Situated on an island in the middle of the Nile River, this hotel has an excellent location.I learnt that the hotel building was in fact a 19th century palace. The hotel has a 5 star lobby, comfortable and excellent rooms,a great casino (one of the largest in Cairo).,swimming pool and most important very good cuisine, with a lot of varieties. The Marriott terrace restaurant adds to the charming stay here.

I stayed in this hotel for five weeks on a executive room, it’s a great place to be. The location is perfect right in the middle of Cairo with a good view of the Nile and the city. People working in the Marriott are good and they take care of your needs really well. There is good variety of restaurants to choose, I liked the Egyptian Nights restaurant. The executive lounge is good for breakfast and snacks. There are lots of shops and local restaurants outside the hotel, the gym and other facilities are exceptional too. This place deserves its five star rating, truly a palatial experience.

I stayed in Marriott because a friend recommended. So we were very confident and happy to find a good offer for a Executive Room through internet (in spite of the room rate did not include breakfast).
When we arrive we noticed that Cairo is a chaos. Took more than an hour to travel from the airport to the hotel, and then when we finally arrived we saw a big and beautiful hotel, with at least 10 types of restaurants. The people in the reception were not very nice, seems that they are very busy with all the amount of people there. Anyway they gave us our room and we had to walk a lot to get it.
The room was nothing special - I expected more from a Executive Room. Curtains and bed clothes were old, they need an urgent maintenance. Anyway there was air conditioning, and the bathroom was big and nice.
All the restaurants were beautifully decorated and the food was very very good - we always ate in the hotel. Specially I recommend the japanese restaurant. But you must notice that the price of the dishes that you see in the menu is not the final price. They add at the end a couple of taxes and tips that are more or less the 25% more! that was something very suprising.
The hotel is very complete, you can spend days without leave the hotel because it has everything inside. Also they provide the tours that everybody wants to take in Cairo. We took some of them and were very good quality.
The thing that really bothered me was the Business section: was small, and they charged a lot for internet that was not good quality and WiFi did not work.
Also something very important if you visit this hotel. Always put the sign "Do not disturb" in the door at night if you want to wake up late. We were woke up all nights at 8 am for the people that wanted to clean the room.
We liked Cairo and the hotel in a general way. I would recommend it. But somehow we left with the feeling that we were overcharged everywhere. Maybe is the price to pay for being in a turistic place like this.

Stayed at the Cairo Marriott for 2 nights prior and one night after our Nile cruise. Before entering the front gates of the hotel, there are bomb/drug sniffing dogs and a security check in the lobby with airport like measures which you need to pass thru every time you leave the main entrance/exit. We always felt very safe here.
The hotel is gorgeous (a former palace) in the best section of Cairo-Zamelak area. The rooms were large with great essential amenities-hair dryer, iron, refrig, safe, and gave us 2 complimentary bottled waters every day, which you definitely need. Always use the bottled water for everything including brushing your teeth; Beware of salads, ice cubes and fruits. There's a mini frig with all kinds of goodies in it, but the prices are outrageous. There are 2 banks in the lobby , open 24 hours which are very convenient for changing money. We were on a tour so our tours were included, but there's a concierge to help you with any thing you may need.
There are at least 6 restaurants here. We went to the JW Steakhouse which was excellent but expensive; Omer's cafe which had a fabulous breakfast buffet with anything you could possibly want, and the Promenade al fresco which had burgers, pizza, continental cuisine. There was also an Italian, Japanese, Arabic, and a bakery for food options.
We highly recommend this hotel and would go back in a minute. Also, one tip- DO NOT Rent a car in Cairo! Driving is hazardous to you health!
Happy to answer any questions.

This is one of the best 5 star hotel experience and 80% of the credit goes to its facilities...

- Gorgeous swimming pool with plenty of deck chairs
- Large garden with cafes/restaurants/sheesha
- 2 banks offering very good exchange rates for foreign travellers
- array of tour packages at reasonable price
- decent casino (their blackjack table has almost zero house edge)
- authentic belly dancing show
- overall it gives a resort feel with the palace and layout of hotel

Service was good in general, nothing short of what you'd expect from a 5 star hotel. Location was decent, a short taxi ride from downtown (10 EGP if you negotiate) and it's in a quiet / affluent neighbourhood. Room was big and comfortable, perhaps the shower could be a little be more powerful :P

What we didn't like:
- no free wifi/internet
- no supermarket/convenient stores near hotel
- someone would come in early in the morning for housekeeping / to check the mini bar

For less than USD200 a night, I think this is a real gem in the midst of all the chaos you will encounter in Cairo. Anyone visiting Cairo for leisure should really check out this hotel.

We just returned from a long weekend in Cairo, where we stayed at the Cairo Marriott. We treated ourselves and found at very good value for money and stayed in an executive suite in the Gezira Tower. The suite was quite spacious with a large living room, separate bedroom and the two balconies; we booked this through the Marriott website and looked at the special offers they had. The bathroom could have been bigger and with a suite this size an oversize tub and two sinks would have made it just about perfect. The double glazed balcony doors were great and made the suite very sound proof from all the traffic outside. One of the benefits from this suite was that we had complimentary breakfast, light dinner and hot and cold drinks in the lounge and a "Happy hour" with free local wine from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm every evening. This was something we enjoyed and by having such an all inclusive formula, we were very happy that we upgraded to this executive room. This staff in the executive lounge were very helpful and friendly and made our stay there most enjoyable. In the end, while the room may have cost more than a standard room, all the extras really made it worthwhile, particularly, since we did use these facilities.
Location was great, we walked 30 minutes to the Egyptian Museum and armed with a guide book, did it at our pace, rather than being zipped throught the 2- hour tour guide routine. We fully enjoyed it.
We had also checked out the program at the Cairo Opera House and were lucky enough to see a Bolshoi production of La Bayadere -- Carmen is playing in a few weeks and if you are lucky enough to be there at the time, the hotel concierge may be able to get tickets for you-- this is how we got our tickets.
