“a very pleasant stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2010

I had booked at Victoria Hotel, which is owned by the same people, but when I arrived at Victoria, they told me there was no availability there, and they had changed my reservation for the Capsis Hotel, in the same area. I knew this could happen, I was aware of this fact before booking at Victoria, so I was not suprised.

We moved to Capsis Palace, one corner further. This hotel was a little smaller, and with no internet access, but what a pleasant service ! The receptionists were all very helpful for details. If we wanted to go somewhere and asked for a taxi, they took time to give instructions to the taxi driver, because often, in Egypt, taxi drivers only speak a very little English.
Breakfast was included and was okay. (boiled eggs, tea, toasts with cheese and Jam, orange juice).
Our return flight was very late at night, so we asked for a late check up, and it costed us very few to keep our room until midnight. The hotel offered airport drop for a very good price as well.

The location of the Capsis Palace is excellent. A lot of taxis are available in front of the hotel, it's not far from very good shopping spots, and internet access is available in the neigbhorhood.
There is a bar in the hotel and they allow us to drink in the lobby, which is more comfortable than the bar itself.
The hotel is clean and comfortable.

I recommend it. It's an exellent value for your money in Cairo. :o)

The Capsis Hotel is centrally located in Downtown cairo which is great for getting around but ca be noisy! We stayed there as part of Intrepid tour and also at the end of the tour. We paid about US$30 for a twin room with breakfast per night. The hotel is very much a 3 to 3 1/2 star hotel anywhere in the world which means in my opinion it was of prety reasonable standard: comfortable beds, good bathrooms, great location, good staff, and a bar for a nice refreshing Stella beer or wine at the end of the day! Believe me, bars in Cairo are few and far between! I would recommend the Capsis to anyone visiting Cairo - even fussier travellers.

We checked in at the Capsis after a whirlwind 8-day Intrepid tour. Our tour was wonderful, but we were spent by the end, and this hotel was so welcoming! Spotless, cool, polite, organized, calm...everything we were looking for. Breakfast is on one of the top floors in a clean, cool dining room. The staff helped us arrange a daylong tour to local sights, as well as a middle-of-the-night ride to the airport. Very convenient location, one block from a metro stop. Not a luxurious place, but excellent nonetheless.

First stay was as departure point for Intrepid tour, then stayed another 4 nights following the tour. My room was a double, plainly furnished but very clean and comfortable. the traffic noise....well....the noise is HUGE anywhere in Cairo!, and it was Ramadan, there is a mosque just next door or just down the lane, I am sure....and....get plenty of walking in during the day and you should sleep through the close, loud (melodic) call to pray. Brekky pleasant but over the eggs by now.. A good place to stay, affordable, nice staff, good walking distance to museum, river etc; taxis great, listen to advice on how to pay etc taxis; did not use subway. I had egt pounds left & generously tipped housemaid, she did a great job. Being female on own, be aware of walking at night; perhaps there is closer internet now;.Turn left out Capsis front door, left first corner, good shop on left at next corner, 'note- hundreds of silver bottle caps pressed into the road surface; across road at petrol station store is a ATM and a decent latte (heaven!), a reasonable falafal shop back across the road again(0nly got sick once!)...Mcdonalds way down this main road....wow same food...cairo, japan, australia and arabic instore music and patrons in wonderful lime, lemon, pink headscarves.

We stayed here twice on our trip to Egypt - once as part of an Intrepid group and then later on our return before departing Cairo. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was large and had been freshly painted. The bathroom was also a generous size, with consistently hot showers and nice big towels. The hotel is conveniently located near Ramses train station and the downtown area - consequently there is a lot of street noise, but I'm not sure if this an be avoided in Cairo ! Breakfast is included in the price, but unfortunately an attempt at a continental breakfast for tourists doesn't work. My tip would be to stick to the boiled eggs, pita and tea.

My husband and I stayed at Capsis Hotel which is centrally located in Cairo (near Rameses Square or 10 minutes walk from the main train sattion) which at around USD28 (rate 1US=5LE) per twin room/per night (bathroom ensuite and including breakfast), is a bargain. The hotel is clean and spacious and we even have our own balcony. The traffic noise is the only thing we think that other guests may complain... but with the hotel being centrally located with easy metro access to the main Cairo sights (ie Egyptian museum, Coptic Cairo) including abundant food stalls, restaurant and shops within walking distance, we were very happy with the hotel. We even booked a private car from the hotel for a whole day with a driver who serves as our tour guide for around USD40 (excluding entrance fees) to take us around further places (ie Giza, Saqqarah, Memphis, Citadel, Islamic Cairo, Khan Khalili). The driver/tour guide's email is amr_king_2000@hotmail.com who works with Capsis Hotel, if anyone would like to make a booking with the hotel. Advise him though to take you to the front (short walk) entrance of Giza, pyramids instead of the back entrance which is through the desert, if you do not fancy a camel/horse ride to get into the Giza, pyramids. For us, the camel/horse ride from the back entrance to the pyramids (through the desert) was one of the highlights of our trip as we enjoyed this very much. Haggle with the camel/horse owner as we were able to get a 2-hour camel (for me) and horse (for my hubby) panoramic desert ride for around USD30 each.

  • Liked — value for money, clean, friendly staff, central location with easy access to metro, nearby eateries, restaurants and shops
  • Disliked — we think these will be the same to all centrally located hotels, the traffic noise in the street and the smell of cigarette smoke in the lobby
