“Pagoda view is terrific”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 February 2012

This was my first stop in Myanmar and I felt lucky to get a room facing the pagoda as requested. Seeing it light up as evening darkened into night was delightful. The hotel had everything I needed including reliable in-room Internet ($10/24 hours). The staff was friendly and the breakfast buffet just fine. However dinner was beyond slow and the food we ordered disappointing. Breakfast is obviously their forte. The money changing facility in the back (past the hotel shops) offers the same rates as the airport and is quite handy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on an upper floor facing the pagoda.

This hotel is reasonable good with good view toward Shwedagon. Ask for room from 4 level facing the pagoda. View is fantastic. Room is tidy. Breakfast at the bar cafe restaurant at 1st level is basic however service is slow during the lunch period. Even though there are no crowd during lunch, it took nearly 20mins to serve my set of fish and chips meal. The distance from the city is a minus. You need to get a taxi which cost 2000kyat to town. However it is within walking distance to Shwedagon.

Nothing remarkable about this place. Very typical Asian Business style hotel i.e. impressive lobby; disappointing rooms. Swimming pool and fitness area are nice and the breakfast buffet is really extensive and good. Staff, however, are surly and promised lots and delivered nothing. Good location however, near the "Feel Myanmar Food" restaurant street and the view of the Shwedagon is impressive.

Large room, slept every night very good, walking distance to Shwedagon pagoda, staff very friendly and personal, large choice of breakfast, good restaurants (Canyon Coffee) at 4 minutes walking distance, at night great view from the roof (a little adventure though).

It was a welcoming sight, arriving in the middle of the night and seeing the brightly lit entrance driveway and a floodlit hotel facade. A great contrast to the 35 minute taxi ride from the airport in the dark as Yangon’s roads are not well lit and most cars and buildings in a dilapidated state.

It’s worth changing the money at the airport as now they seem to offer the best exchange rates, and negotiate a taxi in the local currency, going for 6,000 Kyats, either from the airport to the city, or vice versa.

The bedrooms are old but adequate and there is free bottled water and tea making facilities in the room. All the staff were very friendly. The hotel restaurant charges in US$++ I asked for the conversion rate if I were to pay in Kyats, but their rate was poor.

As you exit the hotel to the left, there are a few of restaurants, including a Singapore’s Kitchen which was packed with local business people downing bottles of Johnny Walker Black Label, as well as foreign tourists. The Chinese food was pretty good.

I know this is not typical of the hotels in Rangoon, where us foreigners "have" to stay ... as we stayed in others that were terrific.
Summit Park was a total dissapointment and simply put, we could not wait to "get out of the place". The hotel staff were pleasant, however, for me .... rooms are the most important part of any stay...
We were assigned rooms at the back... they had a depressing view, black mould on the high ceiling... and of course, it smelt of smoke... if this is where I had to stay again, when visiting Rangoon .... I would not visit Burma! It's a long time since I have stayed in a room so horrible!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking Schwedagon Paya pagoda ... these "non smoking" and cleaner rooms

Summit Parkview Hotel From the outside it is a characterless business style hotel with one redeeming feature. From deluxe rooms, about US$8 extra per night, there are views of the Shwedagon Paya. The downside to theses rooms are they face a busy road which can be quite noisy through the night. In hindsight probably not worth the extra because after the initial ‘oh, ah’ not much time was spent looking at the view.

Generally the rooms are OK with all the usual facilities for this type of hotel. The carpets need attention and in some public areas are in need of a clean.

The restaurant serves nice meals at around US$6-15++ for a main course and wine from US$30-120++; on some evenings they also offer a large buffet. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a money exchange service in the hotel that seems to offer the going rate with good clean Kyat bills. The laundry service was for one shirt US$3.50++ the Wi-Fi is around US$3.00++ per hour.
