“Great view of the Cairo skyline”
Reviewed 14 June 2012

A beautiful fortress with spectacular views of the Cairo city scape. In June 2012, the Citadel (along with most other tourist sites), was almost eerily devoid of visitors--sad for the vendors who depend on the tourist trade for a livelihood. Media hype about political unrest has frightened the guests away. But I can attest from first-hand experience that Cairo is as safe and visitor-friendly as ever.

“Catch your breath”
Reviewed 29 May 2012

If the crowds and hustle and bustle of Cairo is starting to get to you, a couple of hours here high up over the city will renew you. Pleasant with a nice view of Cairo.

“Must see - must see!”
Reviewed 17 May 2012

A great "hidden" gem - one of the places that tourists don't often get to go to because there is so much more to see. But the views from the Citadel are amazing and the mosque is mind-blowing. Take half a day and just wander around looking down on the city and through the mosque. Also, take some snacks as there isn't much in the way of restaurants there (there is one or two, but not a lot of choice).

“Beautiful Architecture.. marvelous location”
Reviewed 17 May 2012

Al-Qalaa is located atop of hill with a great view of one side of Cairo. Well spread location, one needs to be walking a lot to cover the whole place. Beautiful architecture
