Unique and separate from its Giza cousins, this Pyramid is every bit as significant with its vast grounds, plaza and site placement relevant to the evolution of the Egyptian tomb and temples.

this pyramid which can be seen from the pyramids of the giza plateau, lies approx. 7 kilometers
from the great pyramid and can be reached by a short drive in either a car or taxi. you enter the
area and can go within 50 metres of the step pyramid, which is a wonderful sight, the entrance
is on the iside facing giza, there are 3 tombs you can visit, the stepped pyramid and 2 tombs of
nobles, I find the nobles tombs are the most interesting, the paintings on the walls are in excellant condition, and picture the life of hunters with waterfowl also the life of peasants in their labours. next to the bent pyramid is the funeral complex and the mortuary temples. there is a lot
to see on this sight at least three hours needed to get around this complex. on departure at the
car park you can see the bent pyramid, about 3 kilometers further south. a wonderful day out.

This site is not as well known as Giza but this is where pyramid building all started! It was hot and there's little shade but it's so worth really taking the time to walk up to the pyramid and see the murals and tombs. There are other dig sites around it so I imagine in its day - it was an amazing place! Our guide provided some amazing historical facts that makes this place very special.

This is a very, very old and imposing structure. Do not just think of it as a tryout for the well-know trio of pyramids. It is quite impressive and fascinating in its own right. From the extensive surrounding buildings came must of the style that we associate with Egyptian art and construction. Somehow I found this gorgeous, somewhat melancholy, impressive place spoke of empire and power in a way that the better known pyramids did not.

I did the compulsory Pyramid tour and this area was awesome. Few tourists and spectacular sites. The tombs with murals and even some painted were unbelievable. Could have actually spent a few hours here checking out the murals and such if it was not so darn hot.
