“since 1892 ......... really historical but ............”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2012

perfect location in talat harb st at centre of cairo at down town (it is shopping area )
about price it is reasonable me and my friend ordered 2 strawberry juice and 3 pieces of cake it cost us 50 LE about 8$
the juice is tasty and really fresh juice ..the cake is not woow as i was told but still good
there is variety of cakes and choclate
there are 2 sitting area one looks on the street and another inner area
there are many tourists and locals
w.c not clean
chairs and tables are very old also the floor in the sitting area seems not renewed ever since this place began at 1892 ( i dont know if they intended to do that to make you feel the history ..... may be )
for me service is not slow .. it takes 10 minutes to bring the order .. i think it is not slow as i stayed at this place more than 1 hour enjoyed every minute but the stuff never smile ......... mask face take the order bring the order bring bill take tips with no smile
there is wifi but when i asked for its password not given it ( seems that they put wi fi logo for decoration what damn )
if you know the history of this place you will be sad for this historical place to be in this condition
but to be a place to take a drink and cake while you are shopping it will be very good place even excellent

“Egypt Nostalgia”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2012

Very classic Egyptian coffee shop. Not what it used to be, but if you're in the nostalgic mood, please go there. The one in Talaat Harb square, right in the center of the city is the one to visit. Forget Adly or Heliopolis.. not worth the effort.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2012

Yes, Groppi's has lost its lustre and has faded considerably during the 32 years between my visits, but it's still Groppi's.
Two sections at present - the back section where you can smoke and the front section where the wonderful array of cakes are still there to tempt and delight are on display and you can choose a few to go with your tea.
This is what we did, and ordered bitter Egyptian coffees (ahwa) to go with them; then we sat and I contemplated days gone by..............
A sanctuaty still in the bustle and business of Talaat Harb!

“What a dissapointment”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2012

It's sad to see the downward spiral taking place in this once famed Cairo institution. The environment has deterirated, the vast racks of cakes, jams and other confectionary once associated with the cafe has reduced considerably to one meagre line of fridges containing cakes and chocolates. The menu of snacks and food on offer seems to have almost dissapeared. The staff seemed pleasant enough offereing a slow bur pleasant service.

The subterranean bathrooms were clean and well ventilated.
