price of the rooms per night however if the price of the espresso coffee is any guide (US$5) the restaurants were on the pricier side - especially for a city where you can get a great hot meal elsewhere for US$3 - a sign of the times!!

We stayed here at the beginning and end of our stay in Myanmar for five nights in total. It was a perfect base from which to explore the city and is within walking distance of the Scott Street markets and the Shwedagon Pagoda.
We booked our King Deluxe rooms through Wotif for a rate that did not include breakfast. However on responding negatively that the breakfast was now USD15 each instead of USD10 as shown on the website this was suddenly included which was a bit of a bonus. Wifi vouchers were thrown in as well. Internet services are currently being upgraded and the exterior repainted. The lobby has a nice feel to it and was adorned with a huge Xmas tree when we arrived; homage to western visitors.

Our room: This was quiet, clean and comfy and had all of the trimmings that you would expect in a Parkroyal. The bathroom was a bit faded with lots of mastic used and could do with a refurbishment. Towels were thin and a shade of grey; we only scored white fluffy ones on our final night in room 705. There are plenty of toiletries. The mini br is a bit scarcely stocked but this was not an issue for us.

Room service: We ordered a jug of cold milk for our cups of tea but got a teapot of hot milk, a lost in translation moment for USD5. This was quickly rectified with a cold teapot full, more than we needed. The club sandwich was ok and came with a little pot of shoestring fries.

Lobby Bar: Our drinks after a day of exploring came with lots of nibbles which were replenished. Mocktails were USD6 and a 650ml bottle of Myanmar lager was USD7 Light meals are also served here and we enjoyed salads one night instead of heading out again.

Breakfast: This was probably the best we enjoyed in Myanmar. There is plenty to choose from and the hot dishes change everyday. Indian, Chinese, Japanese and Malay food is served together with the usual western options with a separate station serving Myanmar food - mohinga.
We enjoyed the eggplant curry and beef rendang with coconut rice. Orange juice was a disappointment here as elsewhere, sweet powdered stuff or watery. Watermelons and papayas are juiced but not oranges and they are in season there, sold on the street at the markets.

Breakfast Box: Our tortuous 4.00 a.m. start to catch a plane to Bagan was exacerbated by this complimentary offering from the hotel. We sat bleary eyed at the airport and watched enviously food beiing consumed from breakfast boxes supplied by other hotels. Ours was a carb overload, stodgy bread in various forms relieved by a banana, hard boiled egg and bottle of water. Coffee and croissants at the airport cafe or breakfast on the plane are better options because this box is not a winner.

Airport transfer: Expect to pay 8000 kyats for a taxi to the airport. It takes just under half an hour early in the morning but double this during the day. The concierge will call one over and arrange this.

We would stay here again for the breakfast, central location and friendly staff.

Room Tip: Pool side rooms are quieter and the higher the better.

Dear Sir / Madam,
Thank you for choosing PARKROYAL Yangon as your preferred residence in Yangon and for recommending us on Tripadvisor.
Your efforts to provide valuable feedback on various moments of truth through your stay is most appreciated.
PARKROYAL Yangon makes an effort to always connect our guests to festivities. As in December, Hotel also celebrates various Myanmar festivals i.e Thingya, Tazaundgaing, Thadingyut etc through the year to help connect our guests with the festivities.
For the convenience of guests leaving very early in the morning, Hotel offers the option of a Takeaway Boxed breakfast, I have noted your comments for improvements and have discussed them on to our Culinary team.
I look forward to your next visit, please be so kind to drop me a note whenever you plan your next visit.

This hotel has all necessary facilities for a convenient stay in Yangon. The location is vey central. Rooms are good but not very special. The bathroom is too small and taking a shower ends in a lot of water on the bathroom floor. Quality of the bed is good. The lobby is pleasant and the staff very friendly and helpfull. There are good quality restaurants in the hotel and the Japanese buffet is great! Breakfast is good but the restaurant is very noisy. For Yangon it is a good place too stay but overpriced.

Dear Sir / Madam,
Thank you for choosing PARKROYAL Yangon as your preferred residence in Yangon and for recommending us on Tripadvisor.
Your comment on the service provided by our Associates is well appreciated, they are our biggest asset,
Hotel’s location is ideal being in the Central Business District and still within easy reach to several Tourist and Retail attractions.
Our restaurants enjoy good patronage and enjoy good reputation in the city. Shiki Tei, Japanese Restaurant serves a sumptuous Dinner buffet on a nightly basis.
Our rooms and beds have a comfortable layout, I have taken note your comment on the bathroom and have discussed with our Chief Engineer for improvement.
I look forward to your next visit as a continued patron of our Hotel and please be so kind as to drop me a note whenever you plan your next visit.
