I've been to Cairo a couple of times as I've frequented to/lived in the region in general. So far I have stayed prob. in a dozen of different hotels with different brands (InterContinental, Marriott, Hilton, Fairmont etc.) located in Cairo downtown, Heliopolis and New Cairo. Even if Ramses Hilton is the oldest property in terms of property & room condition among them, it still remains on the top of my list whenever I visit Cairo. Why?
Service: what could I say more, simply "excellent" in all fronts - front desk, concierge, bellhop, executive lounge desk & the lounge itself, swimming pool, housekeeping etc. ... then the same things could be said to a couple of other hotels that I stayed (e.g. JW Marriott Mirage, Renaissance Mirage, Conrad Cairo etc.) then what's different here? Truly personal and genuine hospitality from some staffs which feels to your heart. Simply feeling like a home. As a Gold member (soon-to-be Diamond member), personally executive lounge service, comfortability & food here are simply irresistible to me.
Value: ok, let's admit it's an "old" property, but an epitome of "excellent maintenance" of service and property. No wonder why it's still so popular among certain types of guests. When considering the property itself, the hotel might feel slightly expensive, but again i dare say service in general and food quality & quantity are still compatible with those from real 5-star hotels.
Sleep quality: No problem at all.
Cleanliness: Meticulous housekeeping service. Special thanks to Adil (? not sure of his name) who is in charge of executive floor (25th) for his vigorous efforts on housekeeping everyday.
Location: Oh my goodness, the view !! I stayed in rooms of two different directions on the 25th floor, and views from both rooms are simply wondrous. No hotels along the Nile river that I previously stayed (e.g. InterCon Semiramis, Marriott Zamalek, Conrad Cairo, Fairmont) can simply beat Ramses in terms of a breathtaking view over the Nile (both from high floor rooms and from particularly executive lounge balcony). A totally strategic & convenient location in central downtown of Cairo that other hotels can't compete.
Room: to be honest, bathroom (particularly bathtub for those who are fond of a long hot bath like me..) feels old, but room condition is fairly good and again quite well-maintained. Integrated greenish color (e.g. carpet, lamps, furniture) in room makes me feel enough comfortable and cozy, neither luxurious nor cheap.
Breakfast: In general I found that breakfasts served in both Hiltons (Conrad & Ramses) are very robust and substantial in terms of variety, quality and quantity compared other brand hotels. As for my breakfast experience in both Hiltons, dining hall atmosphere, types of food, decoration/presentation definitely feel much more modern and upscale in Conrad, but... personally I just prefer the types of food served in Ramses. My opinion might be a bit biased due to my East Asian taste/preference which prefer heavy breakfast with rice, fish and grilled eggplant etc. lol... HOWEVER I wish Ramses could provide "real" freshly squeezed orange juice and better quality of black coffee, please?
Executive Lounge Service and Lounge Hall: This is the sole and utmost reason why I still come back to Ramses over and over. My heartfelt thanks to all staffs whose names I can't remember due to my short memory (lol..) including Captain Mostafa, Captain Khaled and Waiter Hassan. In addition, both female staffs on exec. lounge desk are super helpful too with any concerns that I have.
One concern: it seems that this hotel/exec. lounge is quite popular among a lot of smoking-lovers from different Arab countries. As a non-smoking female, however, I wish Ramses somehow extends the space of lounge or spares a substantial amount of space for non-smokers like me... I'd love to spend lazy or working time in the lounge but at times it feels difficult with heavy smoking smell. Still I do love to lounge about reading papers & sipping all sorts of tea & coffee served in the quiet lounge, just after breakfast or just before going to bed, mm...
PS. My sincere respect to Sir. Bellman Manger (pic attached) who served the desk more than three decades (to be exact, 34 years as I am told) for his professionalism, hospitality and service in Ramses Hilton. :)
