“Just what i was looking for”

I think this hotel is brilliant, Just what I wanted. Great atmosphere of the hotels' charms. Staff are very friendly, the manager took time out to see us, and have a general chat, asking how things are. I have no complaints at all about this hotel, what I would say is when I go back to egypt, if I stay in Cairo I will be heading back to this hotel. Karl pilkington did not do this hotel any justice at all, One particular member of staff who had been there for 12 years, showed obvious pride in the hotel, took us to see the roof top garden, and made sure we had a good stay.

Room Tip: Ask the staff if you have any questions about transfers or excursions

Very charming hotel, there's no other word. Nothing here works fully well, the hot water takes 10 minutes to run, the muezzin shouts in your ears every morning at 5 am... but I loved it ! If you are looking for a convenient, comfortable modern hotel, just forget about it. But if you want to experience a time machine back into the 30's, please stay. The furnitures are lovely, the lift and the bar are unbelievable, and most of all (and this is quite rare in Cairo), people are so helpful and honest. No bad surprise either with the guide they recommanded us, in fact Mina was the best we've had in Egypt, in terms of knowledge about also attitude. Thanks to the staff of the Windsor hotel, we left Egypt with the feeling we had experienced something different, a privilege. For a few nights, the stay is worth the money, but make sure you can choose your room because the quality is quite different depending on which one they give you.

3.5 Stars

I love this hotel. It isn't fancy, and it's a little overpriced for providing fairly basic rooms. But if you're looking for modernity, then you shouldn't be here in the first place. This hotel oozes old world charm, and that's the reason to stay here. The elevator, operated by a hand crank, passes by a lovely old bar where you can almost imaging British officers smoking cigars with their sundowners. The nicer rooms have fantastic antique furniture and great sunlight and are huge. They even have an old style telephone system that is just fascinating. The hotel's location is very good . But the best thing about it is the extremely friendly staff there, all of whom became family for us.

A special shout-out for Mina, the guide recommended by the hotel for our Giza tour. He was simply fantastic - never intrusive or pushy, extremely knowledgeable and kind, and very pleasant. He was a real pleasure and you should definitely ask for him for your Cairo city tours if you stay at the Windsor.

I'm deducting a star because the hotel is a little environmentally unfriendly. You have to leave the water running for about 10 minutes on the top floors before it turns warm and then hot. It's charming in its own way to imagine the century old plumbing winding its way into your room but not with so much water wasted. Another half star deducted because the beds are not too comfortable, and though we were promised a double bed at the time of booking, it turned out they had no double beds available at all.

I should also point out that the mosque next door has a great wake up service at 5.00 am when the Muezzin calls - it feels like you have your very own Muezzin standing outside your window calling you to prayer. But then, I wouldn't want Cairo to be any other way!

....from the moment you arrive you feel an antique feeling in the air.
From the oldest elevator in Egypt, to the old posters on the walls and the art deco furniture in the rooms.
Stayed for 4 nights and my experience will be unforgettable.
a) the people in the reception are professional, polite, friendly and helpful.
b) basic breakfast with the very aromatic egyptian coffee (they add ground cardamon seeds). The omelets are simply ok.
c) the room was spacious, loved the old carved wooden shutters and the antique furniture. The bathroom could use some improvement immediately.
d) central location, just minutes away from interesting city sightseeings.
e) free wi-fi in the rooms and in the common ares.
f) well priced airport transfer (aller - retour) saved me from a lot of hassle.
g) the rooms are a bit pricy for what they offer but it's the best way to taste real (and old) Cairo.

Room Tip: room #16 is by far a trip back to the 20th century.

Stay for 3 nights. You get what you pay for. Hotel is a little run down but is clean and service is excellent. Samir Fayek organised our airport transfers and tours and did an awesome job, we had Mina as our tour guide and had an amazing time. Would highly recommend to stay here, any budget traveller will love staying here.

I visit Cairo regularly and stay in apartments. This time I had 4 days extended at the end of my business and wanted to be more central. Downtown in a great location for shopping so I took the recommendation by friends of The Windsor Hotel. It is shabby, it has seen better days,, but it is VERY clean. The newly refurbished bathroom was faultless and modern. (long wait for hot water, but it came, piping hot and 24 hours) Lots of towels and very helpful cleaning staff.
In fact all the staff were very nice and rarely for Egypt, not over the top. Owner and manger on site were a wealth of information and made a homely feel in the quaint bar/lounge/restaurant.
Free Wifi in the lounge was a bonus and surfing in a big sofa in colonial surroundings with great food and a cocktail was somehow surreal but wonderful.
I didnt use the services of hotel taxi, trips, etc, but they were offered without pressure and I felt confident they would be well organised and safe.
Cairo IS noisy, and dusty and alive. This hotel is very central and a street behind a very busy street, but I didnt find the noise invasive at all.
Food is always cheaper outside, but the convenience of eating onsite was a pleasant experience, not expensive and with farrr more charm than GAD or street food. ;-)
Great room, clean and private. En-suite. TV, Lovely balcony, ample space and fantastic service.
I would highly recommend The Windsor for its charm and friendliness, in a central, safe but budget stay in a wonderful city.

Room Tip: I had a 'front' room with a balcony, 4 floors up. I didnt find it noisy, I love the sound of...

This was (I think) my 5th time to the Grand Old Lady since the mid 80ies. And I have to say, I just LOVE everything about this hotel - even if the bar staff is getting markedly older, the kitchen is modest, and the whole place is in desperate need of a serious shine-up. The rooms, however, are clean and well-kept (with an abundance of towels and hot water) and the staff friendlier than ever. Samir and his comrades in the lobby can even arrange memorable trips as far away as Aswan at reasonable prices.

Summa summarum: Seriously worn-down place, but with an ambiance that beats all other hotels in the world that I know. And I know quite a few.
