“Not just a love motel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 October 2013

Very well located near markets, shops, bus stop, and Seoul National University subway station. Like other hotels/motels surrounding the subway station, this is basically a so-called love motel catering to short stay visitors but it also welcomes regular tourists. My parents stayed here for 2 weeks. Upon arriving late at night, they paid for their entire stay and received a discount for cash. It's pretty good value for the budget traveler.

The room was smallish (although it had a bath tub that could seat 4!) but this was more than compensated for by the standard amenities. If you're just after somewhere to sleep after a day out and about, it's more than adequate. The staff were most obliging (and knew a little English) and the overall safety, privacy and service were superb. A whole range of shopping, eating, outdoor markets and even a sauna (jimjilbang) were nearby. Public transport by bus, taxi and subway were easy.

My parents liked the location and inexpensive rates and would stay there again if they were ever back in Seoul. It's true there are no closets, but they got by without them. Also, they had to get use to a singing room somewhere in the street that played songs on a loop at night. After a night or two it wasn't a problem. There is no view to speak of, but you could open the window. Free bottled water, coffee and juice drinks were in the fridge in the room and in the downstairs kitchen (which also had free ice cream).

Well, the "Hotel" is in a good spot. Just 100-200 meters away are a lots of small restaurants and such. Subway approx. 5 min. by foot. That was very convenient. They even picked me up with a cab (on their costs) as i was send to the wrong place by the airport information.
One thing though, the hotel is a former Love Hotel. Although it runs now as a usual hotel with very moderate costs, you can still see very much the former business. Hearts at the entrance and kind of dim light throughout the whole hotel.
If you want to stay in a more nonusual accomodation, thats the place. But if you're looking for a more usual hotel with windows, good english speaking staff and so on, i'd recommend a different place.

I should've took pictures. Although the price was very reasonable I expected more from the pictures. The room was very small, the bed took up almost the whole room. I was there for about a week and a half and had to live out of my suitcase the whole time because there was no place to put your stuff. No closet or dresser.

The TV had a variety of channels even ones in English. The hotel is 2 blocks from the subway which is good. The staff was very friendly too. Also what I did not know when booking was this is a "love hotel", people come in and rent rooms by the hour.

I wouldn't stay here again but if your on a budget and just looking for a place to sleep at night this is the place. Went to visit my husband in the military and wished there was openings in the on base hotel. Ooh well, I enjoyed my time.

Room Tip: Book the deluxe room for more space. Still not big enough though.

With nice staff, all the right facilities and great location, this was a good resting place in Seoul. Air condition, fancy decor, quiet sleep, bath tub and a great bed. The bathroom door was tinted glass and not seal shut, so quite intimate.. a factor worth taking into account for some. Expected value for money and you can book online.

I searched online for a hotel near Gwanak-gu and found The Fox. My son was living a couple blocks from there, and I asked him to check it out before I booked. He reported that the basic room was small, there was free ice cream and non-alcoholic drinks, and that it was basically a love motel, trying to expand to tourist business. While there are many similar motels in the immediate area, we booked at the Fox, since he had checked it out for us. Great decision. The manager and other staff were so helpful. The manager/ owner, Liam, would write out destination addresses for us in Korean to show the cab driver, when we went out. He even went out and hailed a cab for us at 6 a.m. in the pouring rain when we were going to the DMZ tour!
There is a kitchen / lounge area, where you can help yourself to coffee, cold drinks, packages of noodles and ice cream. There is also a toaster and a hotplate, and dishes. Sort of like a hostel kitchen. We bought bread and pastries at a nearby Paris Baguette and had breakfast in the lounge every morning. The lounge also has a computer and printer. Liam helped with printing out our return boarding passes.
There were 4 in our group, so we had 2 rooms. We booked the deluxe rooms for the extra space. There is a small private entrance area before you step into your room, where you can leave shoes & umbrellas. Slippers, toiletries, hair dryer, & housecoats were provided. The room had a large flat-screen tv and a computer. The room was not oversized at all, and lacks a closet of any sort. However, the bathroom had a large jacuzzi tub which was great after a long day of walking and touring. The decor was very different in our 2 rooms. One was decorated in a dark blue, the other was more romance-themed and bright read with hearts. The one small window didn't provide much of a view.
The subway stop is a couple blocks away. There are lots of shops, restaurants, bakeries, etc, including a huge multi-level store in the Egg Yellow building near the subway. If you go down the narrow side street that the Fox is on, there is a nondescript but very good Korean BBQ place. The owner stood by us and cooked our food for us, as she assumed we didn't understand how it worked. You can write messages on the wall by your table; our message is probably the only English one. Check it out.
Great service, safe & secure place to stay; excellent location.

Room Tip: Cabs seem to deliver you to landmarks, not street addresses, so don't be surprised if the cab ha...

The motel was a little difficult to find, partly my own fault as I booked it in a hurry and got confused between Seoul National Uni and Seoul National Uni of Education - they've both got subway stations on Line 2, but Seoul National Uni is further away from the Express Bus Terminal!

The reception staff spoke some English and were friendly and welcoming. There is also a cafe/common room area next to the reception desk where you can help yourself to (non-alcoholic) drinks free of charge.

The room was the main disappointment. The photos on the booking website looked lovely, but sadly, the reality was somewhat different (isn't it always?!) The room was very small, the bed took up most of the room with very little floor space remaining!

The bathroom was also small, but ok...apart from the door which was glass (only partly frosted!) and didn't close properly which resulted in one of us waiting outside in the corridor if the other wanted to use the loo!

The location was just ok - a few minutes walk from the subway station with the usual coffee shops, Korean restaurants etc close by. The immediate area around the motel is a little seedy, but definitely not unsafe.

Gangnam, Coex and Lotte World are on the same line and if you you want to travel north of the river, you can take Line 2 to Sadang and transfer to Line 4 which gets you to Itaewon, Myeongdong, Seoul Station fairly quickly.

My main complaint was the price - it's not in a central location, but we paid a city centre price for a small, poky room. I expected better for the price, I'm afraid....
