“The most unpleasant front-desk receptionist I've yet encountered...”
Reviewed 14 December 2010

Taking the red-eye flight from Hong Kong, I arrived at the Grand Intercontinental at 6am in the morning. Knowing beforehand that this might cause a problem, my assistant requested for an early check-in and asked that the front-desk to be aware of my very early morning arrival. However, when I pulled up to the lobby I was met with a very sleepy and irritable front-desk that did not acknowledge my presence. I finally walked up to one of the receptionists and, without bothering to greet me, she used an exasperated tone to scoff at me in Korean and say "There aren't rooms available. How could you come so early and expect a room? Even if you requested an early check-in it's not until 10:30. There's nothing I can do. You'll have to wait."

Having been in flight all night, I was tired and exhausted but felt so humiliated by the first person I met in this hotel. I find this type of attitude and behavior unacceptable. Needless to say, this initial experience at the Grand Intercontinental Hotel dampened the remainder of my stay in Seoul and made me feel very unwelcome, though I was a paying guest. Had I known of the lack of training in front-desk staff, I would not have chosen this hotel. However, I thought that the Intercontinental brand would have ensured the highest level of service quality. For future trips to Seoul, I will be avoiding the Grand Intercontinental and opt for the Grand Hyatt or smaller boutique hotels with much better service.

A good place, really. Plenty of places to go around - there are actually 2 Intercontinental hotels joined, Grand and COEX. A bit far from historic center, or at least so I was told by consierge. Actually, no sightseeing. Very nice restaurants - both Korean and European. Good coffee - you seldom find one in Korea, unfortunately. Good room, great view. Calculate your time going to airport - it can be 1.5 hours, but can be 2.5 as well. A very nice small park nearby. A funny shopping mall 100 m away.

I stayed at the Intercontinental for several days to conduct business centered mostly south of the Han River. The location is excellent for relatively quick meetings in the south of Seoul and the hotel's central location means that shopping and dining are only a few steps away. The hotel's staff were excellent in helping coordinate some complicated travel logistics. The room itself was quite comfortable and provided plenty of space to unwind after a long day and also space to prepare for meetings. The only grumble is that the internet charge is a bit steep (25,000 won per day). And if you're relaxing in the lounge, a shot of whiskey is cheaper than a bottle of water.

I stay for first date when visit to seoul when drag my luggage, Doorman hurried to keep my luggage for check in that very quick and early time (9.30 am) that made me comfort to early sleep and refresh. but outside tower looked old and dirty when compared other such as Park hyatt , intercon coex. I stay @ club junior suite at 27 floor with view to see COEX complex (G20
summit )and view of king tomb and beautful temple that very spacious , goose feather bed sheet , large TV and stereo.with compliment one apple and banana. but the carpet along way from elevator to my room is very old and bad smell , it time for change.
At the club , you use the key card then you will see smart and beautiful smile staff with helpful . food in club loungue is outstanding quality with premium smoked salmon and fresh fruit , chocolate snack in afternoon. club lounge is large many table sofa TV for leisure suitable for group meeting. closed @ 10 pm free wifi but very low speed.
Conclusion , good and valuable but need to renovate and upgrade wifi system.

This hotel was conveniently located for my needs on this trip. It benefits from having a major subway station right below it, and not a long walk away, shaving precious minutes over the course of a stay. The subway line is Seoul's outer ring line, which has the benefit of frequent service and of connecting to the majority of the other lines at some point, allowing 1-transfer itineraries. If headed north of the river in the morning, I recommend going counterclockwise, as the trains will be much less crowded that way.
The Grand is also the penultimate stop on its Korean Air airport limousine route; Korean Air and Asiana passengers can alternatively check-in at the adjacent city air terminal and take that bus instead; prices are 15,000 won in either case.
There are countless eating and shopping option in the adjacent COEX mall
The hotel itself is posh, the rooms spacious and up-to-date. It is relatively generous with upgrades to junior suites for IC Ambassador members, but Club upgrades are hard to come by. Without it, budget for expensive breakfast and internet access fees.

I went there for my business meeting.
By walk, it takes more than 10min from the nearest subway station. If you take a texi to hotel the price would be 2,400 won (basic price)

Back to hotel,
Room was cozy and view was outstanding! and people who work at there, are so kind.
And I attended my business meeting. The venue was really huge and well prepared, furthermore food was great.

Stayed here for a conference and a bit of sightseeing. The hotel is modern and the rooms are large and well equipped and mine was newly decorated. The maid service is very attentive (like having someone about to clear up after me!!). The gym is really good - large and well equipped and there is also a driving range. the rest of the leisure facilities have a Korean take on a spa - a large bath area and lots of rooms for relaxation etc - never come across this before, but pretty neat nonetheless. the Concierge was very helpful, arranging tours and taxis etc.

The main downside is the charges - internet, the bars etc - it can be very expensive if you are not careful - the breakfast - with tax etc added was W40,000 - about £23. For is much cheaper in the attached COEX mall - or in the surrounding streets
