This is a very nice cathedral in Yangon. Catholicism is decidedly a minority religion here... read more
The church is lovely and shows the leftover British Architecture of a by-done era of colonialism. It's directly beside the Scottish market, so a quick dash-in is easy (and sometimes needed after your shopping spree in the heat)
The church was well maintained and clean and easy to find. We attended the English service but the Homily was still in native language so was not able to understand.
i went there and it was closed , doesnt work from 1 to 3 pm. entrance is 1,5 $ and they call it donation !!!
maybe i want to donate 1 $. i get disappoint of paying tickets at holly places in Yangon. this did't happen anywhere in Asia.
anyhow, if you have time you can pass there
Along with the Synagogue and various other Christian churches shows the number of different influences of European colonization of Myanmar before its independence. It is not overly ornate as European Cathedrals
It was stated in the picture right in front the gate entering the cathedral that it opens at 2pm in the afternoon. But without any notice, they changed the visiting hour to 3pm. Just take note of that.
We had missed the services in English but were happy to enjoy a moment of reflection in this lovely church.
We noticed that the church has a lot if history and that it had recently undergone some renovation hence the more modern ceiling I guess. Beautiful church with really interesting friezes and sculptures with fabulous stained glass windows.
Well worth a look if you are in the area and need somewhere to rest from the hustle and bustle of the old town.
Nice toilet facilities outside. Seems to be a good relationship with the community which is lovely to see.
