Pharaoh Egypt Hotel
Ranked #66 of 143 Hotels in Cairo
Reviewed 20 April 2010

I stayed at the Pharaoh Egypt hotel for one night after a luxury 5 star Nile Cruise and after spending two nights at the Grand Pyramids Hotel in Giza so it was a total disappointment for me! The staff is really kind and helpful although the hotel itself is run down and for USD 65.00 a night i think it is highly over priced. Nothing fancy in the room it is pretty basic with a hard bed a small tv with only Arabic Channels. The bathroom left alot to be desired, chipped tiles and it just had a boring and tired look. There is no maintenance on the hotel and my room had a balcony with a rusted door that didnt open fully just for me to squeeze myself through to the balcony of a back street area so basically no views whatsoever. The food ofcourse is much much cheaper compared to the other bigger hotels and if you are more of a high class traveller who loves their luxury then this is a definate no no for you but if you are on a budget and are just looking for a place to sleep then it should be ok. After all i suppose you get what you pay for so that is my opinion on the hotel.
On the other hand the staff was great and helpful, food was OK and there were little details in the room like towles folded as swans etc etc and room service was good and efficient. The staff at Pharaoh Egypt actually go an extra mile to ensure your stay with them is comfortable!

The Pharaoh Egypt is a cheap and simple hotel. Located in the Mohandissen area of Giza, Cairo, by the main thoroughfare of Sphinx Square, as a previous reviewer noted, it is not really a place to stay if you wanted to be in walking distance of restaurants, bars and shops. You will need a taxi to go anywhere (except there is a great little Japanese restaurant tucked away.. if you leave the hotel and turn left its a few doors down.. try the fried chicken!)
The hotel is basic, and for the price i paid then it was fine. Breakfast is nothing special, the cleaner was efficient and everyday the reception staff helped us with a new problem we had, whether tourist recommendations, laptops problems or where to go for alcohol!!
Stay here for a cheap, no frills, just need a bed and shower short kind of stay in the city!
I did not go to the swimming pool or cafe upstairs so would not want to comment on those areas... sorry!

All rooms have private baths with showers, air conditioning, modern televisions, a sitting area and new style phones (most phones in the three star hotels I stayed in were very antiquated, except for the Longchamps). The beds are comfortable, the walls are brightly enameled, and curtains and bedding are new. In fact, I found the rooms to be better then some of the five star hotels I stayed in while in Egypt!

I would like to point out that the Hotel is a three star hotel. It lacks fancy restaurants, swimming pools, tennis courts and other amenities of a luxury resort. All of our readers, at one time or another, have received glorious reports of some movie, built up to such an extent that only disappointment could follow. This is basic accommodations, and I would not wish that visitors to the hotel be disappointed by expecting more then the hotel is.
