Stayed at the "Cairo Stars" Hotel. Excellent place for relaxing. My room was very clean. Had an A/C and a sat TV. Wi - Fi speed was awesome. All staff members from the cleaning person to the owner, Mr. Karim, were extremely cordial, courteous, and helpful day and night. Nobody was trying to "push" their tours on me, once they found out I didn't need any sightseeing. Even though I didn't need any tour during this visit, the prices they quoted were much better than those I've was literally tried to be "pressed" to buy at the Cairo International Airport (CAI), by street hustlers, and some other hotels.

I didn't have to remind the "Cairo Stars" Hotel staff about my breakfast umpteen times a day, and the breakfast was adequate: 2 jams, 2 mini - baguettes, and cream cheese (almost tastes like Philadelphia cream cheese or Laughing Cows. Their kitchen was always clean, TV (LCD), which was hung in the kitchen/common area was NOT ever blaring. Reception area was always clean. Despite the fact of "chainsmoking" in Cairo, didn't see too many of those congregating in the reception area or in the kitchen.

Definitely, would stay at "Cairo Stars" next time I would be in Egypt!

Absolutely, recommend it to everyone!

My wife and I have stayed in many hostels all over the world and this was by far the worst experience ever. As soon as we got there late at night and after being in transit for 12 hours, the owner and his little tour salesman were giving us a salespitch for overpriced tours before we got the keys to our room. The room was noisy and dirty (even for Egypt standards). Everything here cost 3 times more than anywhere else we stayed in Egypt. The owner was hitting on my wife when I wasn't around, this digusted her so much that after our 2 day trip to Bahariya she did not want to stay there even for just one night. If this wasn't our first time in Egypt or if we had a backup plan for somewhere else to stay when we first arrived, we would've walked out the door just as soon as we walked in.

We had originally signed up to stay at the Bedouin Hotel, but the driver provided to us by the hotel took us here - they said our room at the Bedouin was "being painted". Not sure what that was about. Cairo Stars turned out to be o.k for what was needed, but I'm sure a better place could be found for the price. Our room was very musty, but quiet. The staff will give you a sales pitch of day trips they offer upon arrival - we did one - the Giza pyramids and Memphis - if you're not interested just ask to skip it. The staff was generally helpful, and they have a computer available for use, though it's a bit slow.

the hostel is cheap and you get what you paid for. the rooms are alright, the standard is pretty good for egypt. some of the rooms have windows to the street corner, and if you've been to cairo before, you know that the traffic is extremely loud 24/7, so it can be hard to fall asleep. that has nothing to do with hostel though. it could have been nice, but the staff can be a bit annoying. you can ask them questions and they will always try to help you, yes, but like most people in cairo, they want to negociate with you and sell you stuff. when we arrived at 2 at night (!!) we had to sit down and book a tour. when we said we didnt want to book yet because we were tired of course, the owner didn't listen. in the end we booked a tour and then we were let into our room. if you wonder why they have such great ratings on hostelworld and all these pages, it is because they will ask you a day before you leave to write a review for them, WHILE they look over your shoulder. if you don't give them a perfect rating, they will start to argue with you.

The hotel is a very affordable place to stay and has exceptional resources for coordinating cheap sightseeing tours all over Egypt. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful.
