Best Western Green Hill Hotel is more than what I expected. Yangon is quite spread out, so location wise, taxis are a must (taxis are accessible and drivers are reliable). However, the rooms more than compensate - clean and spacious. Their breakfast buffet is superb with daily change of menus from Western to Asian cuisine. Most of all, the staff are friendly - esp Jonathan, the manager, who accommodated my questions and travel needs. I highly recommend Best Western which epitomizes the golden smiles of the Burmese people.

The Green Hill hotel (no one knows the ‘Best Western’ part of the name) exceeded our expectations during our short stay in January 2014. Having chosen one of the basic rooms, we expected a spartan small room. Instead we were shown a spacious, well-appointed room with a comfortable bed and clean bathroom. The reception staff were (as were almost all people in Myanmar) exceedingly helpful, remembering our names and other details and advising of the best sightseeing routes in Yangon. The breakfast buffet was basic but fit the bill for a largely business/tour group-based hotel in a large city. The hotel is 20 minutes walk/5 minutes taxi from Shewdagon Pagoda, and a 10 min taxi from the Strand/Suwe Pagoda. We would happily stay there again.

A few pointers to remember with every hotel in Myanmar. ATMs are now prevalent everywhere (including at the hotel, throughout Yangon, up and down Inle Lake and in Bagan). They still charge a fee for foreign card withdrawals. Many more places now accept credit card, although some charge a fee for their use. The rates for USD are more standard (USD100 : 982,000 kyat at January 2014) across the country. Internet access is widely available, and always free, but is SLOW. Expect it to be all but useless at peak times. Domestic flights must be booked through a local travel agent. We used (and can recommend) Myanmar Shalom Travel (salesdept@myanmarshalom.com). All these situations are fluid and will change rapidly over the coming months and years, but the information is accurate as at January 2014.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor for views of the Shwedagon Pagoda.

Considering that all hotels in Yangon are horrendous expensive, it is no surprise that this hotel is very expensive too. For the USD 150 to 180 per night you can get a luxury treatment / service at any 5 star hotels in the neighboring countries. Unfortunately at this moment there are no real alternatives yet, so you’d have to live with the current price levels or don’t visit Yangon.

The hotel itself has a good location and is easy accessible. The breakfast area is too small for the size of the hotel and it’s common that you either have to wait or if lucky, share a table with others. Breakfast buffet is OK, consider it average.
The rooms are OK in principal, which means they are clean and properly maintained. But it is obvious that this hotel must have been furnished in the 70ties and never got any upgrades / improvements afterwards. There is no gym, pool, spa or any other amenities that any of the other hotels in Yangon for that kind of a price offer.

The plus points are: nearly all staff speaks either very good or good English and they are all very friendly!! The WiFi system is FOC and quite stable as I’d experienced in other hotels in Yangon.

When you are there for business, take care of the following: after check in the automatically charge you the full price on your credit card. If for whatever reason you’ve to leave 1 day earlier, they don’t give you the money back. You can argue with them but at the end, you are at their mercy and as in my case, they take full advantage of this.

When you are there for pleasure/vacations: pay a bit more and chose another hotel with gym, pool, spa and other amenities.

And they charge different rates per day depending on their occupancy rate. High occupancy rate means high price.

In summary: I’ve stayed in other hotels in Yangon and this one is definitely too expensive for the services they offer!

This hotel was booked by our tour company and was streets ahead of the other hotels we stayed in. The location is about 20 minutes (depending on traffic which can be horrendous) from the downtown or centre of Yangon which was not a problem for us as transportation was arranged.
The lovely thing for me was that this hotel was exceptionally clean, with very large rooms, beautiful bed linen (white and clean and not worn). The bonus was that from our window we could see Shwedagon which is a fabulous sight both day and night.
Breakfast was another surprise - it was exstensive and offered a lot of choices.
The staff were delightful. Nothing we asked for was a problem and our requests were dealt with quickly and professionally.
I don't know what it costs to stay at this hotel however I highly recommend it. It is a welcome oasis from the bustle and dusty City of Yangon.

Room Tip: Politely ask for a room with a view.

New hotel just back of Chatrum.
Good location with restaurants in walking distance.
We stayed in executive room on 6th floor (non smoking floor), great view of the Shwedagon Pagoda.
Big room, very clean, with all the amenities you need, minibar (good price), coffee maker, wifi working well in the room, enough for email and app, nothing more but we are in Myanmar.
Didn't try thr breakfast because of early flight but we had a box with 2 eggs, 1 toast, 1 croissant, water, orange juice and 1 banana.
We paid 170 USD which is ok at the end for what they offer, we are in Yangon...
I will come back.

Room Tip: ask for a high floor with Pagoda view
