The country is obviously going through a rough time and this hotel is feeling the brunt of it. The rooms are very old and have not been maintained with worn out carpets and fittings. The front of house staff are not very friendly, but the service level staff are almost overly eager to earn tips by assisting. The pool area has been shut down. And a personal irritation that is more pertinent to the culture rather than the hotel itself it that people are allowed to smoke in the lobby which I find a bit disgusting.

Stayed here twice last week. The first stay we received an upgrade to the executive floor (26th). Room was generic and a little dated. Free bottled water in the room was a nice touch. The balcony had a nice view of the Nile and the Pyramids in the distance as well as Mubarak and co. burned out party building next to the Egyptian Museum. Security seemed OK with the usual metal detectors in the lobby and a dog to sniff incoming traffic. Breakfast buffet was the expected, nothing to write home about. Second stay was in a junior suite - again a little dated but spacious. No free water in this room. Staff was friendly. Location - although located near the Egyptian Museum and Tahrir square the hotel is separated by 10 lanes of Egyptian traffic - a bit like starring in Frogger to get there! The noise of all the chaos is impressive - if you are a light sleeper definitely bring ear plugs.

Room Tip: Ask for a Nile view. The higher the room, the less noise - aim for 26th floor or higher.

Dear Guest, Greetings from Ramses Hilton and thank you for sharing your review on TripAdvisor.

We have read your comment and we are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us.
Thank you very much for the nice comments on the location, the team performance. We are glad you enjoyed our breakfast.

However, as for your comment on the hotel condition, We would like to inform you that our planned Master plan renovation project has been delayed many times, due to the country situation which was not stable enough to get it done. However, this does not stop us from our regular maintenance schedule and small renovation projects.

We would like to apologize for the outside noise which is out of our hands.

We look forward to welcoming you back again to the hotel or any of our Hilton Hotels Worldwide.

I agree with the other reviewer - around the 100 dollar mark it is a good value proposition. Breakfast is good and there is a gym that is quite mediocre but ok. Across the road there is also a mini-mall with excellent lebanese food (except for the fatoush salad which sucked) at a really good price.

What really stands out at the Hilton is the exceptional service - really the staff there could not do enough - they all knew my name and were always trying to be of service. I think the most attentive experience I have ever had actually without being annoying at all.

Good location, right on the Nile, five minute walk to the Cairo Museum. As others have noted, you will have to cross some busy streets to get out of the hotel to the museum or walk the Corniche and may not be for the timid or faint of heart, but really no big deal for a semi-experienced traveller - just latch onto a local and they will help you cross!

I had a Nile view room on the 18th floor with a small balcony and could see the Pyramids in the distance. There was blaring music most of the afternoon until 2AM from the boats on the Nile. Take ear plugs!

The room was nicely appointed, but the bathroom was dated compared with the rest of the room, but acceptable. My room and all the hotel was very clean. There was no kettle or complimentary tea/coffee in the room which these days is very unusual. There’s a port for paid high speed and WiFi is available (free on Executive floors as part of the higher nightly rate. WiFi otherwise is quite expensive - 80 Egyptian pounds for 1 hour or 142 EP for 24 hours, it gets cheaper the more time you buy). Good selection of English TV channels including movies, CNN, SKY News, BBC Entertainment as well as a French,German and Italian stations.

The staff were very pleasant, friendly and eager to please. Reception was average/good, but housekeeping and food and beverage staff were very friendly and warm. Almost every staff person introduced themselves, pointing to their name tag. At meals I had several staff members from manager, team captain etc checking up on me. On my second morning a representative from Guest Services made rounds during breakfast and asked about the stay, even if we had any problems with walking around outside etc. Nice touch. Having said all that, I found the staff interaction almost obtrusive after a while. On my fourth day one of the housekeeping staff was cleaning my room when I returned from breakfast and was very pushy for me to write a review of how good he was, pointing to his name tag. This was the first interaction I had with this employee.

The health club is run separately and the staff were not quite as professional as the rest of the hotel.

Buffet breakfast (included in my rate) was wonderful. Enormous selection, replenished frequently and good temperature and as mentioned the staff were wonderful and particularly friendly and accommodating in the Terrace Restaurant, almost to the point of excess, but I can’t fault them for that.

If you can get a good rate (not too hard these days in Egypt - paid about $100 US and then accepted an upgrade offer to a nicer room and breakfast for $115) then the Ramses HIlton is good value and a pleasant stay - just bring ear plugs.

We got an executive room, so it was fairly decent for another $50. We basically ate at the lounge every night and had a few beers every time for free. This is good value since alcohol is expensive in Egypt. The waiters knew us by the 2nd night and were automatically serving us the beers. Ask for the free wifi. My laptop didn't have a LAN outlet and I had to use wifi, besides we had an android tablet too.
Beside the Nile. Walking distance to the Egyptian Museum and Tahrir Square, but on the safer side so there's less chance of encountering any protests.
Sami the concierge was knowledgeable, kind and helpful.

Room Tip: You may want to upgrade to an executive room. Get a Nile river and October 6 bridge view.

We stayed here twice in November 2012. I have stayed here several times since 1988.
First we got a small suite to the north east. It was great with some additional space and the room was clean and the TV set worked well. The plumbing was very noisy the first night, but thereafter it was quiet. We did not complain since it resolved itself.
When we came back a week later we asked for an upgrade to a Nile-view room, here you could faintly hear the noise of the street with some traffic and the party boats. I found it very charming and spent a lot of time on the balcony to really enjoy the active Cairo nightlife. Which is a lot less since the revolution. This room was also clean with all amenities working well.
The rooms are a bit dated as the whole hotel. The breakfast area is very fresh and there is an amazing selection; fortunately we stayed a total of four nights so I could try most of the food. From plain fresh fruits, over standard European and American fare to Lebanese and of course Egyptian specialities.
We also had shisha and cocktails in the lobby bar several nights, the cocktails could have been larger, but they were very tasty. It was usually fairly full, but the service was still ok and the shisha was excellent.
The location of the hotel is fantastic, just at the Nile with the Egyptian museum at walking distance if you are brave enough to throw yourself in to the traffic. And even when you are not, the Egyptians are friendly enough to tell you to cross the street together with them, in particular in the evenings. From our Nile-view room we could see the demonstrations at the Tahrir Square and we even walked by one night. It was amazing to feel the difference, from feeling absolutely at ease and then come up to the square and to feel the tension in the air. There was at no time any reason to feel unsafe at the Ramses Hilton even though it is close to the Tahrir Square.
The service at check in and check out was perfect as the safety control and the bellman.
I will stay here again in particular if I can get a good price, but there are better hotels in Cairo. If they manage to get the beds, the rooms and areas around those freshened up I will move up in rating.

Room Tip: The rooms to the Nile are a bit more noisy than the others but not more than that you can sleep well...

My second stay here, and again a very pleasant and friendly one. We chose an executive room which included free wifi and use of the lounge. Lovely breakfast and pool facilities. Would certainly stay here again as it is so central and near to the metro and everything one could want. To those who say it is noisy - of course it is if you keep the balcony window open - this is Cairo for heaven's sake! Don't be put off by miserable reviews ...

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor which overlooks both the Nile and Tahir square.
