The hotel is located close to Myeongdong. The room was spacious and very clean. The breakfast was served in a small restaurant on the ground floor. Wifi was available in the room. On my opinion, this hotel was a good choice for exploring Seoul, specially for its reasonable price and pretty good service.

We stayed nine nights in mid May and were quite surprised by the cleanliness, with towels being changed every day. The staff could not do enough and were very polite. The location, near the markets and Shinsegai department store made it an ideal place to see the heart of Seoul. A very enjoyable stay. Did not find the walk uphill too difficult and I am retired!

Positive- good service from staff who speaks English, nice, clean, big rooms,

Negative - worst location for fast-paced travelers, it is far from the subway, far from shopping malls & any tourist destinations, and it really is literally uphill. It would really require extra effort from the time you get out of the subway up to the hotel.

Means of transport from/to airport:
Train/subway: will require transfer from Seoul station to Hoehyeon. This means taking several flights of stairs with more or less a total of 100 steps. Then a few minutes walk before you reach the uphill portion of the hotel. So carrying luggage would be back breaking.

Bus: bus stop is across a main road, it will require crossing the main road and walking a bit before you reach the uphill. This is less back breaking then taking the train. But if you need to leave for the airport during rush hour, make sure you allot extra 30mins waiting for the bus.

Taxi: from the airport is way too expensive.

Hotel service is good but I would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We've stayed in the 5th flr on our first 3nights then moved to 3rd flr on our last night. Both r...

If you are looking for a good, cheap hotel in Seoul, I highly recommend the Hill House Hotel. It is well located near the subway line and a number of the most popular attractions in Seoul.

I noticed someone complaining about having to walk up a hill? come on, really? It's not steep and if you have that much luggage, then catch a taxi the 100m from the subway station to the hotel. Taxi's are cheap.

some pictures and more info on my blog here

Pros
It's cheap. Not as cheap as a backpackers hostel, but it is one of the cheapest hotels in Seoul. If you book ahead you can pick up a room for less than $80 a night.
It's close to Namdaemun Market, Namsan Mountain, Hoehyeon station, Seoul Station, Cheonggyecheon Stream and Deoksugung Palace.
It's a moderate walk/short taxi ride to Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, Bukhansan Mountain, Han River, Prison History Museum, War Memorial of Korea and Building 63
Most of the staff speak English with a reasonable proficiency.
Free breakfast - Cereal, fried egg, toast, jam, orange juice.
Free wifi.
Rooms and hallways didn't smell of smoke.
Bathroom was large.
Free soft-drinks in the bar fridge.
Free toothbrush and toothpaste.
Free tea and coffee in the rooms.
Rooms were quiet during the day and at night.
The rooms were clean - with the exception listed in the con below.

Cons
We found a couple of very long hairs on the bed. Considering how clean the rest of the room was, I'm prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that the hair got stuck in the sheets while they were washed. We called the front desk to complain they they immediately sent someone up to change the bedding.
No view from the window (but for the price, who cares!).
The bar fridge wasn't very cold.

Other
The bed was quite firm.
The towels were medium size. Not as big as western towels, but bigger than standard Korean towels.
The window was very small, but since there was no view that doesn't matter.

Room Tip: get something on the 2nd floor so you don't have to wait for the elevator.

Location is the weakest, need to walk uphill. Quite inconvenience if you carry heavy luggage! Staff are friendly. Interior decoration is chic. Bathroom is very big and clean. If they put a bathtub curtain would be much better. In conclusion, it's better than expected!

Very nice and near new hotel. Location is very good. It's up a bit of a hill but if you plan your trip and climb it via the right streets it's not too bad. Breakfast was included and consisted of toast, eggs, jam and coffee. The staff were great and the rooms were nice. I would return.
