Reviewed 18 May 2014

love the antique style of the home. strategic location at downtown/chinatown area. friendly hosts with great service!! free airport pickup by them. yangon map and clear directions were given to nearby convenient store. land-line phone is available. delicious snacks were provided. feel like home where you can watch TV at the living room, feel free to cook and eat at the dining area while chit-chat with other occupants and the host. great room ensuite bathroom with powerful shower. bed is comfortable.

Yangong Home Stay is exactly what it says. It is a shared home in the centre of Yangon yet hidden away just off 16th Street. Perfectly situated if you are a light sleeper. It is only a 10min walk from the chaotic riverfront boulevard, Strand Road, where you see the stately buildings like the Custom House, the Central Post Office and the British Embassy. You also are not far away from Chinatown the famous 19th Street where get your midnight snack from. My gf and I really enjoyed our stay. The free airport pick up is a nice gesture as getting cab that is going to drop you off at the exact location can be a daunting task after a long flight. If you are not used to the way things are in Burma the buildings around 16th street all look like they need a makeover, so don't shy away at the entrance and just say Mingawlaba to the friendly tailor sitting right next to the entrance of your building. Once you have reached the second floor and opened the door to the flat things are a bit more what you'd expect. The interior is very traditional most if it in teak with a hint of Japanese and Chinese. It is dark what you will appreciate once you understand what it does to the heat. The rooms are air conditioned and the beds very comfortable. You have towels and enough bedsheets and cupboard space for your belongings. You get a key for your room to lock it. The living room and kitchen is shared but has enough room to cater for all. There are 2 bathrooms and 3 showers. The kitchen has everything you need. There is a large fridge a microwave, toaster, a proper stove and storage cupboards. So if you are into exploring burmese cuisine at home, you could. The owner is looking after the flat and apart from your room the flat will be cleaned almost every day. There is a large washing machine for you to use which comes in handy. There is a balcony from where you can see it huzzling and buzzling from the early Morning hour. Since I'm an early bird I used to sit on the balcony with a cup of coffe and watched it all unfold. Don't worry you won't here any of that the rooms are in the back of the flat. There is a little library where you'll find plenty to read about Burma as well as martial arts. The owners are very friendly you'll get a business card with all their details. If you need anything they are at hand to help. They are very knowledgeable about the area what to do and what not to do and how to mingle with the locals. You'll need a bit of interaction skills. There is no Starbucks or McDonald's to help you out. This trip is all about cultural education. We gave Yangon Home Stay 5 out 5 because we felt living at home. Thank you
