“Open early, go for the dumplings and their seafood pancake!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2013

It is hard to find this place, once you've located the proper gil within Insadong. I've resorted to match the phone number to the poster on the wall and then memorize the Korean Script to finally locate it within Insadong-gil-8. The waitresses are all very friendly, and since we were there early, we had the place almost all to ourselves (we were there around 9:30ish AM).
We had their famous dumplings and the seafood pancake, and we ended up having to take home half of the pancake. The dumplings are huge and delicious, and the pancake is loaded with oysters, octopus, shrimps etc.
They also have a staff who speaks perfect Mandarin Chinese, for those who knows it, her Chinese is better than most of their staff's ability to communicate in English.

“Biggest dumpling soup dish and highly recommendable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 March 2013

You will not find the name "Sadong Myeonok" but only its KOREAN WRITING equivalent. Refer to the pictures I shared. It is located within one of the alleys( Insadong 8-Gil ) of Insadong. Landmark is the Insa Art Center which is at the corner of Insadong Gil and Insadong 8-Gil.

The dumpling is sooo big. This soup dish is really delicious and unique. You may request for the level of spiciness preferred. Another dish, pajeon is also good.

One of the "must" eat whenever you're in Seoul.

“Those enormous North Korean style dumplings are a must-have”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2010

Sadong Myeonok, an institution at Insa-dong is a busy, no-frills restaurant that serves deservedly popular mandu-jeongol, which consists of four giant homemade North Korean style dumplings cooked in casserole. It had all sorts of stuff in it; dumpling, kim-chi, 5-mushrooms, 5-vegetables, beef, noodles, even an egg. After letting everything simmer on your table for 5 minutes, mix everything and you have a stew-like concoction. The soup was rich, savory, and spicy. And, oh yes, the dumplings are enormous.

Though they are also specialised in bulgogi, one can also try their egg pancake panfried with marine products and green onions (haemul-pajeon).

You can’t miss an ajumma or two making mandu in the window. The service is fast, the food was cheap and above average, the portion was more than adequate. Sadong Myeonok is definitely a place to check out

“A must-go to this famous and informal restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2009

This is a famous, but friendly and unfancy restaurant in Insadong district which is famous for its large dumplings. On the menu they show it as 20,000 won for two people, but they'll serve you a half portion for 10,000. There's an English menu. If you haven't had Korean dumplings you should have them, although the other dishes on the menu are great, too.
