We were absolutely delighted with this hotel. It is a budget hotel so we were not expecting a lot, but we were pleased with the rooms, the service and the food. After returning there from a few days in Luxor we were greeted as long-lost friends! The location could not be better - we were able to walk to the Egyptian museum, the Opera house and the city centre. Would definitely go back again.

Upon first review, the room seems to be ok based on the price you pay. The shower curtain is nasty. It has never been cleaned or changed. It's moldy with brown spots all over it. Really not something you want near your skin especially since the shower head is facing the curtain, making it difficult to avoid contact. The breakfast is ok but much more than continental breakfast. They will do eggs if you ask. You can walk to some sites and take the metro from a few blocks away.

We read the reviews both good and bad and decided to take a chance on the Concorde and were pleasently surprised. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was adequate with no shortage of food. The front desk staff spoke english and were friendly to us. IF this is going to be your first trip to Egypt and Cairo, the city, because of it's size ( 27 million) can be intimidating. It would be nice to have a contact in Cairo that would make your stay in Egypt the best that it can be. IF you are looking for someone like this, then when you leave the hotel turn left and walk past a few doors and look for the Rosetta Perfumes Palace & Papyrus Institute. If you don't see a couple of guys sitting in chairs on the sidewalk then go in and ask for Emad. Emad is an honest person and also provides tours to the Pyramids, City Tours, Nile Cruises and just about anything else that you would like to do in Egypt. Emad understands that word of mouth is the best advertisement. He offers private clean cars equipped with air conditioning with clean professional drivers that are adept in driving in Cairo. I would STRONGLY suggest that you do not attempt to drive anywhere in Egypt. He will most likely offer you tea (try it it's great even if you aren't a tea drinker) and get an idea of what you are looking for while staying in Egypt. Emad speaks excellent english and will do his best in a professional and courteous manner to make sure your stay is the best it can be. He understands unlike alot of egyptians that you have saved for a year or two to take this holiday and is not out for your last dime. He is a great person to know and will quickly become a friend and ally. Just tell him Brion and Alice from Canada recommended him.

I had no problems with the Concorde. It's location is within walking distance of the Museum and Talat Harb areas and you can get to the Nile Corniche very easily.

The rooms are basic, but clean and well serviced. Hot water in the shower was sporadic during peak periods but overall good.

The staff were extremely helpful in all areas,

As a budget traveller, if I return toCairo, I would probably stay in the Talat Harb area as I have done previously but this is a perfectly acceptable budget hotel.

Oh...and their laundry service is incredibly cheap, fast and efficient.

If you want to stay nearby downtown with a reasonable price, this could be the right hotel for you. It nears metro, downtown. From here, you can walk to Cairo Univeristy. Along the way, you can find the market and several stores for local residence where the eating and shopping are relatively cheap - not for tourist.

Also, there is a nearby store - called Rosetta, whose owner is Emad. He is a very friendly and warm person. He recommend me to several places for sighting seeing and shopping. I have compared the prices offered by him and othes, and I was convinced that his price is reasonable. His help gives me lots of convenience because I used the limited time to travel the most of the city with reasonable prices.

stayed in this hotel first week of october.

hotel: location is okay, but not possible to walk around the area like in more central hotels. service is good, the receptionists and porters are polite and will help you.

room: quite large and clean, sheets and soaps were replenished everyday. however room faces main road which is noisy with car horns etc until about 4am everynight.

miscellaneous: do not take any tours arranged from this hotel however cheap they are. we took one and it basically ruined our whole trip. the tour guides are just "drivers" not egyptologists and they have a vested interest in bringing you to this or that market so they get commission. they also bring you to dodgy persons who will try and intimidate you into a horse ride "around" the pyramids and sphinx which in real life will bring you about 1km away from the monuments.

overall, i wouldn't rule out staying in it again, but i will definitely not take any of their recommendations anymore!
