“AMAZING and incredibly underrated”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

This is an spectacular site. It isn't as famous or popular as Giza, but shares the historical relevance and poignancy with more intimacy. The doomed story of the failed pyramid nearby and the beautiful architecture of this older pyramid makes the trip worthwhile. When I went we actually had the whole place to ourselves, so we could enjoy the pyramid from a very creepy yet awesome point of view. This is one of my favourite spots in Egypt. If you are after the scenery and the history, this is a must next to Giza. If not, Giza has better angles.

“Interesting site”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014 via mobile

The touts at this site were quite persistent but this is to be expected if you are the only visitors there. It is a must see to get a sense of how the building of the pyramids developed. Some of it was under scaffolding when we visited. This site has more than just a pyramid and is interesting to explore.

“June 2014”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

Went to saqqara on Monday 23rd June.
A very hot summer day. Impressed by the vastness of the site and the lack of any other cars or tourists around.
The step pyramid is being conserved and was at least 50% covered by wooden scaffolding. There is evidence of other less majestic burial sites, some just small clumps of rocks.
Was taken to a viewing hole in the pyramid where one can see the engraved head of the deity.Wanted to see the physicians pyramid on this site but it was closed to the public. No entrance to any of the pyramids on this site due to conservation work.
