It was great to see the demo on how papyrus is actually made with the inner pith of the plant while the outer covering can be used for other articles. Lovely reproductions on display of paintings in vibrant colors ranging from historical to religious themes. Hard to select. But one can manage to get a good deal if one shows interest to buy at least one. I selected the scene of the Flight into Egypt which cost USD 68 and was given a smaller Egyptian court scene (USD 15) which I actually wanted to purchase, as a bonus together with a bookmark (which unfortunately got stolen??). All nicely packaged together with a certificate of purchase. Worth a visit, if only to see. The down side is the hard selling tactics of the staff which can intimidate you a bit.

It's one thing to hear that papyrus was the first paper. However, it's fascinating to actually see how it's made, and to see people making it an writing on it. Only downside is that once in the building several sales people descend on you to try to sell their goods.

A short demonstration of the process of preparing papyrus, you have time to enjoy the lovely, framed paintings which were displayed. The colours are vibrant, and the selection was outstanding.

It was interesting to see the process for making the Papyrus paper, and some of the beautiful art work on them. Be prepared to be encouraged to buy something. Good history information.

Went to Egypt in February 2013 including Cairo for 5 nights. Yes I found some of the paintings very beautiful but also a lot of tourist specific and not that good - take your time to pick something if you want to buy - if not just look and leave it can be pretty boring if your not that interested. At least its guaranteed real papyrus here. If you want something to remember Egypt by in a papyrus painting - buy it here. A lot of places in Cairo and other areas sell you fake papyrus (generally banana leaves).

Oh yes I agree with another travellers comment - don't go to the toilet in here if you can avoid it. The owners of this place really need to lift their game in respect of facilities for visitors. Not everyone likes dirty smelly toilets with no handwash or toilet paper.
