“Everything was just great!”
Reviewed 27 February 2014

I stayed at the hotel during my trip in November 2013 and booked the "Business room" for a single person. The staff were very nice and helpful and checking in was a breeze!

Location: It is 3 to 4 walking distance from the "airport bus stop" but first timer may find it difficult to navigate as there is a need to turn into a small road that leads to the hotel. Location is very central, near to the subway and located on a stretch of eateries. Oh btw, there is a "Miss Lee cafe" right opposite the hotel.

Room: The Business room is for single traveller – room has a queen size bed and would be comfortable for 2 pax. Room is very cozy and the bathroom is huge and comes with comprehensive toiletries.

This is 1 of the few hotels which I am impressed with. Highly recommend my friends and family to book with this hotel!

Stayed for six (6) nights at Metro Hotel in Myeongdong.

For its location and accessibility, their rates is fair enough. My husband and I took the limo bus (@10,000 KRW per pax) from Incheon Airport to the hotel and it was just an easy 5 - 10 minutes walk from the Myeongdong bus stop. We requested them to arrange for our transfer to Incheon Airport on our departure date. (Taxi was @ 65,000 KRW)

Smacked right in Myeongdong area, the location is perfect. Being there during winter, we just could easily drop-off our shopping loots in our hotel room and head back outside again to grab a meal &/or just immerse ourselves back in the fun & cold breeze outside. Notably, we were not in anyway, bothered by any noise outside. If my memory serves me right, we were in the 5th or 6th floor.

The staff were mostly friendly and speak good english. Their personalized service tops! They even called us immediately after the super typhoon wrecked havoc to our country in November just to make sure we were safe and sound. Ms. Sky Song, the hotel's Sales & Marketing Manager, is also very warm and friendly. We met her during one of our breakfasts in the hotel and she surely made our stay more pleasant.

Breakfast was so-so and could definitely stand some improvement. We got the deluxe accommodation and we were happy and comfortable with it.

We're definitely coming back to this hotel on our next trip to Seoul!

Booked Metro based on the reviews, reasonable room rates and its close proximity to food & shopping within Myeongdong. Hotel is easily accessible via Airport Limo Bus 6015 and Seoul Metro Subway. We stayed here for 4 nights in Jan.

Service was good but could be better. The staff's English was quite good as well. They also provide complimentary breakfast (limited choice) and humidifiers available for free use. Individual air-con/heater available in room is another reason why we stayed here (Ibis' rooms were stuffy when we last stayed there). Were gifted free samples from Etude House upon check-in and check-out (for ladies only).

1) We were not notified of any construction/renovation going on until I saw a message on their Facebook about this. Only when we asked did they admit the hotel is undergoing renovation. My cousin could hear the reno noise in her Deluxe room but we didn't hear any in the Std B room.

2) Absolutely no early check-in - They give the standard reply that rooms will not be ready before 3pm....but when we are willing to pay, the rooms become available for early check-in (they wanted to charge 1 night's rate but we managed to bargain for 50% off for check-in at 9am)

3) We asked for a jumbo cab to bring us to Seoul station (to take the AREX to airport) but the front desk lady didn't inform the cab company properly ended up the cab driver kept using vulgar language on us (my husband knew this from his korean friends) when he knew we were only heading to Seoul Station instead of Incheon Airport.

4) Insufficient electrical sockets and table space, wash basin height lower than usual, not sure if carpet floors were cleaned well (saw a screw at 1 corner and still there when we check-in again after going ski resort for 2 nites). I was so tempted to change hotel after spending 2 nights in Holiday Inn Hotel Alpensia.

Room rates considered one of the most reasonable for hotels within the Myeongdong shopping area. Nothing could beat the location as Metro is in the middle of here and there. You can easily find food right below and shopping just a few steps away (1 money changer a few steps away offered very good rates). However, I'll likely try other hotels (The Grand, Savoy, Nine Tree) within the area the next time I visit.

Room Tip: Hotel currently undergoing renovation. Do ask for a room away from the noise if you intend to stay i...

Metro Hotel is a really good value in that the hotel is affordable, provides breakfast and has everything you need. The location is great, especially if you want to go shopping. Plenty of restaurants and cafes are within walking distance. And there is a subway stop very close by. The breakfast had an excellent selection and the local option rotated in that it was different every morning. The hotel also has a laundry room which contains a washing machine and dryer. It opens at 8am and is very convenient. Drinking water is provided every day in the room and at breakfast.

Even though it is a non-smoking hotel (you are reminded frequently to not smoke in the room and in bed) it is clear that someone/people used to smoke there and this is counteracted by extremely pungent air freshener, which smelled a little bit gross to a sensitive nose.

But overall I would recommend this hotel for a city trip to Seoul. I enjoyed my time here.

- First time in Seoul - stayed for 7 nights in early Jan 2014.

- Getting there - Took the airport express from incheon, transferring at honggik university to get to eujiro-1 station ~4000krw (cheapest option). Exit at no. 5 elevators and walk diagonal left under the triangle shaped building and turn right, hotels on your left.

- Checkin - Booked a standard room but was surprisingly upgraded to deluxe at checkin due to renovations being undertaken on the standard floor. Also received a bunch of étude house samples and T-money card and recharge service which was incredibly useful and convenient.

- Breakfast - good variety, everything you need to start the day. I would suggest they peel the hard boiled eggs though as that gets messy, especially if you don't have clean hands or a wet tissue!

- Rooms - spacious and clean, a little dark though and would've preferred a large king size bed over a double and single but can't complain. Also the bathtub was easily clogged every time I washed my hair (much to the annoyance of my partner!)

- Service - the girls at reception were impeccable and spoke perfect English, always greeting you as you leave and arrive. Also booked a palace/secret garden tour for us as the website reservations were in korean, and they knew where everything in myeongdong was (din tai fung moved across the road!). The doormen service could've been improved though (if you see guests approaching the door, you should be heading towards the door and getting ready to open it, not wait for them to get to the door, then watch them open it and help them close it haha), nothing big, but seeing as that's what they get paid for.

- Room service - for most of the week, the maids made up our room as soon as we left for breakfast (9-9.30ish). Hence when we came back down to brush our teeth/get ready to leave, they were still making up our rooms. So had to wait for them to finish, meaning they'd do a rushed job. Probably explains why they never refilled our toothpaste or tea/coffee. Had to always remember to put the change sheets sign on the bed before heading to breakfast!

Overall though, I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again if I'm ever back in Seoul, the above were just little nitpicky things that could very easily be fixed. Thanks Sky and team for a wonderful stay.

We stayed for 4 nights. The location is fantastic and so convenient. Sky and the rest of the staff were very helpful and accommodating. I loved being able to walk to most things or take the underground. Sky also offered some wonderful suggestions on touring around town. We took a tour to the DMZ and Panmunjeom that departed about 5 minutes from the hotel. We also visited the Korean War Memorial. I would highly recommend staying here.

My fiance and I stayed here for several nights following a work trip to Busan in June 2012. We wanted to see Seoul. With limited time in the city, we wanted to stay near the sights and shopping, but not spend a fortune. This hotel was perfect. Very affordable, great location (walkable to all the sights we wanted to see - Insadong, palaces, Cheonggyecheon, Myeongdon, N. Seoul Tower...), helpful staff that spoke English and a good Western breakfast (free!).

We wanted a non-smoking room, but only smoking was available. However, they air out the room for you and though there was a slight lingering smell of smoke, it was not bad at all. The room was kind of small, but so what? We aren't there to stay in the room all day!
