“STAY AT EXECUTIVE LEVEL AND YOU WILL BE PAMPERED”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2012

Whenever I go to Cairo now, I stay at Marriott Zamalek and always chose EXECUTIVE rooms and thus I have a great breakfast and dinner in the Lounge. The butlers and the receptionists at this level are truly outstanding. After many visits, they know you and welcome you like home, one feels it has become a family. They truly pamper you and I need not go anywhere else. Chose Gezira tower and always use its entrance , you may check in and out in the executive lounge. Internet has become free of charge in the executive lounge.
It is worth a try!!

Room Tip: Depends on your choice of king bed, twin beds, connecting rooms or not. I personally prefer non con...

This is a huge hotel with all of the amenities that Americans expect. We had a very large room with a large balcony directly overlooking the Nile. Everything was clean and efficient. The TV had a larger choice of stations than we had encountered elsewhere. We had a good meal in the Saraya Passage and found that one can order from various menus regardless of where you sit. The food was fine, with live music. The breakfast buffet offered about everything one can expect. The gardens provide a nice place to stroll. The area is such that you can also walk to restaurants nearby, which we did. We went to Abou El Sid, which had been recommended by our guide for authentic meals (Kashari). The walk was not long and the food was good, plentiful and reasonably priced. This hotel is a good choice to escape a little from the frantic activity of Cairo.

Cairo is full of nice hotels, and tourism isn't exactly thriving right now, but you wouldn't know it by the way Marriott treats you. We were given the option of several hotels for our month working in Cairo. We chose this Marriott. Won't happen again, if I have anything to do with it.
The hotel is located in a great part of town, with lots of nice restaurants within walking distance. And the location around is relatively safe, with a lot of embassies scattered around.
As for the hotel, it was a disappointment. Nice rooftop theater: closed, with chairs scattered around the roof. Relaxing pool: closed the second day of our stay for maintenance & didn't reopen until our last day. Food & drink: overpriced & poor quality. In fact, DON'T eat in the hotel, with so many good quality, reasonable places nearby.
One of my biggest complaints with Marriott (and a couple other chains) is this idiotic need to charge for internet. COME ON! Even one-star hotels are providing free internet. For the rate you pay in these big hotels, Internet should be free! And don't tell me it will be free when I get "status". It isn't free, I paid for it during all those days I was earning your status points.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Nile.

I wish we were prepared for the chaos of Egypt, but then again nothing could have prepared us for it! This hotel was recommended by our agent and we are so glad we took her advice. We reallly enjoyed our stay here. They very kindly allowed us an early book in and there was three ladies travelling together so we were booked into interleading rooms which was fantastic.
Our guide in Cairo recommended we eat in the hotel which I was worried about as I wanted to experience genuine Eqyptian cuisine but we followed his instructions and again we were so pleased we did and the meal was fantastic and we felt safe as women travelling alone. The men in Egypt dont leave blonde women alone!!

Room Tip: A room overlooking the Nile river.

Massive hotel - @900 rooms. Central part is the original building with some extraordinary rooms (the ballroom and Princess Eugenies 'suite). Most room in two adjoining tower blocks.
Impeccable service and everyone working hard to be friendly. It is a very 'American business' establishment (Pizzas, steaks and hamburgers readily available). Not somewhere you would go for a quiet romantic hideaway. Prices for food in the numerous restaurants are high particularly when they then add 10% tax and 12% service charge -quality is good. Breakfast outstanding. Rooms are a bit bland but immaculately clean and comfortable beds with all the gizmos you would expect of a business hotel. Excellent pool and facilities (steam rooms will help you lose weight fast!). Weekends are busy as half of Cairo seems to come and sit in outside areas. Location ideal as island is interesting and easy to walk around - traffic less on smaller street compared to mainland. It is an oasis of some calm in another wise frenetic city.

Room Tip: Probably overlooking garden is quieter although some have view of garden and Nile.

We started our Egyptian holiday from checking in to this hotel. We were booked in for 4 nights and found the views over the Nile from our 19th floor were amazing, especially at night. The hotel was clean and our room was excellent. Suggest you pay a little extra for the upgrade. Hotel is centrally located and an excellent pizza restaurant is 5 minutes down the road. There are a number of restaurants located in the hotel grounds to choose from. Security is high priority and we very much felt safe. This was before the riots in January 2011. Sitting in the garden enjoying a cold drink on sunset is a must!

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on higher levels, better views and not so noisy.

I stayed in this hotel during one full week in February 2012. It is a marvellously located palace in the centre of the city on Zamalek Island on the Nile River with many shops and restaurants all around.
The positive points are:
- This palace has a strong history behind it. The central section of the hotel was once the Gezirah Palace built for the Khedive Isma'il Pasha in 1869. He asked the architects of that time to make it resemble another palace in France, Versailles, where Empress Eugénie used to stay. The purpose for that palace was to host the French Empress Eugénie who was invited along with her husband the French Emperor Napoleon the Third. The occasion of that invitation was the opening of the Suez Canal.
- Therefore, ceilings, walls, paintings and decoration are authentic and interesting to watch.
- The rooms are enough large. Beds and pillows are as many other Marriott hotels in the world very comfortable. We can touch that this hotel is “sweet dreams” oriented. Consequently I slept perfectly well.
- A large swimming pool (with hot water in winter) is available as well as a traditional fitness room + massage rooms.
- The staff welcomes you in smiling and is very helpful.

However there are few negative points that should be mentioned:
- Going from my room to the dining room took me a long time as there are long corridors to walk along them before to get my breakfast.
- On the TV, we can watch many Arabic TV channesl but very few other TV channels. It is not possible to watch any movie. In comparison, the Kempinsky Hotel where I stay 6 months ago and for the same price, offer a large range of TV Channels from different countries as well as a large spectrum of movies in many different languages! Improvement should be done at Morriott Zamalek!
- Another negative point is related to the presentation of the selling price to rent a room. For a standard single room I receive a proposal for 123 Euros per night breakfast included. In reality this price is wrong as it is added 12% for service charge + 10% for sales tax + 1% for city tax…Consequently the selling price is not 123 Euros but 154 Euros! It is a kind of scam to customer in lying to her/him. Perhaps it is American way of business? But it is not fair at all. Taxes should be included in the proposed total price.
- Moreover, another negative point is related to the Internet access. Marriott is still requesting to pay WIFI in your room (around 11 Euros per 24 hours)! All hotels where I staid in many countries proposed Internet to client free of charge.
