“Wonderful Service, Clean And Comfortable”
Reviewed 26 April 2014

I had a 19 hour layover in Seoul and was on crutches and the hotel staff couldn't have been nicer, the man on the front desk fussed around me making sure I was looked after and not having to carry anything or encountering closed doors. I couldn't have asked for more help and he did so with enthusiasm and care.

The room itself was not large but had everything I needed and the bed was one of the best I've slept in in a hotel and I had a great night's sleep. Breakfast was fine so in the end I would have been happy to spend more time there.

The location is close to a main metro station so easy to get to and the cost was reasonable.

All in all wherever I need to stay these are the things I need in a hotel to make my stay comfortable and I would have no hesitation staying again or recommending to anyone.

Hotel GS is a comfortable and well located hotel. It's near to the metro stations and not far from the airport bus stop. There are plenty of mini marts and restaurants in the area, too. The room was nice and had everything you would want. The staff were pleasant and helpful during my stay in South Korea.

Room Tip: The double room was a nice size.

Booked this hotel based on all reviews and wasnt disappointed! Excellente location and comfy rooms.
Staff was friendly but limited english.
Bathroom is strange as you take a shower and there is no partition so water gets everywhere, make sure its the last think you do before going to bed.
Its easy to walk to most parts of the city or take the tube at Jongno sam Ga station, with 3 different lines.
Room was on the small side but had everything you need for a great stay!
Breakfast was very average to poor, but for free its a plus.
The directions to the hotel are very easy to follow based on previous reviews, for me was spot on!
Highly recommended as value for money! Seoul is an expensive city.

Room Tip: Room 407 was good with no view but high floor and a window which opens for fresh air.

The numerous TA reviews of this hotel helped tremendously. Couldn't rave more about this hotel but would like to give some tips which were not mentioned.

Getting to the Hotel
Since I arrived at 4 pm, I do not look forward to jostling with the locals going home after work at Seoul Station so I took the train to Gimpo International Airport. However, I took the expensive AREX by mistake but fret not because the AREX also makes a stop at Gimpo at 1500 won. Switch to Line 5 and you willl be seated all the way to Jongno sam ga station at 1550 won. Look out for Exit 1 but a word of caution because you need to go through 3 levels to reach street level which includes 1 flight of stairs immediately after alighting from the train and a 5 minute walk past some shops separating the 2 flights of escalators to reach street level. This means you still have to carry your luggage up 1 flight of stairs which can be tough when you take the train back to Incheon. Exit 14 couldnt really be seen at all.
Once exiting from the escalator, make a U-turn and walk straight down to the traffic light junction where you will see Uniqlo on your left. Standing at this junction, you will see Shinhan Bank on the opposite side of the road. Cross the road walking towards the bank and head straight down the road. There are in total of 4 alleys before reaching the hotel. After the 1st alley, you will see Seoul Cinema and Starbucks on your right. Walk past GS convenience store and 3 alleys later, you will see GS Hotel signboard and you know you are on the right track.

Upon my return to Incheon Airport, I chose to take the Airport Limousine 6002 near MacDonald's across the road because carrying heavy luggage over the flight of stairs is not my cup of tea. If you don't have sufficient 10000 won credit in your T-money card, you can also pay cash.

The Hotel
I stayed a total of 5 nights; one in a double bedded room and the other in an excecutive room without the jacuzzi meant for 3. The double bedded room is sufficiently spaced for 2 but I decided to go for more comfort by taking a bigger room. Even though there were only 2 of us in the executive room, supplies were provided for 3 pax. For a moderate hotel, the bed, pillows and duvet are heavenly soft. I always have difficulty sleeping on the 1st night at any hotel even a 5 star hotel. The TV channels are just so many and you can even watch CNN and other internation channels. The international adapter I brought could not be used in the room but you can always ask for one at the reception for a refundable 5000 won deposit.
The hotel provides luggage storage if you travel out of Seoul but of course you need to come back to stay with the hotel if you choose to do that.
Breakfast is at a very small area next to the hotel front desk, just 5 tables. When it is fully occupied, you can sit on the chairs provided at the reception and wait for the guests to finish. Though simple, it is sufficient to keep you from going hungry.

Around the Hotel
During the day, there are various food kiosks located outside the hotel selling roasted calamari, chestnuts, chinese dumplings etc. By sun set, eating stores covered by red tarpaulin will be set up. We ate at the store recommended by a TA contributor. Do not expect prices to be cheap as it costs 12000 won a dish onwards. Taste was alright but the lady boss was certainly very friendly. I showed her the photographs taken by the contributor and she was so happy that she took out her smartphone to take snapshots of it.

Although safety for ladies is not to be worried about, there are men who drink late into the night and we unfortunately met these men on a few occasions which included one peeing in the alley and the other in the train trying to hook me up. So ladies, you really got to play safe.

Jongno sam ga station sits at the intersection of 3 lines (red, purple and blue) which makes travelling convenient. I will not hesitate to stay there again for the price and location.

Forever grateful to the other tripadvisor reviewers who left many tips and made locating the hotel and getting around so much easier than if we had to figure it all out ourselves.

We were very pleased with the location as major shopping areas like Myeongdong and Ewha University are easily accessible. Also turns out our coach transfers to faraway attractions like Everland, the DMZ and Jisan ski resort were all within a few train stops which we were particularly grateful for because it meant we could afford rising a little later and getting extra winks before a long day.

Reaching Hotel GS
- If travelling by airport limousine bus 6002, the bus will alight in front of a Lotteria and near exit 15. Facing Lotteria, head left and turn right after Shin Han Bank. Walking along the street you will pass a cinema and GS convenience store. At the (4th alley?) there will be a sign indicating Hotel GS. Someone has uploaded a picture of this signage in the traveller photos. Return stop is at the Mcdonalds opposite. Frequency of buses runs every 15-20mins.
- By train, nearest station Jongno-3(sam)ga, nearest exit 14 in front of ShinHan Bank was still closed when we arrived so we used Exit 1 (has escalators if you have bulky luggage). Make a u-turn, when reach the main traffic light junction turn right. Shinhan Bank is opposite. Cross the road and head to the street left of Shinhan bank. No more traffic crossings required. Walk along until you spot the hotel signage along one of the alley entrances on your right. Exit 2 and 15 are stairs only.

Some sightseeing tips (some gleaned from fellow reviewers):
- Everland daily Express Bus (prior reservation to be made one day in advance via phone --> hotel front desk can help with this) leaves Cityhall station at 9.30am every day
- DMZ Tour booked with JoongAng Tours located at Lotte Hotel (Euljiro 1(il)-ga , exit 7 or 8), highly recommended for being one of the very few agencies we found that don't force you to waste time visiting silly jem or jinseng factories afterward
- Lotte Premium outlets --> Go to Hapjeong station (Line 2) exit 2. Immediately outside is a bus stop. Take bus 2200. After 30-40mins travelling will reach a massive red brick building which is the Lotte premium outlet mall.
- Changdeokgung Palace --> Angguk station (Line 3) Exit 3. Walk straight for about 5 mins. This palace holds a secret garden which is only accessible via a 1.5hr guided tour. Be mindful there are only 2 English tours daily at 11.30am and 1.30pm and only one Mandarin tour available at 12.30pm. Korean tours are available every hour from 10am to 3pm.

Following another member's advice we decided to take the executive room with 3 beds and an in-room jacuzzi. Glad we did because it afforded us so much more space it almost felt luxurious (for a budget hotel). If you can afford to top up a little more for the executive I would suggest you do. At S$140 it was cheaper and more comfortable than the smaller standard rooms of other top-rated hotels in Seoul. Some downsides to the room however include no closet space just a couple of hangers hooked on the wall, no proper shower stall in the small bathroom but we had the large jacuzzi as an alternative place to shower.

Simple breakfast is available every morning from 7am to 10am. Someone previously mentioned they were allowed to bring the breakfast food to their rooms on a tray but the staff told my bf all food had to be consumed in the dining area when he tried to bring some toast up to me.

Highly recommended for its price & functionality!

Room: The hotel price is very affordable and we had a very comfortable stay! We went in winter and never once felt cold in the room with its heated floor, heated bed, warm toilet seats with bidet, shower with good pressure and ample hot water and double-insulated window. Hotel provides ginseng shampoo, shower gel, toner, moisturizer, hairdryer and comb. You need to bring your own toothbrush though. There are 3 canned drinks and 2 bottles of water in the minibar which are complimentary and replenished daily. Initially I was worried about the small room size for double room after reading reviews. For our room 404 (double room), there is ample room to put and open our luggage. The only drawback of the room is there is no separate dry area in the bathroom. The shower head is directed above the bathroom sink, which makes bathing somewhat awkward at times. The toilet bowl area will also be wet after a shower. However, I am willing to overlook this point since the floor dries up quite fast in like 1-2h with the ventilation fan in the bathroom.

Breakfast: Simple breakfast is served fr 7-10am and its a delight because 80% of the hotels in Seoul do not serve complimentary breakfast (based on my research when I was hunting for hotels). Although the breakfast spread is not elaborate, it is very adequate to fill our tummies. We simply loved the toasts!

Location: It is conveniently located between 2 train stations as stated in previous reviews. We arrived via airport bus in winter at night so locating the hotel with luggage in the cold is pretty difficult. Managed to find it after 15min. It is located near GS convenience store. After passing by GS convenience store, continue to walk straight, passing by 3 alleys. You will see a GS hotel sign at the 3rd alley. Once you know where it is located, travelling to and fro the hotel is a breeze!

On the whole, we are very satisfied with the hotel for the price we paid and will not hesitate to stay at GS hotel should we return to Seoul again!

Room Tip: We stayed at level 4 but I thought that the rooms on level 1 are very big and convenient.

For a budget hotel, the location is great, walking distance of <10mins to 2 mrt stations (exit 15 Jongno-3(sam) ga, exit 4 Euljiro-3(sam) ga). You can use both lines depending on where you are headed. We had the executive suite with 3 single beds which was clean, with heated floors, heated beds, heated toilet seats, free high-speed wifi, a computer with internet, a big screen LED TV with English movie channels & free simple breakfast. There is a twin power socket on the table but because our universal adaptor was so big, we could only use one. So, we ended up charging our phones, tablets and cameras using the USB ports on the CPU. The breakfast was simple with toast, jam/butter, 2 types of cereal, milk, coffee, tea, bananas, korean cup noodles. It's good if you have to start the day early and can't get any breakfast outside. The neighbourhood is filled with hardware shops and wholesale jewelers. So, it's really quiet at night when they close for the day. We are usually back at the hotel around 12am and the area looks fine, just very quiet. There is a GS25(family) mart a short 20-30m down the street and a line of street hawker stalls throng the sides of the road adjacent to the hotel entrance. The reception was manned by polite and helpful staff who helped us make calls to the travel agency for our ski trip. I would recommend to friends and family and would probably return to this hotel again.

Room Tip: Since the prices are so affordable, it wouldn't hurt to pay more for a bigger room. You will get...
