“REVISIT: BEST Service & Location BUT Expensive Restaurant & Small Room”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

I visited Westin Chosun once again. The location is the best (all those business district and tourist spots are within reach). I have never had any better service anywhere else. Service is the best and very professional and attentive. Even the doorman and concierge remembered my name and room numbers from day 1 and always try to accommodate the comfort every moment. Bakery shop on the basement level offers very good bread and patisserie at reasonable price. Food is superb, but overall unbelievably expensive. Gym and swimming pool are simply the state of art. I'd like to emphasise that the whole facilities are quite outdated except restaurant, lobby, gym and swimming pool. The gym/sauna staff is kind but garners much more attention to the members over hotel guest, which is understandable. Sauna is available only to the guest staying at executive levels. The hotel is reasonably priced for the location, but you'd find it reasonable to go out to eat. Oh, the traditional Korean garden is very beautiful. Hidden gem of the city life. I wasn't quite happy with the cleaness of my room. Found the bed skirt was stained with coffee but wasn't replaced while I stayed there for 10 days. Toiletries and amenity are quite poor overall. For budget tourist who would like to stay this area, I would like to recommend either Hotel Shin Shin or Fraser Place Namdaemoon.

Room Tip: SPG member can stay at higher floor (much quieter and better views). Make sure to register SPG and t...

This was may second stay at The Westin Chosun Seoul. Had to wait until 1500 hrs for room readiness just like my first stay in March this year. Hotel location is just near Myong Dong street with various tourist attraction and nice restsurants. Good place to stay except you have to wait the room to be ready at 1500 hrs sharp.

I stayed there with my husband for 2 nights in December 2013. We easily arrived there from the airport by the KAL limo bus in the early morning. As early check-in would require a half day room charge, we chose to walk around the myeongdong area where you could find plenty of restaurants, cosmetic shops and boutiques, as well as the Lotte Department Store. The room was very clean and well equipped, though it's a bit old but the hotel has done a very good job in the maintenance. We basically took taxi throughout the trip. It's convenient and the fare was reasonable too.

My partner and I stayed at the Westin Chosun in late May for 3 nights. The Westin Chosun is well located for visiting the palaces, the food market and North Seoul Tower and a short taxi ride from the cafes, shops, bars and nightlife of Itaewong. Seoul Station (for the airport express) is 5 mins in a cab. The front desk staff are very helpful in arranging restaurants and writing addresses in Korean e.g. restaurants (very useful to show to cab drivers). The pool is very nice and spa looked very good.

Being part of the Starwood group you can only expect the best and the hotel offers high standards.
I must admit the hotel is very nice with very friendly staff and good service. And the location is amazing which is perfect for sightseeing or business.
Being in central Seoul, it is hard to get a nice view and our room did not have a view, but I rarely spend enough time in the hotel room to worry about that.
If there one negative aspect of the hotel is the breakfast and restaurants which are over prised (especially breakfast) and are actually very average from the point of value for money. Just to clarify the food is good but not good enough to justify the high price tag.

This is my 2nd time here and 2nd review so i won't repeat what i mentioned before. WIll however note the stuff i didn't notice the 1st time i was here

So i took the KAL bus from the airport again and it was a 45min ride, right to the hotel lobby, simple enough.Check-in was smooth as usual and immediately you can tell the service is excellent with all the smiles, greetings and bowing.Got a lowish floor on 8th and had no view, pity

So i notice the moment you have your room keycard activated in the lift it immediately activitates the floor button without you touching it, cool

Went straight to the gym after and it was great as usual, but there was a high fee of USD30 to use the sauna. that's steep

Also noticed there's no korean restaurant in the hotel, strange. Room service was fine, but the fruit platter was ordinary - none of those high-end super sweet fruits that japan and korea are known for

Also noticed you just need to send your laundry before 2pm and you can have it back the same day as regular service, that's faster than most

Unfortunately this hotel has no shower stall, just the safety hazard bathtub. And there's a tv volume in the toilet like some hotels, but strangely, it doesn't turn on to what the tv is showing, you have to tune the channels yourself

The 2nd hi-tech touch i notice is that there's a sensor outside the door where they place the newspapers, so inside your room there's a "newpapers is here" sign that comes on. pretty cool

We stayed at this hotel for my wife's birthday. We traveled with our 2 year old daughter from Japan and it was our first time staying at this property but not our first time in Seoul.

Prior to booking this hotel, we were booked at the Lotte Hotel, but after I had found a low fare on expedia, I contacted SPG's Best Rate Guarantee staff and got a great rate. I believe their rack rate is 380,000won plus about 20% in taxes and services fees but we got the 2 nights for less than 500,000 plus we received a 10% tax refund as well. This was a very low rate, as the usual discounted rates are much higher. Considering this, I thought the stay was very good value.

The lobby of this hotel is very nice, but there isn't a lounge area. There is a place called "The Circle" but I believe you need to purchase food or drinks there to use the facilities. As with all Westins, all of the public areas smelled like white tea which was excellent.

We stayed in room 902 which was on the SPG floor and faced the temple. It was a nice room, and the bed was quite large for Korean standards. The bathroom was very small for a 5 star though and I was surprised that the show was inside the bathtub and not a separate area.

The carpets had a couple stains here and there, and the furniture was starting to look dated but not a a big deal. The carpet was soft and lush, and on top of that, the slippers they provided were amazing! The TV that you see in most advertisements has been updated and they have a very large TV in the rooms now.

There was no rental phone provided in the room as other reviews have said but there was a note saying they are available in the lobby.

They only provided 2 capsules for coffee each day. Unlike what I have seen in other guests photos though, they literally only left us 2 capsules instead of letting us choose from an assortment. They provide 2 bottles of water each day but someone had come by to offer us more the 2nd day.

The first day we were there they provided an evening turn down service but the 2nd day they didn't even though I put on the "clean up room" sign.

The concierge was very helpful though. They arranged for a complimentary cake to be delivered to our room for my wife's birthday and left a card as well. They also provided us with helpful information on places to eat and things to do. Thank you to Katherine who helped us out via email as well.

Location is great but be warned that Seoul in general is not stroller friendly. To get to Myeongdong shopping is quite easy if you can get up and down stairs with ease. If you have a stroller or require an elevator, you have to take a very round about way to get there passed the Lotte hotel.

I think the hotel doesn't seem to pay attention to small details and are rather inconsistent with their service in general though. Even while reading these reviews, it seems the representative who responds puts the exact same response which leads me to believe that the actual feedback is not being read.

Would I stay here again? Yes, but only if it remains as a Westin so I can earn SPG points. I heard rumors that they may no longer be a Westin in the near future and am curious to see what happens.
