“City Center & City Center Plus”
Reviewed 25 June 2013

There are 3 Clover Hotels in Yangon, two on the same street 50 m apart and one a few km away - so make sure you know which one you booked as taxi's generally only know the older one which is not city center area! Regardless the City Center and City Center Plus Hotels are very new, clean and extremely well run with friendly staff in abundance the City Center Plus opened only a few months ago. Located on a dirty lane right behind Traders Hotel but a fraction of the price. Plenty of shops and markets within a short walk and now popping up everywhere coffee shops with those US brands where you pay 5x the price of local coffee. Good wifi is throughout these hotels and room amenities although sparse are adequate.....shower is not separate so your bathroom amenities will get wet if you don't cover them up. Good basic breakfast is served but no other restaurants to use so go out on the street to eat.

This place was perhaps the most professionally run hotel I stayed in Myanmar. Nice rooms with good air conditioning. Decent selection of TV to watch at night. Close to the LifeNet Internet cafe a block from the Sule Pagoda on Sule Pagoda road, for those of us who don't travel with a laptop. Very good breakfast and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful!

Room Tip: Try and be on the opposite side from the street. A bit loud, I imagine. The other side is quiet.

I stayed at this hotel for a week in June 2013 as part of a business trip. It was a welcome surprise to see inside having arrived in a narrow, filthy pot-holed street full of industrial merchandisers. However, it's location is excellent, just behind Traders (upmarket) and Central (similar) hotels and near the famous market. Inside was cool air conditioned, spotlessly clean, white and new. Staff were plentiful and so helpful, carrying bags, fetching taxis, anything you want really. The reception is on the 3rd floor, you just walk up a few steps and there is an elevator or steps to all the floors. The dining area is next to reception on the 3rd floor, tiny but cool and clean. They have a bar - big bottle Myanmar beer (very good) 2500 kyats (you can buy for 1200 in supermarket), 1500 for can, soft drinks 1000 per can, water bottle large 500. Meals are 3,500 kyats (excellent by the way but limited choice). Had one of the best noodle dishes I ever had there, the chef is very good, food is tasty and you always get a little dish of chilli and garlic in soya which is nice. The bedroom is spacious, cool, great air conditioning, fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, flat screen TV that gets the news and a movie channel in English as well as local language channels and one German I think. Nice beds, everything is white, the linen, bed covers, towls, really nice and so comfortable. A desk and chair, a large wet room bathroom. After a hot and sweaty day it was a pleasure to get into this room. I think the price is high however it's good value for Yangon as the country is booming and there are insufficient hotels so that's why the prices have trippled in the last few years. Outside the little street you are on the main road, taxis everywhere, a nice restaurant close by that the hotel will advise and you really could not wish for much more if you only want to pay about USD 80 a night. I definitely recommend it. The staff were amazing, all of them so polite and helpfula and cheerful. Well done to them all for this little gem. Incidentally, the Clover City Centre just next door is the same so it doesn't matter what one you stay at. They sometimes tell you that you are upgraded from the Clover City Centre to the Clover City Centre Plus but that's nonsense, they are both identical as I stayed in both and both times had the room I booked on the internet. Bless them for trying on the banter though!

Room Tip: Personally I preferred the Clover City Centre Plus only because the dining room and reception was on...

Stayed in a single room which is around 14 square meter. So with bed, desk and my staff was not much space to move left. But comfortable and even with a huge construction side direct in front of the hotel not as noisy as expected.
Breakfast is set menu and very simple.
It's overpriced like most hotels in myanmar at the moment. Cheaper and similar is the East Hotel for example. If there is no other option it's a good last minute hotel.

I book this hotel but was upgraded and transfer to the next building (50m) - Clover city center PLUS hotel...same owner. They were promoting this new hotel that just recently open. For those who are reading this review and willing to pay more than US$200 per night, please go straight to Traders Hotel" Park Royal Hotel and those willing to spent US$300 and above go to the Strand Htel. With that premise in mind, this is Clover City Center (us$80 budget range). I stayed for 4 nights and made my booking thru AsiaTravel.com and just got back.
This hotel does not have a lobby and the reception is on the 3rd floor. The hotel staff will gladly carry your luggages and show you the way once you are at the doorsteps. Like what most have mentioned, this hotel is located directly behind Traders hotel and Central Hotel and most taxis (from airport 8000kyats) know how to get there, though it's a 1 way traffic. The 400m drive onto 32nd street (hotel location) is not pleasant as its filled with potholes. Other than this issue, this hotel is a almost perfect and decent accomodation in Yangon. 90% of the occupants at this hotel are on long term business trip (2weeks or more), I was on vacation.
The rooms are clean, new, spacious and comfortable. The rooms are equipped with a portable safe ( the safe is not nailed to the floor and someone could carry the safe away but i had no problem with it) as well as hairdryer. The bed sheets are clean and the mattress firm. The toilet does not have a shower curtain so the bath floors do get wet. Each morning you be woken by the 5.30am church bells as Yangon is filled with Churches, Mosques and Pagodas.
The reception staff are friendly and more than willing to assist and speak decent English. Taxis are abundant along the street corners and the bell ops will get you a taxi anytime of the day. Taxi ride cost between 2000-2500kyats to most part of Yangon.
The food serve at the restaurant is decent, had several meals there though choices are limited. If you opt not to do the breakfast buffet (us$10 - for simplicity 10000 kyats) the average food item like fried rice is about 3500kyats and a latte. 3000kyats).The hotel provides 2 bottles of mineral water daily.Alternatively, you can buy all your tropical fruits from the street vendors and get the hotel staff to cut for you.
Eating in Yangon is inexpensive, at hotels all will accept either USD or Kyats, and average meal cost between US$5-13 (rice or noodle) without drinks. For all other daily transactions, kyats is the preferred currency. To eat at a local shop, it cost us$0.60 for a bowl of fish curry noodle.
Money exchange can be found in the city (Scott's market) or at the airport. Most will gladly take US$, Euro or SGD and rates are fair.

Spotless, friendly and convenient to necessities. Though it is situated at the back street of busy Yangon, it is really a place to look forward to rest after a tiring day of exploring. Staff are helpful and I particularly like the firm and comfortable beds. Room are really spotless with the good job done by the housekeeping team. Will stay there again on my return trip to Yangon.

Yangon is a strange city. Myamnmar is a poor country and Yangon is a poor city, but all the hotels there turned out to be somehow overpriced. So, Clover City Center with its 70-80 USD/night was quite an alternative. I did not expect that much and did not get that much. An average hotel. Someone here said it is a walking distance from Schwedagon? BS :) To Schwedagon, it takes 20 minutes by car, but Sule pagoda is really close indeed.
The side street hotel is located on is really scaring (narrow, dirty and noisy) but let it be "A Myanmar Spice". Myanmar people are nice and kind so don't be afraid.
The hotel staff is friendly as most of Myanmars, and speaks English.
Breakfast is just so-so ans so is Wi-Fi (but, once again, this is Myanmar).
