“Great hotel and location, very hospitable staff”
Reviewed 4 April 2011

I stayed here 7 nights in December, 2010. The hotel staff was amazing, especially when I had to extend my stay for a few days due to a case of food poisoning from a nearby restaurant. The front desk and housekeeping staff were very hospitable, calling and coming by throughout the day to check on me.

Special thanks to Dr. Joseph from the associated clinic for stopping by both days with the perfect combination of IV fluids and antibiotics.

We stayed for six nights. Lots of staff and they were friendly and helpful. We ate in four of their restaurants and each was good. Internet was expensive at about $10 per hour if you purchased two hours at a time. There was a security check each tine you entered the hotel. The gardens were beautiful and you could also eat there.

I just returned from a 9 day stay in Cairo. I found the Marriott wonderful. The room was much larger than I expected and very clean. The bathroom was lovely and roomy as was the balcony. There is a lot of street noise in Cairo but when the balcony door was shut you couldn't hear a thing. My only complaint was the coverings to the sliding glass door leading to the balcony. They were rather sheer and there were no dark curtains. I don't sleep well in a room that isn't completely dark.

The Cairo Marriott is HUGE! There are several restaurants and lots of shops. I didn't do any shopping there (I went to Khan Al Khalili instead. Fantastic fun and shopping!) but the shops seemed to have everything. My room came with breakfast at Omar's every morning. It was a great little buffet. There was something for every culture complete with an egg to order/omelet station and a wonderful variety of pastries. The coffee was excellent as well. I also ate lunch in the garden one day which was lovely. It was the only time I had to hunt down a staff member during my stay. They were very busy so it took awhile to get my check. The food was great and the prices were hotel prices.

The staff was fantastic. Everyone was so friendly and there was always someone around to answer my questions. Housekeeping was amazing. No matter what time of day I left my room it was clean when I came back. On the day I had my pyramid tours the housekeeping guy knocked on the door and gave me an extra bottle of water. They give you a complimentary bottle of water each day.

My stay at the Cairo Marriott was wonderful. I would not hesitate going back!

The hotel is in a fantastic location, close to most places in downtown Cairo but still in a safe, pretty neighrbood. The rooms are clean, but nothing special. It is a shame that the hotel rooms and atmosphere are so bland, since the building has so much heritage.

The internet access is expensive and it is much better to go to Beano's which is right behind the hotel for inexpensive wifi access. Also the breakfast at Beano's is much nicer and better priced than the bakery at the hotel.

Stayed here for 3 nights before flying to Luxor to take an 8 day Nile cruise. Rooms were of high quality, hotel was in a great location to visit the Egyptian museum and easy to book a tour to Giza. But as usual, do not expect service to be attentive or even at basic western standards. Had to chase down waiters to not only order and get the bill but also to even get menus. Not a bad option for Cairo, but be prepared to go to the kitchen and cook your own food.

After having toured Aswan and Luxor, I flew in Cairo and arrived at Marriott Omar Khayyam. The hotel is located in Zamalek island in the middle of the Nile, a very middle-upper class neighborhood in the city. After all the streets peddlers and noisy days of typical tours in Cairo, this hotel offers me a very pleasant feeling of quietness and distance from the public. It is a hotel with all necessary amenities in the compound, if you want, you don't have to get out of the hotel. The room was big, with a balcony facing the garden. I got a room with twin beds. The toilet was clean, bed was comfortable with nice linens.

The hotel has a very nice swimming pool and gym, in the gym there is a very good instructor and masseur, you should really book his massage and post-excercise stretching, I saw the guy did the stretching on a client for 30 min. That was really incredible and highly recommended!!

I booked a tour by the hotel services to Pyramides. The day tour was quite expensive, which I thought it was worth paying because one will be spared from the hazzle with a street taxi. Well, as soon as I got on to the taxi, the driver in a very friendly manner told me that I have only paid to his company for using him and his car. But he as the driver is not paid at all from the amount I paid to the company, and thank all the good-hearted tourists who usually leave some hundreds of pound after the tour as tip, he could send his boys to a nice school. Haha, I got what he meant. But he was a friendly guy and gave me a lot of information about the Egyptian society, from which I could clearly foresee the anger against the ruling elite and Mubarak. He got my tip at the end. But you can just go out of the hotel and rent a taxi for the whole day for 200 pounds. (I paid 745 pounds for the day tour, excluding tip. The tip should be around 100-200 pound). The car was better than a normal taxi though, but not by 4 times better.

The hotel was like a paradise, separating me from the daily hazzle outside in the real world of Cairo. After having spent a week or two in the country, I start to like and enjoy this quiet and slightly remote paradise.

This is a very old famous hotel close to the city center. The hotel is very big. It is really very nice and traditionally decorated. You can enjoy the lobby and the other entrance floor (there are somehow 2 entrance floors) like a museum with all these paintings, sculptures and decorations. You can find many things in the hotel complex itself. There are many different restaurants with different concepts, a disco/bar where some evenings you can watch a belly-dance show, the OMar Khayyam Casino, fitness area with a swimming pools (open-air and open 24 hours whole year, the temparature is kept constant at 28 degrees celcius). The executive lounge is great at breakfast and dinner time but except for that it is really poor. They only serve soft drinks and some cookies and nothing else. Local alcoholic drinks are only served limited at dinner time (legal requirement) and no international alcoholic drinks are available. Food is traditional Egypt food and it is really secure. My husband gets sick of food most of the time but even he was fine with the food during our stay. The upper levels (also the executive lounge) has a great Nile view. The rooms are at Marriott standard and most of the rooms have good view as it is build in a kind of round architectural structure and the Nile can be seen from most of the rooms. Different tourist attractions in the city are really close but I would not say walking distance. It is better to take a taxi especially when it is hot and sticky. Moreover the way to the city is not really interesting.
