Owner description: After the Muslims conquered Egypt in 641 AD, they built their city, Al-Fustat, on what is now the southern border of modern Cairo. Today, this section of the city contains many important sites including the Mosque of Sultan Hassan, Mosque of al-Azhar and the Khan al-Khalili market, which is considered the heart of this area.

“Tremendously chaotic, but you'll like it.”
Reviewed 5 April 2014

The city of Cairo, I believe that there isn't an Arab city in the world comparable to the Egyptian capital. A city tremendously chaotic and unbounded a megalopolis almost impossible to see without the help of a guide or the help of a taxi driver .
The heat, the traffic and bustle, the long and exhausting queues in the car.
A very messy city, but fascinating some lovely places and other areas that seem to have been recently bombarded.
I have to admit, it was a unique experience , I could not enjoy it 100% because the internal crisis and the problems of recent months have destabilized much this fantastic city, you will not see tourists around the city and the locals will look at you as if you arrived from another planet .
In any case, I'm sure one day I'll be back here, I personally love the city and Islamic Cairo is absolutely one of the finest .

“As the only western tourist wandering about I felt safe, dazzled, welcomed.”
Reviewed 2 April 2014 via mobile

Without an arrogant demeanor but with humility it was easy to make acquaintances as I wandered not in the souq shops but alleys and historical places. Egyptians are so friendly and want to understand you a little so give them a bit of your time. But disassociate from the sellers quickly for a more authentic experience.

It's so beautiful, it is really a must do in Cairo, close to Khan el Khalili market.

“A glimpse of the ancient arab world”
Reviewed 12 March 2014

I won't lie ... the place is a "beautiful mess". Busy roads, bikes, lots of people, vendors and even political propaganda ... but also remains of wonderful architecture, centuries of history, 24 hours shops and a closer touch of arab culture.
I suppose it depends on your preferences, but I personally loved it!
