Owner description: After the Muslims conquered Egypt in 641 AD, they built their city, Al-Fustat, on what is now the southern border of modern Cairo. Today, this section of the city contains many important sites including the Mosque of Sultan Hassan, Mosque of al-Azhar and the Khan al-Khalili market, which is considered the heart of this area.

It's so beautiful, it is really a must do in Cairo, close to Khan el Khalili market.
Don't forget your camera!

“A glimpse of the ancient arab world”
Reviewed 12 March 2014

I won't lie ... the place is a "beautiful mess". Busy roads, bikes, lots of people, vendors and even political propaganda ... but also remains of wonderful architecture, centuries of history, 24 hours shops and a closer touch of arab culture.
I suppose it depends on your preferences, but I personally loved it!

“Love this place ...”
Reviewed 5 March 2014

A walk through the old Aslamic quarter is really stepping back in time with the Byzantine architecture from the ottoman period ... great place ... walked from one gate to the other (north and south) .... the gates themselves are amazing.

Just take care of black market sellers they can fool you, it's better to take a local trusted person with you to avoid over priced stuff
