“Superb hotel”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

Stayed here for two nights on business.
The room was excellent and I have to comment on the HUGE numbers of international plug power outlets all around the room including by the bed. Was really impressed with that given how many hotels fail in this regard.

The hotel gym is huge and has a great sauna. They have gym clothes you can borrow which is also really handy. While they dont have a power press, they do have lots of free weights and plenty of machines. They also have a great pool, which seems very popular with the children.

The hotel breakfast is pricey (41000) but thats cheaper than the Intercon and the staff were uber attentive... I loved it. I also had room service one night and the service and quality were excellent. They also have a very nice bakery.

Check in and check out were very efficient and the location is also very good.

I stayed for 2 days on business some 4 months ago and have very little recollection of the hotel, which is good and bad.

Good because everything was fine, with a smooth check-in and clean rooms. The lobby was grand in an understated way. The room had a strange built-in design which made it feel small, but it was perfectly adequate. Breakfast was a bit of a scrum, although the view is soothing if you snag the right table. Distance from the city is a bit of an issue, especially if you prefer to venture out of the hotel for dining, or squeeze a little shopping time after meetings.

However, nothing was memorable and I am sad to say that I struggled to recall the name of the hotel when writing this review. Perhaps I travel too much and one hotel blurs into another, but upping the WOW factor for world-weary business travellers would not go amiss.

been there on a business trip to Seoul and stayed another 2 nights over the weekend.

good hotel, clearly more for business trips. Loved the JJ bar and the life band. Clearly a big asset to keep me in the hotel at nighttime ;-)
Had some really good times there .
Very comfortable beds and had no complains.

Personal very friendly and helpful . Will come back .

From getting out of the cab to the early check-in (1 hour wait for 1230 check-in)...customer service at this hotel exceeds most others. Everything was great - room, stuffed animal ("JJ" the horse) for my son at check-in, bags brought up quickly, etc. The hotel has a shuttle that takes you to Itaewon (cabs start at 5K from the hotel VS 3K elsewhere so use the shuttle). During the 1 hour wait we decided to have a drink in the lobby bar...prices are crazy high (22 USD for a beer) so I had coffee instead. The grounds and hotel are in great condition. We made several more reservations at this hotel for various weekends throughout the year.

One small issue was no crib provided, despite one being promised...in no way influenced us to not stay here again...but was an oversight.

Perhaps if you pull up in a black limo, they're nicer. We didn't, arriving from the airport via metro, and while the property is quite close to a metro stop, the Hyatt's self-promoted beautiful grounds (basically a pool area) allow no access through, so we had to drag our bags around the back many hundreds of yards (past numerous employees on their cigarette breaks who offered no sympathy nor, needless to say, assistance). This seems all the stranger as the property backs up to one of the nicest art museums in the city ... but it's all steep hills, 6 foot fences, and cruddy parking lots. Finally arriving at the "grand" entrance, nobody lifted a finger for us.

Main areas are on the grand meant-to-impress scale, the rooms are fine, all have nice views. Shuttle service available down the hill to Itaewon, and there is a city bus stop close by and a few restaurants to explore, but the Hyatt seems to have a clientele that doesn't mind the astounding costs at the on-property places. My wife and I decided it was a cartoonish version of "affluence."

The concierge response to my asking if there might be a DVD or two to borrow for the provided DVD players was that I was welcome to go buy some, and then bring them back and play them. Condescending was the overall residual impression after staying here two days. Disappointed, and we've stayed at some very diverse Hyatt properties.

I travel a lot for business, and usually split my nights between Hyatts, SPG, and Hilton hotels. So far this year, I have spent more than 40 nights in more than 10 Hyatts around the world, but the Grand Hyatt Seoul has to be the worst Hyatt - if not hotel - that I've come across in the world so far.

I fell and skinned both knees this morning, so I asked the club floor concierge for five or six bandaids. Her response were that the maximum number of complimentary bandaids she can give me is two, and that if I want more, she can direct me to the closest convenience store.

As an elite Diamond member I was shocked, but come to think of it, any decent hotel - or person - should be willing and happy to hand over a few bandaids to someone who's hurt him or herself, regardless of whether that person has elite status or not. This is basic hospitality - if not basic "humanity" - for lack of a better term.

The hotel itself is not bad. It is a very large, so it can lack the more personalized touch you might feel at the Park Hyatt Tokyo, the Hyatt Regency Hakone, or the Andaz Shanghai, but service is usually decent. One of the oldest and most venerable of international hotels in Seoul, but the rooms are clean and the views overlooking Seoul, very nice.

The appalling service I received this morning though, is a clear sign of decaying training if not perhaps something deeper, and suffice it to say, I will definitely not be coming back to this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the river.

This place will not wow you with your room. BUT, the lobby, lounge, exterior, bar area upstairs, view from room and lobby is AWESOME. The club downstairs is always packed and having one event or another and the staff is super friendly as is the Korean way. All in all this is a great location for travelers except it is far from a subway stop. There is a great convenience store 250 feet away from hotel so that saves money when one wants some good korean snacks, junk food, or soju / beer. There is also a secret about this location that, since I lived in a house next to it, I can share here. If one leaves the hotel and walks to the convenience store the road that passes down hill to the left of the store (as you are looking at the store front) leads to one of the best kimbap (the seaweed wrapped rice and stuff) shops in Seoul. Tiny little place with a tiny little woman working there. It is only 100 feet from the convenience store so it is also very close to the hotel.

Room Tip: Visit club downstairs Buy snacks at convenience store short walk from hotel not in hotel shop Eat...
