This was our second stay at this hotel. We were at the same hotel last year and therefor we decided to use it again this year - what a mistake!. There must have been a change in management since last year.
Check-in took over 3-hours - YES - A new record. Staff were very unfriendly. Service with a smile is defenitely not part of their motto. We were supposed to stay for a week but after two days our whole group decided to rather move to the Four Seasons. The rooms have a lovely view although not very clean. Towels, shampoo samples etc. of a low, cheap standard. Most of the staff struggled to speak and understand basic english. Staff always expected money when something was done e.g. bringing your laundry. The worst was when we asked the guy in the confrence room to bring us extra tables. He made it very clear that we have to give him money before that could happen. The staff was very open about expecting extra money for services rendered.

The first hotel that does not serve alchohol. At night you will find suspicious characters in the lobby - but we very later informed that it was part of the services rendered to the guests. We decided to move out as we would not liked to be associated with this hotel. Apparantly the owner decided not to sell liquor but he is willing to allow other un-holy things.

I can only wish the owner good luck with this hotel. Also a pitty that the HYATT group wants to be associated with such a low-class hotel.

AVOID this hotel!!!

We stayed at the Hyatt Cairo for 4 days; I thought the hotel was above average. The room was clean with fantastic view of the Nile River, the amentias were excellent the Gym and the swimming pool were great. The hotel has couple of issues, one of the main issue is you can’t enjoy a glass of win with your meal except in the revolving restaurant or lounge, there is no bar and the other restaurants don’t offer alcohol which I found very surprising giving it is a Hyatt. The other issue I found some of the hotel staff not very friendly and lack the Hyatt touch.

We spent 3 nites at the Grand Hyatt Cairo in October. Neither the service nor the rooms were up to expectations. Front desk took 45 minutes to check us into 2 rooms. Overall service? Best described as unenthusiastic. The rooms themselves were borderline shabby. Location not all that fantastic either. Not at all worth the price. NIce website though.

The only benefit of this hotel is the view. I would seriously consider Four Seasons right across from Hyatt if and when I return to Cairo.

I have never been to a Hyatt with such terrible service. I am in fact amazed at the high ratings given here!

There is a lot of standing around and so called security which seems to be the only aim of this hotel. A false sense of security! What about service? What about attentiveness? What about respecting the no smoking zones? What about better housekeeping? I could go on and on.

Oh yeah! As a none smoker you will certainly be suffering. I could smell smoke just about everywhere, even at the elevators!

The club room is a joke. The internet charges are crazy!

Oh elevators! I must have missed catching one at least a hundred times in my five day stay!

Save yourself the disappointment and stay at Four Seasons!

We stayed at the hotel as part of a tour package with Isram Tours. The check in was handled by the tour representative but we did not have to wait long for a room. The rooms are top quality and the view is beautiful. Too bad there is so much smog this time of year. Bummer. The breakfast buffet is wonderful. There are all types of food; even for picky eaters. Room was always clean. Had dinner at the Revolving Restaurant. The food was good. The attention wonderful and the view out of this world. Would recommend this hotel.

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights in October 2008, a 1 night stay before flying off to Aswan, and then another 3 nights a week later.
Check-in was handled by our 'fixer' so I can't say how well it went except to say it didn't take very long and we got great rooms. Our first room was on the 11th floor and had a nice view of the pool, but our longer stay the following week was on the 21st floor and the view was incredible. If the air had been cleaner the pyramids would have been a beautiful sight, but alas, the smog made them hard to see.

Our rooms were a nice size, clean, and the beds comfortable. Just as you would expect for a Hyatt or Sheraton or Marriott.

The restaurants we ate at were fine but nothing really to write home about. We had breakfast (included with the room) at the buffet every morning. Getting coffee and omelets was a little slow but the overall spread was great. We also ate at the La Dorada Seafood restaurant, excellent meal and service (we were the only couple there at 7:30 on a Monday night) and at the Nubian Village restaurant which was also excellent. We tried a Shisha, or Hubbly-Bubbly pipe, there and that was pretty fun.

Laundry service was reasonably priced, quick and easy. The pool looked fantastic but we never had the time to actually use it. We also never made it up to the revolving restaurant and lounge on the top floor, being too beat at night to want to dress up for what we had heard was a so-so dining experience.

The only 3 negatives?
1. The excessive security at the front entrance was, while understandable, rather annoying. Although this is true at EVERY hotel, and tourist attraction so really not the Hyatt's fault.
2. The recent banning of alcohol in the hotel was disappointing (they closed their English Pub altogether), but then again, it kept our bar bill really low. They did allow drinks in our room and from room service but we would have liked wine with our meals.
3. Our travel company had arranged for a late check-out (2:00pm) but they kicked us out at noon anyway claiming they needed the room. Our fixer had words with them, but after we'd already packed up and gotten ourselves down to the lobby.

If you can afford it, the Grand Hyatt is a wonderful place to stay. It's an oasis of clean and calm that is very welcome after a day touring chaotic Cairo.

We stayed in the Grand Hyatt for 2 nights (Sept 28th & 29th) and we thought it was a fabulous hotel. This was our first port of call on our honeymoon and it set the standard for our trip. The hotel is so decadent and the staff were very nice. The foyer is so exuberant and luxurious.
The rooms were very nice and spacious and we had a fabulous view over the Nile. The only thing we didn't like about the room was the balcony. Neither of us are great with heights and as we were on the 11th floor we just didn't feel safe on the balcony. We felt the balcony was a little on the small side.
The Revolving Restaurant was a great place to have our first meal. You get to see a lot of Cairo from there. The food and the service was top class.
The only negative part of our stay in the Grand Hyatt was the ban on alcohol. We were able to enjoy some bubbly with our meal but the fact you can only get alcohol on the 41st and 43rd floors was a little disappointing. We knew it was Ramadan but I think the Grand Hyatt needs to rethink their strategy and serve alcohol just like the rest of the bigger chain hotels in Cairo. I heard since that the hotel has lost it's 5* rating because of their ban on alcohol year round. If the 'no alcohol' policy doesn't bother you this really is a gorgeous hotel to stay and take in the sites of Cairo.
