We stayed three nights at this beautiful property. The palace is beautiful, with lots of great bars and restaurants. We loved our room with a view of the Nile and garden/ pool area. The staff were lovely and helpful. Now is the time to visit Egypt! There are few tourists and the people are glad to have the few tourists that are willing to visit. We never felt unsafe or concerned.

It's important to mention that this hotel was built to house Empress Eugénie during the inauguration of the Suez Canal in the nineteenth Century. So it's a landmark in the history of Egypt.

I used to stay there every time I visited Cairo before the revolution. The best feature of this hotel is its good location. It is located on the island of Zamalek, an upper-class residential and diplomatic area with abundance of art galleries, coffee-shops, good restaurants and gardens at the Gizira Club opposite the hotel.

The rooms are spacious and clean but are becoming slightly worn with no fancy/luxurious details. Food is OK but nothing to write home about. One of the best restaurants is Torii, a Japanese restaurant with great food.

The best rooms are those in either of the two towers, above the ninth floor. Avoid those rooms facing the bridge in the Zamalek Tower. They are noisy.

I know it's a silly thing to complain about since in Egypt about 70% of the men smoke, but it's just one of those things. Perhaps it's time to change the carpets?

That said, the hotel was very nice. We didn't have a lot of time to explore the grounds, but what we saw was beautifully landscaped and designed.

The people at the front desk were polite, perfunctory, but nothing that wowed us.

It is a bit impossible to leave the hotel without being mobbed by taxis. Beware, many of them are not metered, or are metered and won't use their meters, and they will likely try to cheat you at the end.

We were able to walk from the hotel to most of the sites in Cairo (Tahrir Square, Egyptian Museum, Khan Al-Khalili, the Citadel), but it was a long walk (about 10miles at the end) and we were hassled constantly by many of the locals trying to earn "baksheesh" by giving us directions, following us around giving "useful" tips, etc, so I don't know that walking is the way to go.

This is truly one of the most beautiful hotels in terms of old architecture. The gardens are lovely, as this was an old palace years ago. I enjoyed the sheesha in the garden lounge area every night!. As you sit amongst arabian pillows and music, its a fantastic backdrop. Your server comes by with fresh coals, and egyptian tea as you enjoy the warm night air. Its so relaxing! I must say, the breakfast buffet was the best I have ever seen!! Every corner of the restaurant was exploding with fresh foods of many kinds. Hot and Cold. I couldnt make up my mind which corner to go to, or what the eat. This alone is worth staying here. The hotel is located in Zamalek which is close to everything. Including the best restaurants, and downtown sites like the museum. Its right on the nile, so you can easily take a quick nile boat ride in one of those decked out little boats with xmas lights all over them. Its quite an experience. This was my second trip to Egypt, and I can never get tired of this magical country with amazing history.

The Cairo Marriott is superb. We stayed there 3 nights, Nov 19 -22nd. Although there were protests in Tahir Square, you would never know it here.
The hotel is modern, staff is friendly and meals at the hotel great.
Don't miss this opportunity to go while crowds are down

I visited Eqypt 12 months ago and found this hotel very pleasant and comfortable. The staff were helpful and the restaurants quite good, particularly the Italian one! My only minor negative is the two rooms I occupied were a little tired but clean and tidy.

I'd certainly stay there again.

We stayed there for three nights in Oct 11. Had a river-facing king-size bedroom that had a great view down the Nile, but actually overlooked the main road bridge with all the chaos of Cairo traffic. Food is good if not exceptional, and expensive for Egypt, but there is lots of choice of restaurants. Service helpful; - arrnaged our tour to Memphis and Saqqara with no problem. Internet is expensive - why? when you get free internet at hotels costing half the price.

A tip - try dining one evening at the riverboat moored directly opposite to the hotel - they have different cuisines on each floor, but take the lift to the top deck, which is open-air (in good weather!) and enjoy brilliant Egyptian food, excellent service and follow it with a Sheeshah water pipe - really good value and a pleasant way to watch the evening boat traffic on the Nile
