worst hotel ive ever stayed in. Place was dirty, smelled like cat urine. Rooms were clod no working air conditioning, hotel had no blankets and took three nights for them to get blankets. We were part of a tour and other people on tour had the same problem. would not stay here ever.

We stayed at the El Tonsy Hotel in December 2011. The hotel is located near an intersection and bridge that connects to downtown Cairo. The hotel has basic decor and breakfast as well. However, it does have complimentary wireless internet located on the 18th floor (bar/dining area) of the hotel. The room was small and clean. The staff were friendly during our visit.

I would recommend this hotel for backpackers or 'frugal' guests. In addition, I would recommend asking for one of the larger rooms in the hotel if possible. Also keep in mind that at most hotels in the city may have signs in the hotel rooms asking guests to discard used toilet tissue in the wastebaskets so please keep that in mind. The hotel is located near a few restaurants within walking distance, in which a few stay open late.

Room Tip: *If possible, ask for one of the larger rooms (not sure if it's a price difference but it may be...

We stayed at this hotel on the first and last day of our tour in Egypt so the room was booked for us by the travel company.
When we arrived on the first day the staff were helpful, the room was clean and it was a decent size. The breakfast was quite nice and the view was great from the roof terrace. The only negative aspect was the noise coming from the main road outside was relentless so we didn't get much sleep.
A week later when we checked in for our last night in Egypt the room we were given was bigger than the last one and facing away from the main road so there was a lot less noise. However, the TV wasn't working, the lock on the bathroom door was broken and the shower was leaking.
We were dissapointed but we didn't ask to change rooms as we were due to leave early the nexxt morning anyway. We did mention the above points to Reception but they didn't really seem interested in the feedback which was a shame a we had quite a positive experience intially, but it seemed as if they weren't too bothered now that we were leaving anyway!

We stayed at the El Tonsy Hotel as part of our tour organised by Timeless Egypt Tours. The hotel is centrally located close to the Nile with great views of Cairo and - in the distance from the roof terrace - the Pyramids of Giza. The rooms are spacious with very comfortable beds and efficient air con, fridge and TV, and well appointed en suites. The food was good (especially the breakfast omelets) and we enjoyed relaxing on the terrace with a cool beer or fresh lemon juice at the end of a day's sightseeing. The staff were all friendly and made us feel very welcome. If you are looking for a reasonably priced place to stay in Cairo then look no further than the El Tonsy. We would also recommend tours of the city and Egypt organised by: http://www.timelessegypt.com/

Have just returned from Egypt where we stayed at the El Tonsy, both at the beginning and end of our trip. The two rooms which we had were both spacious, well furnished and comfortable. The air conditioning was also excellent, something that was appreciated as the temperatures during our stay were very very hot. The hotel is centrally located right by the Nile and within walking distance of the Cairo museum.
We ate in the hotel on 3 of the 4 nights of our stay and found the food tasty and along with the local Stella beer reasonably priced.
The hotel also has a wonderful rooftop terrace which overlooks and has views of the pyramids at Giza in the distance.
Would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a hotel in Cairo.

They say first impressions count! This is true I was greeted with a massive Egyptian welcome and then taken to my room. The rooms are roomy with amazing bathrooms. All you need in a hotel room!

Then I went to the top and could not believe the view. Nile to the left and the Great Pyramids of Giza to my right. With a Stella Beer in hand I sat and relaxed whilst taking in these amazing sights!

I would definitely recommend this hotel to any traveler looking for a friendly, clean and comfortable hotel in Egypt! :)
