“Everything about this hotel brings a smile to my face.”

Everything about this hotel brings a smile to my face. The welcoming smiling staff, the drink on arrival, the efficient check-in, the location on the Kandawgyi Lake, within walking distance to Karaweik Park and the Shwedagon Pagoda, the lush gardens and pool area, the spacious rooms and the restaurant choices, great breakfast dishes, I could go on and on. We stayed here with a group for only two nights, if we ever come back to Yangon we would stay longer to give us more time to truly enjoy this hotel. An oasis from the hustle and bustle outside.
This may not be officially numero uno hotel in Yangon but for me there is no other.

Room Tip: request a room overlooking the lake.

For whatever reason I was upgraded to a corporate suite on the fifth floor which was terrific. It is extremely spacious with a separate living room, study, walk in closet and large bathroom with separate tub and shower. My suite had a beautiful view of the nearby lake while the suites on the other side of the hall had views of Yangon's famous pagoda. The Thiri Restaurant food was good but not great and the service could have been better.

On the whole the hotel merits five stars for its beautiful rooms and beautiful architecture

This traditional-looking timber gem has to be up with the best in Yangon. From the smilingly smooth check-in on arrival, to the superb room appointments, first-rate dining options, enticing swimming pool with its own pavilion bar set in lush tropical gardens (check out the prehistoric monster lurking among the greenery) giving shelter to numerous fluttering birds and ever-darting squirrels, this rather grand hostelry offers the weary traveller a very welcome respite from the mayhem of Yangon's busy streets. It even provided the option of a signature dish of tantalising Myanmar cuisine - delicious mohinga - for breakfast!. Overlooking the serene, boardwalk-crossed Kandawgyi Lake, and giving sheltered views of the fabled Shwedagon Pagoda, this long-established paragon seems planted in an oasis of tranquillity. The hotel lobby provides periodic musical entertainment that doesn't intrude. Our return ten days after our first brief sojourn inexplicably rewarded us with upgrades to the salubrious governor's suites; what a turn-on! Who could resist staying here again?

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We were with a tour so I can't comment on distance to some of the sights but the Shwedagon Pagoda and the Karaweik park are within walking distance. It's location is very good, the facilities are very nice, the rooms are comfortable, service is great. As the previous reviews have stated, this is a very nice place to stay. The restaurant at breakfast time can be very crowded but the selections are numerous. Dinner can be on the expensive side but the food was good at the main restaurant. We also took a taxi from the airport for around $10 so don't prepay at a higher rate.

A lovely heritage hotel on the Kandawgyi Lake it is easily the best in Yangon.None of the others could possibly be better situated. The view and the beauty of this place makes just staying there a holiday in itself .Close to everything and a stones throw from Shwedagon Pagoda and the Karaweik park it lays on a super breakfast which is part of the room rent plus a cultural show with dinner in the evenings(@20$ per person).Young Yan Naung Lin at the concierge organized the cabs for our outings at very nominal dollar rates. With a smiling and extremely helpful staff at your beck and call it was a lovely experience.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the lake are super.

This hotel checks all the boxes. Best location in Yangon on the lovely lake and you get to watch the passing parade on the boardwalk. Big rooms, great facilities - the only hotel which actually had a 'spa' that was not in room version, high quality toiletries. Breakfast buffet with huge variety including Myanmar specialties. And the only barista coffee we came across.
Live music most nights, including demonstration of three Myanmar instruments.

Service is excellent. Turn down service included room tidy which was nice surprise.
Thoroughly recommended and worth the price, probably better value than most in Yangon

Room Tip: Live a little and try the Lake Front Deluxe which has a lake side sitting area

Yangon hotels are extremely expensive.

We stayed at this hotel on a package tour and were very impressed with most aspects, compared to other hotels in which we stayed in Inle Lake, Mandalay and Bagan.

The location necessitates a taxi ride to the city, but is peaceful, set in acres of gardens with a swimming pool which we did not have time to access, located on the shores of Lake Inya.

There is a money change facility in the foyer offering very competitive rates.

Our room on stays at the beginning and end of our tour (room 227), although facing the carpark, was spacious, with quality bed mattresses, crisp linen and fluffy thick towels. The bathroom had a spacious rain shower. The air conditioning was effective, and the wifi speed in the room was excellent (for Myanmar).

Breakfast was OK, with both eastern and western offerings, although wait staff at 5.30-6.30 am were almost impossible to locate.

Our tour group dined in the downstairs Chinese restaurant, which was extremely disappointing, with bland, overcooked food.

Don’t pre-book an expensive transfer to and from the airport. Air-conditioned taxis are readily available for $10 USD in both directions. Just make sure you negotiate the price before hopping into to the taxi. The time will usually be 20-30 minutes, or 60 minutes if you become ensnarled in the frequent traffic jams in Yangon.
